Property Description

In a colonial neighbourhood, we are 5 minutes walking from the central square and a three blocks from the main pedestrian street (Real de Guadalupe), where you can find the best restaurants, bars and leisure areas. We are a quiet, clean and safe hostel where you will be able to rest and meet interesting people enjoying a fresh and peaceful atmosphere.

The building where Casa Azabache lies is a traditional house from the 19th century. It preserves its original architectural style: facade finished by parapet, interior courtyards, corridors and an eave arranged in the form of L, supported by wooden columns. Private rooms are built around the porch.

At Casa Azabache, most of the adobe walls, up to 60 cm wide, are still standing, as are the wooden structures, the two-story ceilings with mud tiles, and a "tapanco" built with wooden beams.

Casa Azabache has 5 rooms with private bathroom, 2 rooms with shared bathroom, shared dormitory with 6 single beds, spacious and bright kitchen fully equipped, orchard and an open courtyards that invites to rest where to breathe the fresh and fresh air of this wonderful city .

Its creators knew how to customize the different spaces that make up the Inn combining in harmony a contemporary style with Mexican colonial architecture.

Adobe walls and wooden ceilings of the hall welcome a large and bright kitchen, the heart of the house, meeting center where travelers share experiences with a direct view of the inner courtyard, feature characteristic of the traditional houses of San Cristóbal. Each of the rooms gives the care of its creators for personalizing and give life of all to be able to offer the best lodging in San Cristóbal de las Casas.

But Casa Azabache is not simply a lodging is much more ..., our philosophy is born of the experience gained in our trips. Let us try to make your stay with us a continuous experience!

Services and Common Areas:

As in all families, Kitchen is the nerve center of Casa Azabache. Spacious and bright is the heart of the house, a meeting place where travelers share stories sharing something to drink. Among the harmonic furniture of exclusive design, stands a vertical garden with indoor plants that gives it freshness and favors the environment. Completely equipped and with part of the glass roof make of this environment a peaceful place.
The Courtyard retains its original colonial architectural style. L shaped wing, supported by wooden columns, on which hammocks rest, offering comfort and rest. The private rooms are developed around the portico and a small garden with native plants and aromatic subtly adorn the pure and fresh atmosphere of the area.

The Neighborhood:

The neighborhood of Santa Lucia is located within the perimeter of protection of the historic center, 5 minutes walk from the central square and a few meters from the main pedestrian Real de Guadalupe, where you will find the best restaurants, bars and leisure areas. From here you can visit on foot all the museums and main markets of San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Originally this neighborhood was a craft center par excellence and seat of builders. This district is dedicated to the elaboration of rockets and toritos. Now there is a market of artisans in this neighborhood where you can find a great variety of traditional candies and sweets of the city, some elaborated by the people of this zone.

Couldn’t rate this place higher! 11/10 It was a great location, the staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful and clean. And we managed to check in early as the room was empty when we arrived and they stored our bags for us on the day we checked out. Great location and tours available from reception. Free drinking water and area to cook/store food. Good wifi. Hot water. Would highly recommend.

Casa Azabache was lovely. Our double room was very nice. It’s a lovely place for a couple to stay if you like a nice chilled back vibe, it’s very quiet. Vanessa on the front desk is a star, she looked after us very well.

Great hostel in an perfect location. We had a private room with a shared bathroom which was fine. It has a very chilled and quiet atmosphere ideal for getting a rest. Theres a 10am - 10pm curfew rule for the kitchen area. There’s a laundrette across the road which is very handy. The host is fantastic and always willing to help you. The place is very clean and they supply towels. The Wi-Fi has a good signal. I cannot fault this hostel. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Really nice and chilled place to stay. Not as social and more of a hotel but great all the same. Jamie was super helpful with booking tours and goes out of his way to help on anything.

Really lovely stay. Beautiful and clean rooms and common area. Kitchen facilities are well kept and coffee and tea are free. Not the best for meeting people, but a good quiet retreat. Overall security is good because reception was always staffed when we walked by (not sure about late night) but after cleaning our room they left the door unlocked and wide open while we were out.

Nice place, but beware it’s basically a hotel and the room you rent on here is basically in the lobby (Room #7 and #8). They are very nice.. perhaps too nice, it’s almost like they did something really bad and are trying to cover it up by being really nice. Unfortunately they are so nice and talk so loud and clear you will not be able to sleep in because you are sleeping next to the reception desk. Earplugs won’t save you. Water is warm, not hot. Good luck out there.
