Overview

CITAN Hostel is in a seven-storey building with views of Tokyo's awe-inspiring skyscrapers and an arty coffee shop on the ground floor. We're all about those city vibes: our basement bar and restaurant have an industrial New York warehouse feel, and we host DJ sets here on the weekends to get you dancing. Our guests tend to gather in the kitchen and library, where you can have a go at making sushi, learn some handy Japanese phrases using our free Wi-Fi, or just mingle with people from all over the world.

Location

We're in the historic Nihonbashi business district, a couple of stops away from Tokyo Station (pretty much the centre of the city) on a JR train. This also makes getting here from Narita International Airport easy. Just take a subway from Terminal 2 to the Higashi-Nihombashi stop and walk the rest of the way – it's only 6 minutes. You can jump on line A from here to reach Asakusa Station in 4 minutes and visit sights like the atmospheric Sensō-ji temple.

Rooms and Dorms

Our private rooms and mixed or female-only dorms have shared bathrooms, and some of the private options come with their own washstand. We stock luxe organic toiletries from a local brand that you can use for free, so you can leave the bulky bottles at home. Linen is included too, so don't worry about packing a sleeping bag, and there are personal lockers to put your valuables in. Curtains around your bunk give you some privacy, and you can charge your phone with a handy bedside plug while you sleep.

Extras and activities

Sit back on our outdoor terrace with a hot drink from our tea and coffee facilities, or keep cool indoors under the air con. You'll find electrical outlets all over the common areas to keep your devices charged. With us you'll also have your own pair of slippers to pad about in – in comfy Japanese style, we take our shoes off as soon as we're inside.

Amazing place to stay! I loved every minute of it. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were lovely and clean. Amenities were provided, I would stay again in a heartbeat, and the front desk staff were lovely.

Security was good as you can expect from a hostel. Be mindful that this is a hostel though, not a hotel so standard is different. Location A+, very near to many stations and convenience stores. Staff were very friendly and fairly good at English. Atmosphere was very quiet. Not a social hostel which was fine for me but maybe not for you if you want that. Super clean. Great value as I paid around $23 a night and stayed 6 nights. Showers are awesome! Only complaint is sheets were a bit da

CITAN is super clean and comfortable. The atmosphere is boujee and pleasant - there’s an AMAZING coffee shop at the front that does great lattes. The communal kitchen was very clean and felt like a real, homey kitchen. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to be helpful whenever we had requests. Thank you CITAN!

The facilities were fantastic: free shampoo, conditioner and body wash which all smelt incredible and were obviously high quality. The curtains around each dorm bed are a great touch, giving you total privacy when you need it... they were so good I slept in an extra 3 hours one morning! All the staff were very keen to help with questions. Bar/restaurant downstairs bring a fun atmosphere. Would definitely stay again and have already recommended to friends!

    Fabulous

I was happily surprised with facilities, such as an iron and soap & shampoo. The coffee place in the entrance has amazing coffee and good pastries, although a little pricy for my student budget. Convenience stores and metro stations are right around the corner. The helpful staff gave me good recommendations on what to do. Guest could be a little more gentle on 'hostel etiquettes', as my female dorm was quite small and easily overcrowded & loud. (not the hostel's fault, but influenced my stay)

All good very nice hostel, one downside there was only one male toilet on the whole floor (probably sharing with +12 guests - not ideal) other than that great hostel

Location was perfect for travel: located within 3 blocks of multiple subway lines, direct 30 min ride to Haneda airport, major tourist sites (ie, Senso-ji Temple) easily accessible. Odd atmosphere. Staff were not knowledgeable about the area (uninformed about places to eat/things to do in immediate area), lockers available but too small to fit luggage of any kind, cafe/bar serves almost exclusively European food
