Property Description

The Chelsea International Hostel is one of the largest independent Hostels in New York City, operating since 1992. We are located in Chelsea, a prime location in the heart of Manhattan. From here our guests can walk to most of the attractions NYC has to offer. Highline Park is only 2 blocks away. Follow the lights and arrive in Times Square after a 15-minute walk. But if you prefer to ride the subway, feel free to hop on any of the many subway lines that serve us (A, C, E, F, 1, 2, 3). You can get virtually anywhere in the city in just a few minutes.

Our simple, functional rooms can sleep one to four guests in single beds (in single, shared and private twin rooms) or double-size beds (in private double-bed rooms). We do not use bunk beds in our rooms. Every room is air-conditioned during the summer months. Most rooms will share bathrooms down the hall and the bathrooms are cleaned constantly. Every floor in any of our eight buildings has a bathroom; most of the times there is no waiting in line to use the bathrooms.

Our guests love to gather in the outdoor courtyard, such a rare space in an urban area like NYC. Two kitchens, a dining room and a lounge complement our common areas. They are open from 7 am to 11 pm, in consideration to our good neighbors.

Our guests also enjoy:

FREE WI-FI throughout the entire property. Desktop computers and printer are also available in the lounge for a fee.

FREE continental breakfast, served from 8 am to 10 am. You will be welcome to enjoy a variety of bagels, cereal, fresh fruits, coffee, milk and tea.

FREE pizza on Wednesday evenings. Our “All You Can Eat” pizza event has been our tradition since our opening.

Lockers in the room for your valuables. You need to provide your own padlock (medium-size, thick).

Linen and towels (one bath towel per guest) are provided.

Luggage storage is available for an additional fee ($4 - $5).

Check in starts at 3PM.

Check out is no later than 12 PM NOON.

Please note our following policies:

Valid passport is required to check in. This policy is also valid for American and Canadian citizens. NO EXCEPTIONS.

All guests must be 18 years old or older to stay with us.

Hotel taxes are not included in the rates. NYS, NYC Sales Tax: 14.75%. Occupancy taxes: $3.50 per person per night. These will be added to your balance.

Maximum stay in our hostel is 14 nights in any given 30 days. We will not accept consecutive reservations that add up to more than 14 nights.

Payment is due full upon arrival. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Traveler Checks or Cash.

A $10 deposit (cash only) per person is required at check-in and is refundable upon return of keys on time.

Pets are not allowed.

Beds and rooms are allocated on the arrival day. We will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee that a group of 2 or more people will be in the same room.

We have a 24hr cancellation policy. Late cancellations, late changes and no-shows shall be charged the equivalent of the first night's accommodation.

Packages: As a courtesy, we will accept packages for guests that are currently checked in to our system. We cannot accept packages before a guest checks in or after a guest checks out. The name on the package must match the name on the reservation. If the name on the package does not match our system or if the package does not have a name, it will not be accepted. Please note that due to space restrictions, we cannot accept large volumes or oversized packages. View House Rules

Located in central Manhattan, the Chelsea International Hostel is a great place to rest your head after taking a bite out of the Big Apple. We'll make sure you're well fed with a free breakfast every morning and our famous all-you-can-eat pizza night. In hot summer months, the air con will keep you cool and you'll be able to get to know other guests in our communal courtyard – a rare bonus here in NYC! It’s open from 7am and closes again at 11pm to make sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep.

You'll find us in one of New York's most vibrant and trendy neighbourhoods, just two blocks from High Line Park and a 15-minute stroll from Times Square. Chelsea is packed with speakeasy bars, Instagram-ready restaurants and hot spots like the Gansevoort Market and Gotham Comedy Club. We're served by lots of subway lines too (A, C, E, F, 1, 2, 3), so it's easy to get around when you're looking to spend a day further afield.

Rooms and Dorms

Our functional dorm rooms come with all the essentials and they sleep up to four people. There are bathrooms on every floor and some of the private rooms have en-suites. And don't worry about climbing onto the top bunk in the middle of the night: all our beds are standard singles or doubles, so everyone gets prime position.

Extras and activities

If your data's limited, grab one of our free city maps so you stay on track when you're out and about. Back in the hostel, whip up a snack in our kitchen. Really great stay. Only thing I would suggest is having cream cheese with the bagels in the morning. Overall, I felt safe and cared for.

+ Me and my friend stayed at the Hostel for 2 nights in a double room with a private bathroom. The room is old but was cleaned both days and perfect for a short stay. The location in Chelsea is great, everything is in walking distance or reachable by train. We were really happy with our choice and would stay there again. - Don't expect too much from the breakfast. We went out both days, because not a lot is provided. Staff could be a bit friendlier.

I'm not a huge fan of requiring guests to hand in a token before getting breakfast. Overall still a decent hostel.

Clean, organized, and includes a lot of amenities you don't always get. Make sure you have a passport. I was traveling domestically so didn't have mine... I didn't book until that same day, and their "passport id only" rule wasn't obvious on the site. The guy at reception was very rude despite me trying to explain my situation. Ultimately I was allowed to stay and everything else was pleasant. This definitely doesn't seem to be a party hostel. Nice but I'll try somewhere else next time :)

Great place to stay for the price, amazing location for people wanting to be central to big sights!! Front desk staff were helpful always, bed sheets did have stains/blood on them, cant speak for other rooms but my door didnt close/lock properly unless i tried really hard...but staying in a hostel its best to keep stuff locked anyway. But overall this place gave me everything i needed for 4 nights stay, was warm, good breakfast. Would return :)

    Very Good

    29 Jan 2020
Ideal location for a perfect stay in Manhattan. Rooms and bathrooms were basic along with the common areas. If you are a big eater, don’t expect the have a filling breakfast as the staff were stingy at handing out any extra bagels. Also the hostel doesn’t offer any free baggage holding. The atmosphere between travellers is almost non-existent as the hostel don’t really offer any communal activities. Overall you can’t complain when you pay the asking price.

The place was clean and exactly as advertised. No complaints there. I didn't sleep at all though due to the temperature of the room and the mattress. The bed is all coils with just a bit of fabric over the top. I didn't expect luxury, but this was ridiculous. The room was a sauna with no way to adjust the temp. Window was open all night which meant I heard everything from the street but would have been sweating buckets all night if it wasn't. I paid for a private room, and still didn't sleep.

Amazing location but found this hostel to have no real atmosphere at all. Maybe it would be better in the warmer months but the common areas were desolate.. and cold. The room was very clean and had a good amount of space, and you can't beat the location. Don't come here to meet people, do come here for a chill place to rest your head in the middle of the action.
