Overview

The legendary hammocks at Casa Elemento are some of the largest in the world, with sweeping views across the mountains. Go Insta-crazy snapping pics of sunsets, or get up early to practise your favourite yoga pose in peace, followed by a dip in our open-air pool. If you’re feeling like a nap, try the swinging hammock, or just chill with a cold drink at the nearby fire pit, home to our nightly campfire. Our bar is stocked with everything from spirits to craft beer from a local brewery, so grab a drink and soak up the jungle vibes.

Location

We're in the heart of the jungle, so you can spot toucans during the day and wake up to the sound of howler monkeys in the morning. You don’t have to go far to find hiking tracks and waterfalls, or you can book a mountain biking or safari tour. To find us, you’ll first need to get to the town of Santa Marta, around 250km from Cartagena. From there we can arrange a 4x4 transfer, or you can get a local colectivo (shared taxi) or moto-taxi in about 45 minutes.

Rooms and Dorms

We have options to suit all budgets, starting with open-air hammocks overlooking the jungle. The dorms in the main house are close to the bar, with beds made from pine from the surrounding trees. To be a little further from the festivities, book a bed in the Cabaña dorm with its own private viewing deck and hammock. Private cabañas and treehouses are also available if you want a bit more privacy.

Extras and activities

Our restaurant dishes up hearty favourites like burgers, lasagna and burritos. Made from ingredients sourced locally, our family-style dinners will fill you up so you’re ready to take on the mountain the next day. You can also cook up a feast on our barbecue. Breakfast includes homemade granola and breads served with fresh juice and local coffee.

    Superb

Wow, what an amazing hostel! A really nice spot high up in the mountains. The hammocks and bar were the best! We took the jeep to Casa Elemento, which costs 120.000 COP in total. You can share it with up to 5 or 6 persons (depending on which jeep). Costs by motorbike are 20.000 COP per person.

    Fabulous

Casa elemento is definitely worth the trip - but I wouldn't want to stay more than one night. There were cockroaches inside the lockers in our room and if you are in the main building the bar can get super loud. Still it was a super fun place to spend a night. Can't beat the views

Nice atmosphere if you are into partying. Some rooms are very close to the bar, so there is a chance you will be listening to music all day long. Beautiful view and fun times. Not very close to minca, so you'll have to take a motorbike up.

Casa Elemento is such a cool place, but I would only recommend a day trip and not staying there overnight. The lady at the desk, Julia or Julianne, ass very rude ro everyone and offered as little help to everyone as she possibly could. She acted bothered by any questions you had. Some of the staff just seemed unhappy to be there and didnt want to help. Our rooms were not cleaned daily, the largest hammock in the world was unavailable and they wouldnt let us see it. Overa, we had fun.

Moto taxi to this hostel was great fun, The view and hammocks are the selling point. We had a great night with the other people staying but the bar shut at exactly midnight which in turn meant the music went aswell even though there was still maybe 15 people drinking and chatting around the firepit this was less than ideal. I mean I've stayed better places for less but still worth a trip up the hill.

The place is awesome itself but all the time I stayed there the toilets were really dirty. The staff wasn’t friendl: I went to put some bikinis on the sun because they were wet and they treated me like if a was to steal all the clothes on that space

We stayed there for a night. The staff is not nice at all we had the impression we were disturbing them each time we asked for something. The room, the bathroom and the swimming pool were disgusting. It was also very noisy. Except for the view it was the worst hostel I've stayed in Colombia. If you wanna see the view (the only good thing about the hostel), you can have a drink there but I strongly advise you not to sleep in this hostel don't waste your money there's many amazing hostel in Minca!

Great views from the hostel and credit to the chefs because the evening meals were delicious! I don’t have a problem with basic hostels but for £10 a night this place sucked. Some staff were blunt and unhelpful when it came to info about the area and ordering at the bar. Bathroom had no shower curtain, no toilet seat, no toilet roll and was so dirty. Bins overflowed and litter everywhere. Big hammocks looking old and worn but still fun. Needs BIG renovations or cheaper prices.

This hostel was filthy. We were told not to stay here, just visit for the hammocks. We went against it and stayed - regret! We were put in a separate block called 'Finca' - this was very secluded and so dirty, the tap water was brown!! All of the toilet facilities are gross, this hostel needs doing up asap! Also the member of staff on reception was so unhelpful, miserable & rude. They also play music VERY loud but the place itself isn't that type of place. Don't stay!

Terrible service and a highly uncomfortable atmosphere. Facilities barely worked and it was not clean. I would not recommend anyone to stay here, it is extremely over priced for what it is
