Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel was rated the best in China at the 2011 Hoscars and it's not difficult to see why. They serve free dinners three times a week plus tea ceremonies and calligraphy classes on the weekends. We like that there's also free breakfast, free games and free guidebooks to borrow. The friendly staff are helpful for booking tours throughout China. This hostel is located in central Beijing, just five minutes from Xisi metro station.

Great place to stay! All the rooms on the property exit into a nice courtyard. The common area is well equipped, spacious and conducive to socializing and making friends. Most of all, the staff were extremely kind and helpful. They were always happy to answer any questions and provide suggestions and tips. Definitely will be back next time I'm in Beijing!

Great place to stay in Beijing within an original Hutong neighborhood. We stayed in a private room which had a comfortable bed and a good shower! It is within a 3 min walk from the subway, which you can easily use to explore the entire city! Would stay again.

I was very satisfied with my stay at Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel. The staff are very friendly and the facility is clean. It is well located in a Hutong about 0.5 km from the nearest subway station (Xisi). The atmosphere was very friendly - I had no problems striking up conversations and making new friends there. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Lovely Hostel, very close to a train station, with very cute rooms. There were 3 of us and we booked the family room. It was lovely. You get the same room as a double private room, which is with a giant mattress that easily fits 3 people without touching, and a big bathroom with a waterfall shower. Air Conditioning in the room worked great, and overall, the hostel was very cute and clean. Worth it!

cool location in the hutongs, with a nice courtyard and common area, fully equipped with games, art and musical instruments. I loved that they offer bikes to borrow for free though they are a bit out of shape. The dorm doesn't give a lot of private space, since beds are all next to each other separated only by a small wooden fence, though it didn't bother me much. Staff was great, very friendly

Thank you to Echo and all the girls on staff. They were able up help me get my guide paid through WeChat. They were friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere was great - and the rooms quaint. They had everything you needed. A LOT of help in English. The taxi may not want to come down the street so beware if you have a lot of luggage. I could not have asked for a better stay in Beijing. Even my Chinese national friends were interested in this place. This was the perfect stay!

Nice and cozy, a smaller hostel in a quiet neighborhood but still very central to all the Major attractions. I for one prefer that calmness of this place, it made it easier to make friends and feel more at home. The 2 ladies working there Jutta & Chen Chen were absolutely amazing, fun to chat with and very helpful with all my travel needs.

Small, quiet hostel with helpful staff. Very secure with card pass for front door and locks on each dorm. Small communal area so not the easiest to meet other travellers. Beds are separated by wooden boards (see photos). Showers were clean but water fluctuated between hot and cold. On a quiet side street but lots of shops and restaurants nearby, 5-10 minute walk from the subway.

Had an enjoyable stay here. Was in an easy location to get to by metro from sightseeing, however the long alley was a little inconvenient. The Great Wall booking service was easy and affordable. There is food available there however we found it slightly overpriced. Nice courtyard and had no problem with the small outdoor walk to the shower. Really great service from reception, as they spoke perfect English and were happy to help with anything we needed. Overall great experience, would go again.

Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel says

I think we're in the perfect location. Guests can visit the Forbidden City, Beihai Park, Houhai Bar Street, and White Pagoda Temple within half an hour's walk. I recommend visiting some interesting places preferred by locals, such as Tea Street and Zhong Guan Cun, also known as Beijing's 'Silicon Valley'.
In my opinion, one of our most unique features is our social dinners. Every week we organize BBQs on Mondays, family dinners on Wednesdays and dumpling parties on Fridays. All guests like learning how to make the traditional Chinese dumpling. Each afternoon, we always do tea ceremony for guests and introduce some local Chinese culture. Leoson, Owner
