Property Description

Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel is a former shooting lodge in the heart of Cairngorms National Park, seven miles from Aviemore with stunning views towards the Northern Corries.

The hostel offers a range of comfortable private rooms and spacious shared accommodation with separate washrooms. Guests can opt for a continental breakfast, lunch or evening meal served in the dining room or take advantage of the large, well-equipped self-catering kitchen.

The hostel is licensed so you can relax and enjoy a locally brewed beer or a glass of wine in the cosy lounge, while taking in the view across the Cairngorms. Other facilities include a pool table, laundry, drying room and secure bike store. Basic provisions, confectionery and soft drinks are available to purchase at reception. Due to the hostel’s remote location, WiFi is free but access is limited.

Local activities include hillwalking, climbing, snowsports, mountain biking, pony trekking, watersports and fishing. Most activities take place on the Rothiemurchus Estate, a fabulous area with many easy paths through the Caledonian Pine Forest. The Scottish Whisky Trail is also nearby and, for something different, visit the Reindeer Centre, where you can feed and learn about these friendly free-roaming animals.

The hostel sits across the road from the banks of Loch Morlich, which boasts the highest sandy beach in the UK.

Cairngorm Lodge is a dog-friendly hostel. If you would like to book yourself and your dog into the hostel, please phone the hostel direct to check availability. There is a small charge of £5 per night for your dog when staying in our hostels.

The hostel is also available for exclusive private rental. View House Rules

What a fantastic youth hostel, everything and more. Staff were fabulous as was our room. Don’t know if it’s been recently decorated but our room (2xdouble bunks with separate private shower room) had what looked like new bunk beds and window, our shower room looked brand new and was exceptional. The dining area was spacious with a conservatory, outdoor seating, basic but well needed and well cooked food. Myself and 9yr old son didn’t want to leave. Will definitely be back, thankyou!! Xxxx

Fantastic stay. Perfect location. Friendly staff. An issue with our allocated shower prevents a top rating, but staff resolved the best they could. I'd definitely recommend this hostel and would stay again.

I stayed with my family and we loved it so much we stayed again on the way back. We had a lovely “wee” breakfast in the morning which set us up for our long journey home. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Thank you.

I rated the atmosphere a little lower for my last stay but this was due to covid. The times I've stayed before have been lively with a buzz about the place. No ones fault this time - just how it is at the moment. Happy with the procedures put in place.

v.friendly staff, helpful at meal times but lCairngorm beer @£3.95 a bottle is 50p more than at nearby bar. Lounge a bit gloomy - maybe that's because of Covid. Garden has great potential but seems a little neglected. Our bathroom ventilation poor and shower curtain too short with result floor always flooded after a shower. Staff gave us a towel to use as a floor mat but proper long shower curtain would make that unnecessary. It was nice that we didn't have to pay extra for towels.
