Property Description

Chateau One Guesthouse is located at 100 years old shophouses in the heart of Georgetown, Penang, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is only a stroll away from most of the historical landmarks like Little India, Fort Connwallis, Kapitan Keling Mosque, Khoo Kongsi, Kuan Yin Temple and Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion.

This guesthouse is all about preserving the memories of the building, expressing the detailing, creating a natural, comfortable and authentic interior which appears to be a joy to occupy. All effort has been made to preserve as much of the character of the existing building as possible. Existing features have been left untouched while new circulation has been added. The interior retains traces of its previous incarnations in the form of sections of exposed beams, brickwork and aged door. Those incredible worn walls were simply left to be as they are – patchy and broken – without the need to make them perfect by restoring or covering them up.

Cosy and homely hostel, excellent location right in the centre of Georgetown and a minutes walk to bars and restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful! It was very quiet, definitely a place if you’re looking to chill out. Would stay again

Lovely place with the cutest most social cat! Great location close by old town. Also close to the ferry terminal. Simple no fuss hostel but cozy and the bathrooms are good

I had a private single room on the top floor of this hostel, and it was probably the best sleep I have had in Asia! Certainly the best sleep at a hostel. Utterly silent!

Literally the perfect location. One street away from the bars and restaurants so it’s not too loud but still a 1 minute walk. Private room was small with a floor mattress but more than enough for a budget-conscious traveler.

Close to restaurants, bars, shopping street and street art. Also food stalls set up in nearby street. Staff were friendly and helpful and good security.

Super location, clean and comfy. Super squeaky beds. Had to change twice or no-one in the room could sleep! The staff were all workaways who didn't speak to the guests but spoke to one another. Loooovely people but antisocial vibe. Could hear a pin drop each evening.

The hostel is a bit hard to found because there was no visible sign at the front of the hostel. I stayed at the dorm with 8 beds. It was clean and nice. My bed was not squeaky. The bathroom was very clean and I satisfied with it. It was overpriced to be honest, but I enjoyed my time because I can rest well there.

We booked into a private double room and were very disappointed. The bed was on the floor, there was no natural light as it was basically in the attic and it wasn’t cleaned once during our stay which inevitably resulted in many mosquitos in the room. The bathroom was rarely cleaned and always smelled bad and the hostel staff not only knew nothing about the local area and seemed incredibly reluctant to help guests, but also tried to charge us double for our room which was already overpriced.

Overpriced. The room is dingy with squeeky old bunk beds and cheap mattresses. They also list towels being included, but when I asked for one they told me it was only for private rooms. There's better or similar hostels in town for less money. Not recommended.
