Hostelworld says

Hostelworld guests have had high praise for Duo Housing DC, saying 'the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere fosters a welcoming community'. This hostel has a very home-like atmosphere, with free Wi-Fi and internet, a study area, free towels and even a guest phone. We like their no-shoes policy, contributing to a clean, secure, friendly house.

Property Description

Everything is all brand-new - we've got new bathrooms and a new media room!

We also have the cleanest rooms in DC because we have a policy of no shoes in the house and no food/eating in the guest rooms.

Check out what makes Duo Housing the #1 choice for students, travellers, and interns!

Interning or moving to Washington DC? Just exploring the United States Capitol? We're convenient to public transportation. This is the perfect housing alternative for international students and interns in any of the cities we service!

We're located just 15 minutes to the US Capitol and just five minutes to Chinatown and are surrounded by cafés, stores, shopping, and nightlife.

There's also free coffee and tea as well as free kitchen utensils if you want to cook for yourself.

Room rates include free bed linen, free bath towels, free maid service and a free lockable locker - bring your own lock!

There's also free Wi-Fi, free Internet, free computer usage, free use of our Nintendo Wii and free house events!

...and, of course, free meeting new friends. :) The big city is intimidating to new guests, but you can plan on making some great new friends. Many of our guests end up becoming friends and getting apartments together!

Duo Housing is designed to encourage interaction among our guests as much as possible. Our rooms are shared, as are the bathroom facilities, kitchens, and living rooms. The living room (or social room) has a huge 42' flat-screen TV, all the premium cable TV channels, DVD player, and a phone to call anywhere in the continental US.

Need some down time? There's a separate quiet study area, too.

What makes us different? The biggest difference is our hostels were started by people just like you and are run by people with needs just like yours. So instead of coming home from school or your internship to an impersonal warehouse of beds, you feel like you're coming home - you're staying with people who fast become your friends; you cook with people from all over the world; you get to learn and experience the city first-hand with friends.

Our friendly staff are on duty 24 hours a day to help you with anything you might need, whether it's directions or restaurant suggestions. This also means there's no lockout, you can check in anytime and there's security on the property 24/7.

Please note that we do not accept guests under the age of 18. All guests in a party must be over the age of 18.

Duo Housing and all affiliates are not responsible for any actions of the guests and their parties during their stay.

The only reason for lower rating on cleanliness and facilities is that it was a much older building which is more difficult to keep looking like new. Staff was great; location was central; and we basically had all the essentials.

AZ and Serenity and staff are awesome and made sure I felt very welcomed. Friendly and super accommodating. Atmosphere can be hit or miss. There’s a living room for hanging out, which is decent. But since there are some people staying there for longer than a few days, not everyone is down to go out to party on a weekday, sightsee, etc. But regardless, it was still possible to meet people! My only complaint is I wish the bedroom doors had locks. Good location. Would stay again!

Duo Housing is a really good option in Washington DC, 20 minutes by walk from the main DC attractions, the staff is cool in particular the blond girl, she is really kind and talkative, just to mention that my bed wasn’t so clean, and in the building were I stayed u can only use the kitchen until 10pm, but for the rest all was perfect, for sure I will recommend it 🤙🏼

Duo Housing DC is in a great location and is a great value for the money. The facilities are sufficient, but a bit cramped. Overall, the neighborhood makes it worth it and there is a DC metro stop a few blocks away, making travel in and around the city easy and convenient.

Really nice hostel close to the city center, but some services can be improved. It can be useful add some cabinet for leaving the bags to avoid them to be on the common floor and mess with other people's bags. add air-dryer at least in every floor and not just one in all the hostel. add hangers in the bathroom and maybe also free shower soap.

Decent hostel, facilities-wise. Way too many rules though and you kinda get the feeling that the staff don’t want you there which creates a kinda tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. Also the first hostel I’ve ever been to where you’ve gotta wear a mask at all times, which seems crazy. (Not anti-mask but enforcing that rule in a living-space is absurd). Overall a good place if you’ve got things to do during the day and only come back to sleep at night. Wouldn’t recommend for nomads though.

Funny smell in building. Decent enough but not great. Clean enough for hostel. Wouldn’t want to hang out here. Just use bathroom, sleep and be out. It’s cheap but feel that attracts people don’t want to be sharing a room with.

Outside location, nothing to call home about it. Over-priced, Rundown building, bad neighborhood, at times one wonder whether we are in Africa. I did not dear to walk at night time. I have been at luxury hotels/hostels in Europe compare this one, Venetian hostel New building $20/night, At DuoHousing I paid very close to $40/night.

Duo Housing DC says

I think what really makes us special is our extras, particularly the comprehensive map tour given by one of our friendly, multi-lingual, knowledgeable resident assistants. They give a lot of great suggestions for things like their favourite Smithsonian Museums, their favourite places to eat inexpensively or where to get the most beautiful photos of the skyline. We also give each guest a house tour to acquaint them with our property in an effort to make them feel comfortable and welcome.
We strive to make this each guest's home-away-from-home and endeavour to make guests feel at home, as if they're staying with friends rather than in an impersonal environment.
The National Mall, where all of the Smithsonian Museums and national monuments are located, is about a 20-minute walk from our property. Personally I recommend that all of our guests make sure to stop by Georgetown Cupcake-they won a national cupcake contest!
We have activities planned for almost every day of the week, like Movie Night, American Football Night, Bingo Night, etc. Our staff have also compiled a list of fun things to do and fun places to visit that we've arranged by neighbourhood. Plus there's an announcement board with a daily-updated list of fun things going on in town. This always includes something cultural, something for food and drinks and something just for fun.
