We love this Hostel!

It gets our thumbs up for consistently high guest reviews.

Hostelworld says

Cocomama was voted the best in the Netherlands at the 2011 Hoscars and it's not hard to see why-guests have said this boutique hostel is 'the opposite to the big corporate hostels that lack character', with clean, newly furnished rooms 'done up to the small detail'. Hostelworld reviewers tell us the staff 'love their city [and] will give you all the info you need on where to go', making this hostel feel 'like a home away from home'. We particularly like the resident cat and the large back garden.

Property Description

Cocomama offers the best of both worlds in a super central location in Amsterdam. The luxury and comfort of a hotel and the atmosphere (and budget) of a hostel.

The rooms are all Holland themed and range from private doubles to 6-bed dorms (and everything in between). You might share a bathroom in some of the dorms, but those luxurious mattresses and feather duvets are everywhere.

Even more importantly, at MAMA, you're not on your own. Travel stories are shared, as is the dinner table. It’s a place where you’ll make friends and hang out with other international trotters alike in the private garden or common room, or perhaps cook dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen (perfect to keep costs down). And if that doesn’t keep you busy enough, the staff organise tonnes of activities including movie nights, drink nights, games nights and family dinners!

Please read our T&Cs below before booking, so there are no surprises! View House Rules

Amazing hostel I couldn’t fault it. The staff work hard to make you feel comfortable and you get an authentic experience. Joey is an awesome manager and made my stay. Thanks so much to all the staff. The breakfast is also really good with yum museli, fruit and eggs or pancakes. Can’t recommend enough.

My favorite hostel so far. The staff was very helpful. I lost the key to my lock pad and they were able to help me get into the locker by using an electric saw. Thank you so much for going above and beyond for my needs.

Really nice hostel in the middle of amstedam it is quite expensive but I believe that's the going rate for a night in a Dam hostel. Staff extremely helpful throughout our stay. Beds comfy and private due to curtains. Big window that can open up to allow air in. Large lockers also helps with security. Bathroom was cramped but hey, nowhere is perfect! Overall I slept extremely well at this hostel and met some lovely people. Would stay again if i came back to Dam. Thanks Mama!

I felt so well-looked after, and the Cococmama crew were welcoming, competent, fun and clearly love Amsterdam! The building, back garden, beds and breakfast all suited me very well. I had two great days and nights in Amsterdam, and Cocomama was a big part of it.

staff is very welcoming and helpful! conveniently located near transportation and around a cute neighborhood with lots of cafes/restaurants. Walkable to museum district. It's a bit away from the center but I actually preferred this neighborhood! Stairs only and no elevators fyi. bed was comfortable and there's curtain for privacy. a bit run down than imagined from the photos, but it was fine. well-stocked common area and great value. there's a backyard too. met some good people! i will be back.

Cocomama hostel was great! I was a little nervous after reading reviews of bedbugs but I found the place to be very clean and free of any bugs. Staff was easygoing and helpful and had great recommendations. My only complaint is there was no soap in the bathroom, even for hand washing, and there was a fee to use a locker and towel. It’s the first time I’ve had to pay for those items at a hostel. Regardless, I would stay here again!

Overall nice hostel, a bit far away from everything but if you appreciate some peace that's a good thing...not a particularly social vibe in the common area although it may have been a matter of luck with who was staying. Comfortable beds and rooms cleaned regularly.

My friend and I ended up completely covered in bed bug bites--about 50-100 bites each. I emailed the hostel asking for a refund. After admitting the problem, they said that they could only refund us 50% as we had access to the kitchen and bathroom etc. In addition, I had asked about secure bike storage as we had brought expensive touring bikes. We were assured that we could park our bikes in the garden. However, when we arrived we were told that we were not allowed due to our leaving early.

What puts us ahead of the rest is our many little extras, like cheap bike rental, private hostel boat tours, our cuddly hostel cat Joop and the free pasta, rice, oil, spices and coffee/tea in the kitchen! For fun our guests join in on one of our many activities, like Tight Ass Tuesday (beer and pasta for â'¬3), movie night, the booze cruise, Nintento NES battles and more. Our hostel is run and owned by young, energetic ladies with outstanding local knowledge of Amsterdam. We especially recommend that people go biking or boating through Amsterdam - it gives you a total different and local view of the city.
We're also close to Albert Cuyp Market (two minutes' walk), the Heineken Brewery (five minutes' walk), Museum Square (5-10 minutes' walk) and the bars, restaurants and clubs of Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein (10 minutes' walk). Anika, Owner/Manager
