As the name suggests, at Bus Hostel Reykjavík we're conveniently placed – right above the main terminus! It's not only our location that's awesome: our outdoor terrace has a barbecue, great for mingling during the summer months, and our indoor common areas are warm and cosy – ideal for the chilly Icelandic winters. Hang out in our on-site Buzz Bar and get chatting to fellow travellers over a beer – we always have four local ones on tap.

We're in the Hlíðar neighbourhood, right above the Reykjavík Terminal bus station. Bus 55 will get you from the airport straight to our door in just over 90 minutes, and buses leave from right downstairs to locations all across the country. We're just 15 minutes' walk from the city centre, where you can explore attractions like the iconic Hallgrímkirkja Church, the super-hip restaurants of Hlemmur Mathöll and glitzy Laugavegur shopping street. A 24-hour SmartBus also connects us to the city centre.

Rooms and Dorms

We have mixed and female-only dorms, each with personal lockers and free Wi-Fi. If you need more privacy for you and your travel companions, you can check into one of our private rooms – we've got singles, twins and doubles. Bed linen is included with all of our room types, and all share bathrooms with hot showers. Forgot to pack a towel? You can hire one from reception.

Extras and activities

Here for the adventure? Hire a bicycle from reception and head into town the fast – and easy – way. Or head downstairs and hop on a coach to destinations like the famous Blue Lagoon. We've got free parking too so you'll have somewhere safe to leave your car if you're planning on driving the iconic Ring Road. If you'd rather a day of good food and good conversation, make yourself a meal in one of our communal kitchens.

The hostel is great in all areas, except location. It's about a 20 minute walk outside the main city center, which in the summer probably isnt a problem. But I went in January, and the walk is extremely cold and windy, and on some days physically impossible The 1 benefit of the hostel's location is that it simultaneously acts as a Bus Terminal(hence the name Bus Hostel), so a lot of bus tours and shuttles leave directly from the hostel

The hostel is welcoming and the rooms are clean and big enough to chill. You meet a whole lot of people from around the world and this is what makes this hostel amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Very good location, that is a 15-20 minutes walk to the city centre and some bars. Otherwise, I highly recommend this place for solo travellers and people looking forward to have a chilled and relaxed experience in Iceland.

Great value for money, staff are great, very handy to have free parking with about 20 min walk into downtown Reykjavik. Bathrooms were very clean, but bedroom and bed linen were not, they could do with a deep clean.

Great hostel and the staff were friendly and very helpful when my flight was cancelled, one of the private twin rooms was in a little disrepair but besides that and the towels not being very clean it was good value for the money. I met some great people here and the communal areas are really nice, especially the kitchen! Just be prepared to walk for 20 minutes to get to the city centre from the hostel.

Good location as the Airport Direct bus drops you straight here from Keflavik Airport. 15-20 minutes walk to city centre. Reception staff seem like they are part of a call centre and are always busy. Kitchen is always left dirty and is quite small. Shower and bathroom is quite large and private. Beds are very clean. The idea of being in a 16 bed dorm sounds bad and it is.

This was an okay hostel. It has a no shoe policy, so make sure to bring indoor slippers. I was missing a chill place to hangout with the other hostelguests. The location was decent. No restaurants, cafés or supermarkets nearby. But only a 20min walk into town.

The hostel has a great location. You can reach the centre of the city on foot in about 15 min and you have lots of buses right there on the spot. The staff is nice and it's got everything you need as a treveller. However, it's not clean. The bathrooms were dirty and had mud on the floor (all of them). The kitchen was also really dirty. And im pretty sure the bed sheets got bed bugs, since i've been bitten a lot both two times I stayed there and I know there are no mosquitos in Iceland...
