Hostelworld says

Chicago Getaway Hostel was rated the 4th Best Extra Large Hostel in the World in 2011 Hoscars and the 7th in 2013, it's not difficult to see why. This bright, airy, spacious and modern hostel has recently remodeled dorms with a lamp and outlet for each bed and has a new color scheme identifying with their social, sophisticated, savvy motto. It's located a short walk from the lake and just 10 minutes from Fullerton subway station connecting directly to the downtown area. We like their friendly staff, who are knowledgeable about Chicago and organise daily activities and night events.

I enjoyed this experience SO much! Seriously will never stay anywhere else in Chicago. They helped us figure out the trains and buses, which were so easy to handle. The free breakfast was limited but unexpected, so we really enjoyed that! In addition, the nights were extremely fun, as all the people would hang out! I loved it.

Very nice facilities in what seems to be an uptown neighborhood. It has a lot of rooms, so each of them is not full of people which is great on this new pandemic life. It is not close to downtown, it is closer to Lincoln Park, but a rental bike from Divvy resolved the issue.

Nice and clean place to stay while on your adventure. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm and there were only 3 of us. I had no problem getting time to use the shower and bathroom thar we all shared. They also have breakfast in the morning which was a great way to start the day. The hostel is in the historic lincoln park. There is plenty to do in the area plus easy access to downtown by subway.

The place was in a really good location. All the restaurants and bars are within walking distance. The hostel didn't have that hostel vibe it felt more like a hotel if you're looking for hostel vibes this place ain't it but if you're looking for a nice place to work from remotely or in town for few days and need a place to stay it's definitely worth the money.

The location is fantastic. A historic high-end neighborhood that I was shocked to find a hostel in, and feels very safe. The downside is parking is $28 on-site, and the not-really-nearby on street options could be a real challenge to find empty. The place was not busy when I was there, but I get the feeling a true peak occupancy time would present serious bathroom/shower delays. Otherwise, the place is HUGE and has a cool feel. (Not feeling so good were the towels, I should add. Like sandpaper!)

Overall a very nice hostel. Pros - beautiful neighborhood, 10 minute walk to a Red Line stop, very clean, nice common spaces, free breakfast, grocery stores nearby Cons - full kitchen not open; shower set up was bad and lacked convenient hooks; child size bunk beds so expect to bump your head if you’re on the bottom; atmosphere not there perhaps due to COVID or the large group of students who overtook the common spaces in the morning and at night.

The bedroom area was a little scary to walk to as a woman because it was in the stairwell with very dark lighting. The hostel made a mistake and cleaned our beds a day early before checkout, which at first felt nice, BUT my pajamas were on top. So after spending a few hours with staff as they tried to locate them they gave up. So my clothes were taken from me and I was not once offered any sort of accommodation except for some extra t shirt and a "sorry".

Chicago Getaway Hostel says

I think we offer some great extras to our guests, like our continental buffet breakfast, which includes coffee, fresh fruit, cereal, breakfast breads and more. We also offer discounted museum and attraction tickets, bike rentals, and daily social events. We also give you a bonus of one free meal weekly. In the summer it's a BBQ and in winter a warm meal.
What a lot of people don't know about our hostel is that it was originally built in 1928 as part of the Eleanor Foundation in order to provide affordable housing for women coming into the city and entering the workforce. Nearly 84 years later, we're still offering affordable lodging in an amazing and historic neighbourhood.
In my opinion, there's three places that you can't leave Chicago Getaway Hostel without checking out. The first is Kingston Mines a legendary Blues bar located a few blocks away. Secondly, you can't leave Chicago without trying Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza. Thirdly, you haven't lived until you've had a Chicago hot dog from Chicago's Dog House. These three places will make your trip unforgettable. Mathew, General Manager
