Hostelworld says

Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel was rated the best in China at the 2011 Hoscars and it's not difficult to see why. They serve free dinners three times a week plus tea ceremonies and calligraphy classes on the weekends. We like that there's also free breakfast, free games and free guidebooks to borrow. The friendly staff are helpful for booking tours throughout China. This hostel is located in central Beijing, just five minutes from Xisi metro station.

Great hostel....staff was super helpful and the rooms were really nice. In probably one of the best locations in Beijing....only a few stops via metro from Tiananmen Square (and the station was only about a 10 minute walk). Highly recommend to anyone staying in Beijing. Would also recommend signing up for the daily Great Wall tour offered by the hostel. The hiking tour to the Jinshanling section was amazing and it was virtually empty except for my hiking group.

Stayed in the 4 bed female dorm that had a nice wall in between dividing the room in two smaller subrooms so it feels like you only share the room with one other person. The hostel has a very friendly and chilled atmosphere, common areas are really nice to hang out and meet people. Everything was clean and the staff is constantly working to make one's stay even more comfortable. Cannot complain!

The staff were very nice, but I have to say out of all of the Chinese Hostel’s I’ve ever been to this has to be the worst for value of money - Beijing included I.e being able to have breakfast anytime of the day, being stingy with portion sizes and then seriously overcharging for it, by Chinese standards that is. Breakfast had a time limit and stopped at 9:30am. There was also a cockroach in one toilet for over 3 days. The dorm rooms are basic. It’s an ok hostel if you don’t know any better.

Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel says

I think we're in the perfect location. Guests can visit the Forbidden City, Beihai Park, Houhai Bar Street, and White Pagoda Temple within half an hour's walk. I recommend visiting some interesting places preferred by locals, such as Tea Street and Zhong Guan Cun, also known as Beijing's 'Silicon Valley'.
In my opinion, one of our most unique features is our social dinners. Every week we organize BBQs on Mondays, family dinners on Wednesdays and dumpling parties on Fridays. All guests like learning how to make the traditional Chinese dumpling. Each afternoon, we always do tea ceremony for guests and introduce some local Chinese culture. Leoson, Owner
