Overview

City Hostel - Central Station is a cool subterranean building with a light and airy feel thanks to its clever design and glass roof. And there's always a good beat! Soft music piped throughout the hostel – even the bathrooms – contributes to that laid-back, friendly atmosphere we're famous for. From October to March you'll get a free breakfast – you'll also find equipment in the kitchen to prepare meals after a day exploring Gamla Stan (the old town). Finish off your lunch with a free coffee in our common room or check out what's happening in the city tomorrow using our free Wi-Fi.

Location

Stockholm is a small city, so you can explore most sights on foot. City Hall (famous for the Nobel prize ceremonies) is a 13-minute walk along the river, while the Royal Palace (official residence of the Swedish monarch) is just a few minutes further on. Make like the Swedes and stop for cinnamon rolls on the way! From Arlanda Airport, you'll catch the express train to Central Station (just 20 minutes) and from there, it's a 12-minute walk across the river to us.

Rooms and Dorms

A good night's sleep is essential for making the most of your trip, so we have private rooms for light sleepers (also with cable TV). Or you can go for a classic choice in a mixed dorm with a reading light on each bunk. We provide free bed linen and have towels to rent, meaning you can pack light – ideal since the in-room lockers comfortably fit a rucksack. Buy a padlock from us if you don't have one.

Extras and activities

Sit back with a book from our library or pile in front of the TV for a movie night. Made some new besties already? Organise a Netflix marathon in your room together! The rooms and social areas all have air con for those lovely warm summer months.

Being able to store our stuff at the hostel after our check out time was a great bonus. We had a free day before an evening flight and didn't want to lug everything with us around town. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Fantastic hostel - well run, clean, spacious and with all the facilities you would need. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Location is ideal - a short walk to a number of attractions and with a 7-Eleven right on the doorstep for essentials. On my last night the hostel allowed me to pay the difference to move to a private room as I had an early flight to catch - probably the nicest hostel private room I've stayed in, complete with TV.

Excellent location, as only 10-15 minutes walk to the central stations. Everything was modern and clean, and room was blackout, so it aided a good night's sleep. Staff were very friendly and approachable, and all facilities worked a treat. It was a bit on the pricey side for a hostel, but then as we learned everything was very expensive for what it was in Stockholm!

Nice hostel to stay at. A bit away from the center and Gamal Stan (old town), but about 10-15 min walk to the bus and train station. Big lockers inside the room. Lots of people were in the kitchen and common areas and were friendly. Be aware about late check in, as you’ll need to let them know ahead of time as reception hours are really short. Good stay for a good price.

    Fabulous

Large hostel with good communal areas. The rooms are pretty basic, but absolutely fine. My main criticism is the beds and some of the doors are really quite squeaky, so I would recommend earplugs if you want any chance of a good nights sleep. Staff are friendly and helpful, but reception is limited hours. Not too much happening in the direct area, but the centre is a short journey on public transport which is good! Overall a pretty reasonable place to stay :)

    Very Good

    05 Jul 2019
The woman who greeted us was very kind and helpful, and directed us to some areas of interest on the map. It is about a 7 minute walk to the nearest subway which is the best way to get around. 15 minute walk along a river to city hall and about 25-30 minute walk to Gamla Stan (Old town with Palace and such.) If you are a big museum fan, I would recommend staying elsewhere as it took about an hour or more on average to get to that area (no subways go in that direction without waiting for a boat.)

    Good

Very noisy beds and doors making it difficult to sleep and not to wake others. Atmosphere is non-existent, because most people who come here don't want to talk or be nice. Huge age difference as well (6-75). Woman receptionist was very nice, man not at all. Camera's everywhere makes it feel secure but also like you're being watched all the time made me feel uneasy (personal preference). Bring own lock for lockers. Beware that you cannot store luggage after 17:30.

City Hostel - Central Station says

We think guests most appreciate our friendly staff and the outstanding location. It's very convenient to walk to/from the Central Station and the City Terminal (with flight buses and trains) to our hostel. Our guests also appreciate that City Hostel is a quiet place where you can get a good night's sleep. The music in the bathrooms is appreciated as well as the cleanliness of the facility.
The City Hall (known for the Noble Prize festivities) is a few minutes' walk along the water and the Old Town with the Royal Castle is another few minutes away from the City Hall. But the best area is downtown! We recommend all our guests to explore Stockholm by foot with City Hostel as starting point. Our city is not that big, so you can see many sights by walking and at the same time enjoy the clean, safe and beautiful city of Stockholm.
Our main age group actually varies a lot; the majority are between 20-35 though. For fun they meet other guests and get together for a day or evening out in town. Since the mood of the hostel is very 'easy going', people read books, surf the web or just chill!  Erik, Owner/Manager
