Property Description

The Chelsea International Hostel is one of the largest independent Hostels in New York City, operating since 1992. We are located in Chelsea, a prime location in the heart of Manhattan. From here our guests can walk to most of the attractions NYC has to offer. Highline Park is only 2 blocks away. Follow the lights and arrive in Times Square after a 15-minute walk. But if you prefer to ride the subway, feel free to hop on any of the many subway lines that serve us (A, C, E, F, 1, 2, 3). You can get virtually anywhere in the city in just a few minutes.

Our simple, functional rooms can sleep one to four guests in single beds (in single, shared and private twin rooms) or double-size beds (in private double-bed rooms). We do not use bunk beds in our rooms. Every room is air-conditioned during the summer months. Most rooms will share bathrooms down the hall and the bathrooms are cleaned constantly. Every floor in any of our eight buildings has a bathroom; most of the times there is no waiting in line to use the bathrooms.

Our guests love to gather in the outdoor courtyard, such a rare space in an urban area like NYC. Two kitchens, a dining room and a lounge complement our common areas. They are open from 7 am to 11 pm, in consideration to our good neighbors.

Our guests also enjoy:

FREE WI-FI throughout the entire property. Desktop computers and printer are also available in the lounge for a fee.

FREE continental breakfast, served from 8 am to 10 am. You will be welcome to enjoy a variety of bagels, cereal, fresh fruits, coffee, milk and tea.

FREE pizza on Wednesday evenings. Our “All You Can Eat” pizza event has been our tradition since our opening.

Lockers in the room for your valuables. You need to provide your own padlock (medium-size, thick).

Linen and towels (one bath towel per guest) are provided.

Luggage storage is available for an additional fee ($4 - $5).

Check in starts at 3PM.

Check out is no later than 12 PM NOON.

Please note our following policies:

Valid passport is required to check in. This policy is also valid for American and Canadian citizens. NO EXCEPTIONS.

All guests must be 18 years old or older to stay with us.

Hotel taxes are not included in the rates. NYS, NYC Sales Tax: 14.75%. Occupancy taxes: $3.50 per person per night. These will be added to your balance.

Maximum stay in our hostel is 14 nights in any given 30 days. We will not accept consecutive reservations that add up to more than 14 nights.

Payment is due full upon arrival. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Traveler Checks or Cash.

A $10 deposit (cash only) per person is required at check-in and is refundable upon return of keys on time.

Pets are not allowed.

Beds and rooms are allocated on the arrival day. We will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee that a group of 2 or more people will be in the same room.

We have a 24hr cancellation policy. Late cancellations, late changes and no-shows shall be charged the equivalent of the first night's accommodation.

Packages: As a courtesy, we will accept packages for guests that are currently checked in to our system. We cannot accept packages before a guest checks in or after a guest checks out. The name on the package must match the name on the reservation. If the name on the package does not match our system or if the package does not have a name, it will not be accepted. Please note that due to space restrictions, we cannot accept large volumes or oversized packages. View House Rules

    Superb

We try to stay at an inexpensive place on all trips because usually when we are there, our eyes are shut most of the time. It is comfortable, clean and safe. It is only 3 short blocks from either the red or blue subway lines. The E train (blue) goes to both JFK and LaGuardia airports. Near JFK, you have to switch to the skytrain (small fee) and near LaGuardia, a free shuttle bus. We like that breakfast is included - bagel, fruit, cereal, milk, juice, coffee. Grocery and drug store nearby.

It is a nice hostel if you don’t want to pay crazy prices for a hotel night and you just want a clean and comfortable place to sleep after walking the full day. I will come back.

This is my second time here. Unbeatable in price/quality. I booked a 2-bed room and gave me a single bed room for no additional cost. Staff is super kind and everything went fine and smooth. :) Cheers, from Argentina.

The place is as basic as it gets. If you need a bed, a shower, and a place to leave your stuff in, go ahead. It's cheap and the location is perfect (~2 minute walk to a few subway stations). The common areas are barebones and not very comfortable. Wi-Fi is great though. Breakfast was just bagel, fruit and cereal. Cleanliness was ok, but I did see and kill 2 small cockroaches. Staff was friendly, except for the first guy who was rather snarky and rude. Would recommend for the price and location.

    Very Good

When I arrived just after 11pm I was told the computer is backing up and to come back at midnight to check in so that wasn't a great start. The email specifically said I'd been able to check in 'anytime after 3pm'. The bagel for breakfast was good in the morning. It's an old building and everytime anyone closes the front door or any door it slams shut, and noise easily carries through the walls so definitely bring earplugs! The price is mainly paying for the location so was worth it for that.

Great location for a hostel. I think it is around some nice areas to check out within walking distance. The bed is not comfortable. It is unusually hard so I did a lot of tossing and turning. Overall not bad for a private room. Bare room and had all the essentials. It is the most bare bones hostel I have ever been to and don't count on a warm environment, but it does have some perks such as the location and the price isn't so bad for that.

Facilities are substandard for price. Kitchen was outdated and administrative staff was unfriendly. This was the most expensive hostel ive ever stayed and by far the least ambient and modern. Old is good when it has charm. Zero charm here
