Overview

As the name suggests, at Bus Hostel Reykjavík we're conveniently placed – right above the main terminus! It's not only our location that's awesome: our outdoor terrace has a barbecue, great for mingling during the summer months, and our indoor common areas are warm and cosy – ideal for the chilly Icelandic winters. Hang out in our on-site Buzz Bar and get chatting to fellow travellers over a beer – we always have four local ones on tap.

Location

We're in the Hlíðar neighbourhood, right above the Reykjavík Terminal bus station. Bus 55 will get you from the airport straight to our door in just over 90 minutes, and buses leave from right downstairs to locations all across the country. We're just 15 minutes' walk from the city centre, where you can explore attractions like the iconic Hallgrímkirkja Church, the super-hip restaurants of Hlemmur Mathöll and glitzy Laugavegur shopping street. A 24-hour SmartBus also connects us to the city centre.

Rooms and Dorms

We have mixed and female-only dorms, each with personal lockers and free Wi-Fi. If you need more privacy for you and your travel companions, you can check into one of our private rooms – we've got singles, twins and doubles. Bed linen is included with all of our room types, and all share bathrooms with hot showers. Forgot to pack a towel? You can hire one from reception.

Extras and activities

Here for the adventure? Hire a bicycle from reception and head into town the fast – and easy – way. Or head downstairs and hop on a coach to destinations like the famous Blue Lagoon. We've got free parking too so you'll have somewhere safe to leave your car if you're planning on driving the iconic Ring Road. If you'd rather a day of good food and good conversation, make yourself a meal in one of our communal kitchens.

Clean hostel, great stuff, very safe, attracts a decent crowd. A bit of a hike from any action in Reykjavík, but overall good deal for the price.

Nice clean hostel located above a bus depot (hence the name) although don’t let you put you off. It doesn’t get too busy so very little noise comes from the station. Beds very big and comfortable. Rooms good size with large lockers and lots of plug sockets. Only downside is the toilets/showers are combined in individual rooms (nice for privacy) but there aren’t many of them so often long queues. Bit frustrating when you need the toilet and have to wait for someone to finish showering.

I enjoyed my stay with Bus Hostel!! It's about a 25-30minute walk to the main attractions but its quite easy. Rooms were warm but not uncomfortable. Kitchen is available on the second floor. Like many hostels, they have a shoes-off policy in the dorm. Overall, a great place to stay for one night.

It’s easy to get most places in Reykjavik from the hostel, it’s a tiny city! We stayed just one night, I wouldn’t want to stay much longer because the city doesn’t have that much going on anyway. We found that there wasn’t a communal space upstairs other than the kitchen. The kitchen was small for the amount of people who wanted to use it so we had to wait to cook food. The dorms were clean. Good price for a hostel as everywhere is very expensive in Iceland. Staff were lovely and helpful

I think they need to do a deep cleaning like once a month to get the whole room clean staff was friendly and having the bus station run right from the hostel is actually a huge plus

Given how expensive it is to be a tourist in Iceland, and this being the “budget option” - it’s pretty much what you would expect. Cheers

Quite a nice place but very average. Felt there was a lack of atmosphere whilst I was there and not the friendliest of welcomes.

You get what you pay for. When we stayed there, the lock to our door was broken and it was the first door on the first floor, so literally everyone who was staying there passed it. It was also uncomfortably hot and there was no AC. They also overbooked the room, so two guys were fighting over a bed assignment at midnight. It was a bit of a miserable experience, honestly. But buses do come right to the door and downtown Reykjavik is only a 20 minute walk.
