Property Description

This lively and modern hostel is located in the downtown residential neighborhood of Hlíðar, the iconic Hallgrímkirkja Church, the super hip restaurants of Hlemmur Mathöll, the glitzy Laugavegur shopping street and all the trappings of the city center are also within a 15 min walk from Bus Hostel.

Conveniently Bus Hostel shares its location with Reykjavik Bus Terminal. That means that all airport transfers from Keflavík International both end and start here, saving you a bunch of time and some money. All transfers to the Blue Lagoon Spa and all the tours from Reykjavík Sightseeing also depart from our location, making Bus Hostel the ideal base camp for all the must do tours and adventures in Iceland.

Finally the SmartBus transportation system stops at the hostel and drives to all the the bus stops in the city 24/7.

The on site Buzz Bar (pun intended) always has 4 local beers on tap, shows the “important” sports events and is a great place to sit down with fellow travelers, meet new people and get local travel advice from our staff. Any travel service offered in Iceland is bookable at the bar and reception.

Lodging is offered in simple mixed and female-only dorms, as well as private rooms. All have free Wi-Fi and lockers; linens is included. All share bathrooms with showers. The hostel has a 24/7 lobby and check in with a communal kitchen and a guest lounge. Bike rentals are available, and parking is free.

Simply put, Bus Hostel is the ideal base camp for exploring Reykjavík and Iceland. View House Rules

Overview

As the name suggests, at Bus Hostel Reykjavík we're conveniently placed – right above the main terminus! It's not only our location that's awesome: our outdoor terrace has a barbecue, great for mingling during the summer months, and our indoor common areas are warm and cosy – ideal for the chilly Icelandic winters. Hang out in our on-site Buzz Bar and get chatting to fellow travellers over a beer – we always have four local ones on tap.

Location

We're in the Hlíðar neighbourhood, right above the Reykjavík Terminal bus station. Bus 55 will get you from the airport straight to our door in just over 90 minutes, and buses leave from right downstairs to locations all across the country. We're just 15 minutes' walk from the city centre, where you can explore attractions like the iconic Hallgrímkirkja Church, the super-hip restaurants of Hlemmur Mathöll and glitzy Laugavegur shopping street. A 24-hour SmartBus also connects us to the city centre.

Rooms and Dorms

We have mixed and female-only dorms, each with personal lockers and free Wi-Fi. If you need more privacy for you and your travel companions, you can check into one of our private rooms – we've got singles, twins and doubles. Bed linen is included with all of our room types, and all share bathrooms with hot showers. Forgot to pack a towel? You can hire one from reception.

Extras and activities

Here for the adventure? Hire a bicycle from reception and head into town the fast – and easy – way. Or head downstairs and hop on a coach to destinations like the famous Blue Lagoon. We've got free parking too so you'll have somewhere safe to leave your car if you're planning on driving the iconic Ring Road. If you'd rather a day of good food and good conversation, make yourself a meal in one of our communal kitchens.

Great place. Staff were wonderful. Room was warm and comfortable. Great kitchen and bathrooms. Friendly guests. The walk to the centre wasn’t too far and was very picturesque. Convenient to be at the bus station. Would stay again!

Lovely staff and happy hour, well stocked kitchen, location a bit out of the way in winter ice but fine for summer. The only reason they didnt get a higher rating for security was that they mistakenly gave someone a key to our private room and we got a confused visitor in the night.

Great value for money, staff are great, very handy to have free parking with about 20 min walk into downtown Reykjavik. Bathrooms were very clean, but bedroom and bed linen were not, they could do with a deep clean.

Convenient location if you need to catch a bus from there, but not if you are trying to explore the city and be close to the center. The staff is super friendly and the showers are great!

    Very Good

While this hostel is a 20 min walk from the main things in Reykjavik, the location is great because certain airport shuttles and tour companies will pick you up here at no extra charge! That being said, the bedding and bathrooms didn’t feel that clean. Also, during my stay, the power in my room went out for like 24 hours before it was fixed. It is a good budget option, but it definitely isn’t the nicest hostel I’ve stayed in.

This was an okay hostel. It has a no shoe policy, so make sure to bring indoor slippers. I was missing a chill place to hangout with the other hostelguests. The location was decent. No restaurants, cafés or supermarkets nearby. But only a 20min walk into town.

This hostel is pretty close to the center (only 20-30 minute walk to most things), but the weather while I was there (mid march) was slushy and cold. The sidewalks to get from the hostel to the city were not shoveled and difficult to walk on. Obviously not the fault of the hostel, but if you come during winter/spring, make sure to keep this in mind or maybe bring some high-traction boots. All in all, this hostel was fine for the cost.

    Good

The hostel has a great location. You can reach the centre of the city on foot in about 15 min and you have lots of buses right there on the spot. The staff is nice and it's got everything you need as a treveller. However, it's not clean. The bathrooms were dirty and had mud on the floor (all of them). The kitchen was also really dirty. And im pretty sure the bed sheets got bed bugs, since i've been bitten a lot both two times I stayed there and I know there are no mosquitos in Iceland...
