Property Description

In a colonial neighbourhood, we are 5 minutes walking from the central square and a three blocks from the main pedestrian street (Real de Guadalupe), where you can find the best restaurants, bars and leisure areas. We are a quiet, clean and safe hostel where you will be able to rest and meet interesting people enjoying a fresh and peaceful atmosphere.

The building where Casa Azabache lies is a traditional house from the 19th century. It preserves its original architectural style: facade finished by parapet, interior courtyards, corridors and an eave arranged in the form of L, supported by wooden columns. Private rooms are built around the porch.

At Casa Azabache, most of the adobe walls, up to 60 cm wide, are still standing, as are the wooden structures, the two-story ceilings with mud tiles, and a "tapanco" built with wooden beams.

Casa Azabache has 5 rooms with private bathroom, 2 rooms with shared bathroom, shared dormitory with 6 single beds, spacious and bright kitchen fully equipped, orchard and an open courtyards that invites to rest where to breathe the fresh and fresh air of this wonderful city .

Its creators knew how to customize the different spaces that make up the Inn combining in harmony a contemporary style with Mexican colonial architecture.

Adobe walls and wooden ceilings of the hall welcome a large and bright kitchen, the heart of the house, meeting center where travelers share experiences with a direct view of the inner courtyard, feature characteristic of the traditional houses of San Cristóbal. Each of the rooms gives the care of its creators for personalizing and give life of all to be able to offer the best lodging in San Cristóbal de las Casas.

But Casa Azabache is not simply a lodging is much more ..., our philosophy is born of the experience gained in our trips. Let us try to make your stay with us a continuous experience!

Services and Common Areas:

As in all families, Kitchen is the nerve center of Casa Azabache. Spacious and bright is the heart of the house, a meeting place where travelers share stories sharing something to drink. Among the harmonic furniture of exclusive design, stands a vertical garden with indoor plants that gives it freshness and favors the environment. Completely equipped and with part of the glass roof make of this environment a peaceful place.
The Courtyard retains its original colonial architectural style. L shaped wing, supported by wooden columns, on which hammocks rest, offering comfort and rest. The private rooms are developed around the portico and a small garden with native plants and aromatic subtly adorn the pure and fresh atmosphere of the area. A traditional wooden staircase from the nineteenth century takes us to the meditation and yoga room, a space where there is nothing to be distracted, where you feel tranquility and intimacy during your activity.

The Neighborhood:

The neighborhood of Santa Lucia is located within the perimeter of protection of the historic center, 5 minutes walk from the central square and a few meters from the main pedestrian Real de Guadalupe, where you will find the best restaurants, bars and leisure areas. From here you can visit on foot all the museums and main markets of San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Originally this neighborhood was a craft center par excellence and seat of builders. This district is dedicated to the elaboration of rockets and toritos. Now there is a market of artisans in this neighborhood where you can find a great variety of traditional candies and sweets of the city, some elaborated by the people of this zone.

We loved staying at Casa Azabache! The staff was unbelievably helpful and made you feel like home! The Hostel is quiet and a dream for light sleepers! The Concept of the interior is very tasteful and the owner even drew some of the pictures! Within 3 minutes by feed you’re on the Main Street, which offers a lot of nice restaurants, Cafés and Shops! I just can recommend staying at this Hostel/Hotel!

Clean and calm. Staff was super chill and accommodating. Facilities are great. Hot water for the showers takes some time to warm up but nothing unusual.

More of a hotel than a hostel, but very beautiful and peaceful with nice local decor. Very close to the main street, and the staff gave many great recommendations.

The perfect place if you are trying to escape the party hostel scene and take a break! Not a ton of people stayed here which made it really nice for going to bed at a relatively decent hour. Pros: really nice kitchen if you want to cook, great location to everything, really clean, hammocks to lounge around in, chill staff, really cozy. Cons: no hot shower but it's not terrible. Would definitely book with them again.

    Very Good

Good location, very clean and excellent WiFi. However this is more of a hotel, with a dorm room. There are far more private rooms than dorm rooms, as such there is no atmosphere. Furthermore I was at the top of the triple bunk. There is no outlets in the bunks, as such I had to charge my phone on the floor despite being on the third bunk, awkward getting down to turn my alarm off. Also there is an apartment above the hostel, and you can here people moving around and making noise, difficult.

    Very Good

In a dorm setting, you get what you pay for. Triple decker bunk beds in dorms, nil reading lamps or power point. 1 toilet for 8 persons, which was unfortunate as 2 people had severe food poisoning. Shower located in same bathroom. Basic beds, towel provided. Atmosphere very quiet. Staff were super helpful when promoted, eg asking about bicycle rental - onto computer right away. Cleanest kitchen I’ve seen in a hostel, however no introduction to where things are / what you can use.

the room is just infront of the living room. the do noise all the time and the bedroom upstairs is noisey. you hear the water coming down from bathroom, all steps on the floor . the do not respect your tour reservations and they only have 1 bathroom( for 1 person) share with all the rooms.
