Overview

CITAN Hostel is in a seven-storey building with views of Tokyo's awe-inspiring skyscrapers and an arty coffee shop on the ground floor. We're all about those city vibes: our basement bar and restaurant have an industrial New York warehouse feel, and we host DJ sets here on the weekends to get you dancing. Our guests tend to gather in the kitchen and library, where you can have a go at making sushi, learn some handy Japanese phrases using our free Wi-Fi, or just mingle with people from all over the world.

Location

We're in the historic Nihonbashi business district, a couple of stops away from Tokyo Station (pretty much the centre of the city) on a JR train. This also makes getting here from Narita International Airport easy. Just take a subway from Terminal 2 to the Higashi-Nihombashi stop and walk the rest of the way – it's only 6 minutes. You can jump on line A from here to reach Asakusa Station in 4 minutes and visit sights like the atmospheric Sensō-ji temple.

Rooms and Dorms

Our private rooms and mixed or female-only dorms have shared bathrooms, and some of the private options come with their own washstand. We stock luxe organic toiletries from a local brand that you can use for free, so you can leave the bulky bottles at home. Linen is included too, so don't worry about packing a sleeping bag, and there are personal lockers to put your valuables in. Curtains around your bunk give you some privacy, and you can charge your phone with a handy bedside plug while you sleep.

Extras and activities

Sit back on our outdoor terrace with a hot drink from our tea and coffee facilities, or keep cool indoors under the air con. You'll find electrical outlets all over the common areas to keep your devices charged. With us you'll also have your own pair of slippers to pad about in – in comfy Japanese style, we take our shoes off as soon as we're inside.

This place was fantastic! The bathrooms were spotless, and there’s a nice coffee shop downstairs. The bar in the basement was super classy....easily the classiest I’ve seen in a hostel. There were actual real locals eating and drinking there hahaha. I would definitely stay here again if I’m in Tokyo.

Amazing place to stay! Staff were so friendly, and I met so many new people staying at the hostel. DJ nights were great but I wish there was some more organized events for guests. Walking distance away from at least two subway stations and great food all around!

Such a cool hostel! Kept immaculately clean. Really good coffee at the cafe downstairs and the bar is really nice. Staff are lovely. Was the best hostel I stayed at in Tokyo.

Great hostel, very clean and nice. It’s close to a few different subway stops so it’s easy to get around the city. The staff is nice and there is good food served there too.

Great spot! Surprisingly clean for such a big hostel. (It doesn't feel too big). Nice sized lockers, tiny but functional kitchen, friendly staff. Coffee shop and food truck add great vibes. 3 minutes to the nearest subway, easy to get everywhere in Tokyo.

Hostel atmosphere was lively on a Monday night. Fun vibe of people from around the world. Staff let us store our luggage after check out so we didn't have to carry it around the city or pay for a storage locker. Only downside was storage locker in the dorm itself. Too small to fit a backpacker's pack. Really only big enough to fit shoes and valuables. Cafe has great coffee and staff were very inviting and chatty! Would return!

Really liked this hostel. Has a bustling cafe and bar. The only downside is that there aren’t many foreigners - the bar especially seems to just be popular as a bar for the locals. Not a bad thing necessarily, but if you’re looking for a hostel full of travellers this isn’t the place. I still met some awesome people, and the staff are really friendly (and cool...I was intimidated by how cool the bar staff were haha). Super comfortable stay

My boyfriend and I stayed in an 8 dorm room. Despite the number of people, everyone was respectful, quiet and quite friendly. The facilities were great and we were really impressed with the cafe and bar area of the hostel. The location was alright, there's not much to do in the immediate vicinity. A short walk away are a bunch of restaurants and yakitori style places for food. Otherwise the area feels a bit corporate. The subway is super close though. We'd recommend CITAN and would stay again.

Citan is a very trendy hostel located in a convenient location (only a couple of stops from Tokyo station). It's a very clean hostel and has lots of spaces to hang out. Citan is a pretty big hostel with many guests, so I'd say a slight downside is feeling like you are just another guest with a booking.
