Hostelworld says

Hostelworld guests have had high praise for Duo Housing DC, saying 'the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere fosters a welcoming community'. This hostel has a very home-like atmosphere, with free Wi-Fi and internet, a study area, free towels and even a guest phone. We like their no-shoes policy, contributing to a clean, secure, friendly house.

Property Description

Everything is all brand-new - we've got new bathrooms and a new media room!

We also have the cleanest rooms in DC because we have a policy of no shoes in the house and no food/eating in the guest rooms.

Check out what makes Duo Housing the #1 choice for students, travellers, and interns!

Interning or moving to Washington DC? Just exploring the United States Capitol? We're convenient to public transportation. This is the perfect housing alternative for international students and interns in any of the cities we service!

We're located just 15 minutes to the US Capitol and just five minutes to Chinatown and are surrounded by cafés, stores, shopping, and nightlife.

There's also free coffee and tea as well as free kitchen utensils if you want to cook for yourself.

Room rates include free bed linen, free bath towels, free maid service and a free lockable locker - bring your own lock!

There's also free Wi-Fi, free Internet, free computer usage, free use of our Nintendo Wii and free house events!

...and, of course, free meeting new friends. :) The big city is intimidating to new guests, but you can plan on making some great new friends. Many of our guests end up becoming friends and getting apartments together!

Duo Housing is designed to encourage interaction among our guests as much as possible. Our rooms are shared, as are the bathroom facilities, kitchens, and living rooms. The living room (or social room) has a huge 42' flat-screen TV, all the premium cable TV channels, DVD player, and a phone to call anywhere in the continental US.

Need some down time? There's a separate quiet study area, too.

What makes us different? The biggest difference is our hostels were started by people just like you and are run by people with needs just like yours. So instead of coming home from school or your internship to an impersonal warehouse of beds, you feel like you're coming home - you're staying with people who fast become your friends; you cook with people from all over the world; you get to learn and experience the city first-hand with friends.

Our friendly staff are on duty 24 hours a day to help you with anything you might need, whether it's directions or restaurant suggestions. This also means there's no lockout, you can check in anytime and there's security on the property 24/7.

Please note that we do not accept guests under the age of 18. All guests in a party must be over the age of 18.

Duo Housing and all affiliates are not responsible for any actions of the guests and their parties during their stay.

Overview

With cosy rustic décor, free breakfasts and friendly staff, our Duo Housing DC hostel is a real home base in the US capital. Take it easy with a game of chess in our cosy lounge, or make the most of the free Wi-Fi to catch up with family in our study. Our rooftop deck is the place to be on sunny days, with views across the DC skyline – make sure to snap a selfie with your brand-new travel companions.

Location

We're in the centre of Washington DC, just a 20-minute walk from the White House. Our neighbourhood – Logan Circle – is one of the trendiest areas around. 14th Street is just a few blocks away, where you'll find craft beer bars, hip restaurants and boutiques selling quirky home goods. If you fly into Washington Dulles International Airport, you can get to us in just over an hour using public transport.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got three types of mixed dorms: basic, superior and deluxe. The superior rooms are in a separate, more peaceful building, and the deluxe ones have their own private bathrooms and kitchens attached. Every room is set up with free bed linen, towels and maid service. You also get your own locker – just bring along a padlock to keep your stuff secure. You might want to pack some slippers, too: we have a 'no shoe' policy so you can always enjoy a clean crash pad.

Extras and activities

Every Sunday we have a pizza and movie night – drop in for some much-needed downtime during your trip. On top of serving up breakfast, we also have free coffee and tea all day. Grab a mug of strong brew and a novel from our book exchange for a chilled-out afternoon. With our late check-out, you can sleep in if you want to so you're geared up to discover DC's super chic cocktail bars.

My second stay was as nice as the first. You can walk to downtown sights, and buses and metro are close. Beds are quite comfortable. Roommates were quiet and considerate, and I had lots of conversations in the common rooms. Staff are friendly and the pancake breakfasts are great. Bathrooms are functional; never had to wait for a shower, and the shower water was hot (but water pressure needs improvement). Letting me store my backpack before and after my stay was a big plus.

We spent 2 nights here and our experience was more than good! We really liked the environment, the staff and the plans that every night AZ organized to do. I would really recommend it if you are staying with your group of friends!

    Fabulous

I stayed at Duo Housing from Thurs afternoon Feb 20 to Fri morning Feb 21, 2020 and I roomed with someone I had never met before. We did get along though and he told me about some nice places to eat including El Rinconcito which serves Tex-Mex and El Salvadorean cuisine(dishes range $4-20). Also, Yeet and Mariana helpfully answered my questions; the bathroom, common room and kitchen were clean, and breakfast was good. I wish I could have stayed longer but MD residents can stay for 1d/month.

My stay at duo was good, people were friendly and helpful and the place was generally clean, but certain areas could use some upkeep. I do wish there had been some more privacy for the bunks, but no real complaints. The location is absolutely perfect

Everything was great: the price, the staff, except some things. 1. The room was COLD like the heat was completely off. They offer extra blankets but still. 2. The staff was slightly arguing at some point in front of guests & I think that was unprofessional. But other than those things, I would highly recommend!

When I arrived on the first day, I had to wait 20mins just to check in and I rang the bell like 20 times. The staffs were friendly (especially the red hair girl), and except for the tall guy with glasses, he was very rude. The location was okay its just that there weren’t many buses but its still close to the capitol. I felt like the dorm was very dirty, and the dorm ceiling was leaking because someone clogged something from the bathroom! YUCK! I am booking at HI Washington next time!

Owner was cool. Showers were good. The rest of the staff was unhelpful and even annoyed that I was there. When I checked in it was like I was expected to know everything. The woman said she was waiting for me 'to be done' indignantly after I waited for her for ~10 minutes without ever showing me what to sign. No one at the desk in the morning; I called and she said she wouldn't help me until after breakfast. Needs more/better staff. There are no locks on individual rooms so security is lacking.

Bad wifi. No lockers. No windows in the room. Unable to turn off the central heating + no window = a sauna in a cramped and smelly room. No common areas. Staff extremely rude. The are two separate hostels under the same name. No cash accepted. Awful hostel. Worst experience ever. Will never ever go back there again. Unfortunately there are not too many hostels in DC.

Duo Housing DC says

I think what really makes us special is our extras, particularly the comprehensive map tour given by one of our friendly, multi-lingual, knowledgeable resident assistants. They give a lot of great suggestions for things like their favourite Smithsonian Museums, their favourite places to eat inexpensively or where to get the most beautiful photos of the skyline. We also give each guest a house tour to acquaint them with our property in an effort to make them feel comfortable and welcome.
We strive to make this each guest's home-away-from-home and endeavour to make guests feel at home, as if they're staying with friends rather than in an impersonal environment.
The National Mall, where all of the Smithsonian Museums and national monuments are located, is about a 20-minute walk from our property. Personally I recommend that all of our guests make sure to stop by Georgetown Cupcake-they won a national cupcake contest!
We have activities planned for almost every day of the week, like Movie Night, American Football Night, Bingo Night, etc. Our staff have also compiled a list of fun things to do and fun places to visit that we've arranged by neighbourhood. Plus there's an announcement board with a daily-updated list of fun things going on in town. This always includes something cultural, something for food and drinks and something just for fun.
