Property Description

The Chelsea International Hostel is one of the largest independent Hostels in New York City, operating since 1992. We are located in Chelsea, a prime location in the heart of Manhattan. From here our guests can walk to most of the attractions NYC has to offer. Highline Park is only 2 blocks away. Follow the lights and arrive in Times Square after a 15-minute walk. But if you prefer to ride the subway, feel free to hop on any of the many subway lines that serve us (A, C, E, F, 1, 2, 3). You can get virtually anywhere in the city in just a few minutes.

Our simple, functional rooms can sleep one to four guests in single beds (in single, shared and private twin rooms) or double-size beds (in private double-bed rooms). We do not use bunk beds in our rooms. Every room is air-conditioned during the summer months. Most rooms will share bathrooms down the hall and the bathrooms are cleaned constantly. Every floor in any of our eight buildings has a bathroom; most of the times there is no waiting in line to use the bathrooms.

Our guests love to gather in the outdoor courtyard, such a rare space in an urban area like NYC. Two kitchens, a dining room and a lounge complement our common areas. They are open from 7 am to 11 pm, in consideration to our good neighbors.

Our guests also enjoy:

FREE WI-FI throughout the entire property. Desktop computers and printer are also available in the lounge for a fee.

FREE continental breakfast, served from 8 am to 10 am. You will be welcome to enjoy a variety of bagels, cereal, fresh fruits, coffee, milk and tea.

FREE pizza on Wednesday evenings. Our “All You Can Eat” pizza event has been our tradition since our opening.

Lockers in the room for your valuables. You need to provide your own padlock (medium-size, thick).

Linen and towels (one bath towel per guest) are provided.

Luggage storage is available for an additional fee ($4 - $5).

Check in starts at 3PM.

Check out is no later than 12 PM NOON.

Please note our following policies:

Valid passport is required to check in. This policy is also valid for American and Canadian citizens. NO EXCEPTIONS.

All guests must be 18 years old or older to stay with us.

Hotel taxes are not included in the rates. NYS, NYC Sales Tax: 14.75%. Occupancy taxes: $3.50 per person per night. These will be added to your balance.

Maximum stay in our hostel is 14 nights in any given 30 days. We will not accept consecutive reservations that add up to more than 14 nights.

Payment is due full upon arrival. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Traveler Checks or Cash.

A $10 deposit (cash only) per person is required at check-in and is refundable upon return of keys on time.

Pets are not allowed.

Beds and rooms are allocated on the arrival day. We will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee that a group of 2 or more people will be in the same room.

We have a 24hr cancellation policy. Late cancellations, late changes and no-shows shall be charged the equivalent of the first night's accommodation.

Packages: As a courtesy, we will accept packages for guests that are currently checked in to our system. We cannot accept packages before a guest checks in or after a guest checks out. The name on the package must match the name on the reservation. If the name on the package does not match our system or if the package does not have a name, it will not be accepted. Please note that due to space restrictions, we cannot accept large volumes or oversized packages. View House Rules

We're served by lots of subway lines too (A, C, E, F, 1, 2, 3), so it's easy to get around when you're looking to spend a day further afield.

Rooms and Dorms

Our functional dorm rooms come with all the essentials and they sleep up to four people. There are bathrooms on every floor and some of the private rooms have en-suites. And don't worry about climbing onto the top bunk in the middle of the night: all our beds are standard singles or doubles, so everyone gets prime position.

Chelsea International Hostels is the best value and location for my money. They are not a "fly by night" operation and have been in business for at least 15 years or so. The first time I stayed with them was 2004. There is nothing worse than showing up at a hostel in NYC only to find a note on the door that says that the Hostel that you booked 5 months in advance is now closed. Chelsea International is a "legal" hostel that follows all of the NYC rules and regulations. Clean great value!

The hostel has a good location: safe and easy to reach the main sights on foot or by metro. It is a really great place to meet people easily from all around the world especially if you travel alone. The rooms are simple but clean and comforable. The only minus point is the breakfast because of the lack of environmental friendliness. They serve everything in disposable paper plates&cups and with disposable plastic cutlery.

Had booked a private room with shared bathroom but they ugraded us to a private bathroom which was nice. Rooms are very basic, only one plug socket no lamps or chairs just 2 metal twin beds that’s it. Also quite noisy outside and the ac unit is old so very noisy to sleep next to. Breakfast was nice, fresh bagels and fruit. Overall good value, if you don’t mind basic. Good location too, right by chelsea market and the high line. City bike rental at the end of the street to get to other places.

Not bad for less than $100 a night right in the heart of Chelsea district. Lots of coffee shops and restaurants nearby. I probably wouldn’t stay here again solely because the room I stayed in felt like a jail cell; it was bare bones. Nothing cozy about it. BUT it was clean and safe 👍🏼The staff was kind and efficient.

The room itself was very nice, small but cute and quaint. The staff were very friendly and checked me in and out very fast. My only complaint was that the water wouldn’t get warm, so I couldn’t shower...

It was a nice hostel next to many subways right next to the City, 7 min to Grand Central. I didn’t like that hostel was right next to all of the above ground trains and major roads with lots of grid lock traffic and horns. You can hear the rumble of trains and screeching of breaks all day and night long, and for some reason loud motorcycles without mufflers. Thanks that I had earplugs and eye mask which helped, though could still hear the noise. Windows are old and not double paned.

Great location, close to many sites and in a cool neighbourhood with lots to do. Not the cleanest though, most is a bit shabby and there wasn't a lot to do in the hostel itself.

We arrived at the hostel early and had to pay to leave our bags. The twin room was very small and felt like a cell, painted in dark grey with metal beds, and hardly any room to move in between. There was water dripping through the ceiling above the light fitting above the sink. When we let the staff know they were unfriendly, sent someone around who said he couldn't do anything. We were left with a situation that was unsafe and I had to tape up the electrics myself. Very overpriced at over $100
