We had a very pleasant stay at drake bay backpackers hostel. Marvin and his family are very lovely and excellent hosts that at the end we almost did not want to leave. Because of its remote location, the hostel is perfect for a relaxed and meditating stay. Although the transportation to the hostel lasts about 25 minutes, don't be afraid of being in the middle of nowhere. The walk to the beach is very beautiful and does not last long. Marvin offers tours and is always ready for playing yatzee ;-)

AWESOME PLACE. Marvin is a great host who we learned a lot from and had a great time with. We even played cards and hung out all night. Watch out. It's hard to get to with a 2 wheel drive and make sure you get there well before dark. It's a tough drive up especially with a manual car. Lots of nature, great guests, awesome facilities, great people in the area and even the pets are personable. Go, seriously.

I really liked my stay here, the volunteers and the owners were all really nice and helpful with tourbooking and showing around. Great meal cooked for dinner if you don’t want to cook on your own. I loved the location, because it’s out of the civilisation but you can still get to the beach in 30 minutes. The dorm was cool since you kind of get your privateroom, theres always one bunkbed behind a curten so you basically have your own room. Wifi didnt work too well but alright.

Highly recommend this hostel. It's a very social place and it's easy to meet other travellers. Loved the hammocks! Transportation from and to Drakebay is easy, as it's always well organized by Marvin, the owner. He is the kind of guy, that you just have to like. You should definetely join him and his family for dinner. Bidian, his wife, is a great cook. Although we only stayed for 3 nights, it felt like coming home, when we got back from our daily activities.

Loved this hotel. The people that run it are great, super helpful and really make you feel at home. Note that the location is not in Drake Bay itself, but in a small village 20 mins away by car so it is quite rural which is great if thats what you are looking for.

The wonderful helpful staff and volunteers made our stay exceptionally enjoyable. They were there for us whether we wanted to book a tour in Corcovado or a snorkeling trip. They also had great recommendations for local hikes.

Drake Bay Backpackers was an overall great hostel to stay at, however it was all too far from the beach and town of Las Agujitas. Marvin y esposa are wonderful and they provide a wealth of information about the area and connect travelers with tours. They offer meals for $6 which are so good! Lots of company at night, and also many board games to play. Comfy hammocks. Chill vibes. Clean facilities.

The hostel is REALLY out of the way. If you want a rural experience then awesome, go for it, but it can be difficult and expensive to get to anything from here. The staff is great and there is a small store not too far away with a decent selection of food. However, DO NOT SCHEDULE YOIR SNORKELING TOUR THROUGH THEM. They send you with Picolina Tours who is one of the most expensive in the area and we had terrible service with them.

Best staff in Costa Rica! Remote location, 25-30 dollar taxi ride to the hostel from the boat drop off. Not a lot of reasons to be in Drake bay unless you’re going to the National park or doing paid activities which are very expensive 90 dollars and upwards. Marvin showed me a good day walk from the hostel to the beach and back - was nice :) No atms but many places accept card payments
