Amazing hostel! The staff were so friendly and helpful, the facilities were very clean and gave you a good amount of space. Heads up that the locker for your valuable is a bit small (definitely couldn't fit a whole suitcase in it as with some facilities) but there is under-bed storage for luggage so as long as you're okay with that it's not a problem. Again cannot say enough about how lovely and helpful the staff were.

Great location very near to the subway. I was able to walk to forbidden city and Tiananmen Square although it might be far for some people. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I missed my check out time but they didn’t give me any trouble for it.

It has the typical ancient China hutong set up: separate buildings for each bedroom dorm, separate office building, building for the shower/laundry room and a small building with toilets. All are surrounding a small courtyard. I had a the very basic dorm and it was great! The shower room is really nice. This hostel is in an ancient alleyway, so your taxi driver may not want to drive into it (very narrow). Walk in the alley for about 6 minutes - the hostel doors are big and red. Very safe & quiet

I loved my stay at the Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel. It is a good location as it is very close to the metro and the rooms are very cosy, and it also has the best receptionist, Jutta! Jutta is very helpful and happy and she makes the environment very enjoyable. The food was good and the common area was a nice area to meet people. I would strongly recommend the Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel!! If you get a chance, stay here and become friends with Jutta - you will not regret it.

Absolutely loved this place! It's right in the heart of the city, close to places like the Imperial Palace, Temple of Heaven, Beihai and more. The staff are super friendly and chill, and everything is clean but relaxed. I never felt unsafe in the hostel or in the vicinity, and there are lockers for your valuables. I would definitely book here again and I would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking to cheaply travel to Beijing.

Very nice staff and delicious noodles for breakfast. If you want to get a feeling of the traditional hutong lifestyle this is the perfect Hostel to stay in. We booked our single room in December. Beijing is very cold in winter and the chinese box courtyard hostel is not well heated, since its a very old building. The only way to get your room hot is to use the air conditioner. The hot water in our shower unfortunately wasn’t consistent. To conclude the room was very cozy and we felt welcomed.

Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel says

I think we're in the perfect location. Guests can visit the Forbidden City, Beihai Park, Houhai Bar Street, and White Pagoda Temple within half an hour's walk. I recommend visiting some interesting places preferred by locals, such as Tea Street and Zhong Guan Cun, also known as Beijing's 'Silicon Valley'.
In my opinion, one of our most unique features is our social dinners. Every week we organize BBQs on Mondays, family dinners on Wednesdays and dumpling parties on Fridays. All guests like learning how to make the traditional Chinese dumpling. Each afternoon, we always do tea ceremony for guests and introduce some local Chinese culture. Leoson, Owner
