Hostelworld says

Hostelworld guests have had high praise for Duo Housing DC, saying 'the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere fosters a welcoming community'. This hostel has a very home-like atmosphere, with free Wi-Fi and internet, a study area, free towels and even a guest phone. We like their no-shoes policy, contributing to a clean, secure, friendly house.

Property Description

Everything is all brand-new - we've got new bathrooms and a new media room!

We also have the cleanest rooms in DC because we have a policy of no shoes in the house and no food/eating in the guest rooms.

Check out what makes Duo Housing the #1 choice for students, travellers, and interns!

Interning or moving to Washington DC? Just exploring the United States Capitol? We're convenient to public transportation. This is the perfect housing alternative for international students and interns in any of the cities we service!

We're located just 15 minutes to the US Capitol and just five minutes to Chinatown and are surrounded by cafés, stores, shopping, and nightlife.

There's also free coffee and tea as well as free kitchen utensils if you want to cook for yourself.

Room rates include free bed linen, free bath towels, free maid service and a free lockable locker - bring your own lock!

There's also free Wi-Fi, free Internet, free computer usage, free use of our Nintendo Wii and free house events!

...and, of course, free meeting new friends. :) The big city is intimidating to new guests, but you can plan on making some great new friends. Many of our guests end up becoming friends and getting apartments together!

Duo Housing is designed to encourage interaction among our guests as much as possible. Our rooms are shared, as are the bathroom facilities, kitchens, and living rooms. The living room (or social room) has a huge 42' flat-screen TV, all the premium cable TV channels, DVD player, and a phone to call anywhere in the continental US.

Need some down time? There's a separate quiet study area, too.

What makes us different? The biggest difference is our hostels were started by people just like you and are run by people with needs just like yours. So instead of coming home from school or your internship to an impersonal warehouse of beds, you feel like you're coming home - you're staying with people who fast become your friends; you cook with people from all over the world; you get to learn and experience the city first-hand with friends.

Our friendly staff are on duty 24 hours a day to help you with anything you might need, whether it's directions or restaurant suggestions. This also means there's no lockout, you can check in anytime and there's security on the property 24/7.

Please note that we do not accept guests under the age of 18. All guests in a party must be over the age of 18.

Duo Housing and all affiliates are not responsible for any actions of the guests and their parties during their stay.

Take it easy with a game of chess in our cosy lounge, or make the most of the free Wi-Fi to catch up with family in our study. Our rooftop deck is the place to be on sunny days, with views across the DC skyline – make sure to snap a selfie with your brand-new travel companions.

Location

We're in the centre of Washington DC, just a 20-minute walk from the White House. Our neighbourhood – Logan Circle – is one of the trendiest areas around. 14th Street is just a few blocks away, where you'll find craft beer bars, hip restaurants and boutiques selling quirky home goods. If you fly into Washington Dulles International Airport, you can get to us in just over an hour using public transport.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got three types of mixed dorms: basic, superior and deluxe. The superior rooms are in a separate, more peaceful building, and the deluxe ones have their own private bathrooms and kitchens attached. Every room is set up with free bed linen, towels and maid service. You also get your own locker – just bring along a padlock to keep your stuff secure. You might want to pack some slippers, too: we have a 'no shoe' policy so you can always enjoy a clean crash pad.

Extras and activities

Every Sunday we have a pizza and movie night – drop in for some much-needed downtime during your trip. On top of serving up breakfast, we also have free coffee and tea all day. Grab a mug of strong brew and a novel from our book exchange for a chilled-out afternoon. With our late check-out, you can sleep in if you want to so you're geared up to discover DC's super chic cocktail bars.

Blown away by the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the accommodations. I felt at home right away and met a few other cool people! It was easy to get in for rest, even at the latest hours of night, and the surrounding neighborhood is comfortable and quiet enough at night.

Pancake breakfast was great - might have been nice to have some jam or peanut butter packets for toast for a bit of variety. The location is good, a bit of a walk to the national mall, but easy access to metros and busses to shorten the distance. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is good and the hostel feels very safe.

    Very Good

Good hostel, with a good pancake breakfast ! Nice rooftop area, relatively good facilities and equipment in kitchens. Down side is that there are not enough bathrooms compared to the number of beds. Some rooms are without windows... Staff is really nice, helpful and present 24/7 (however I was checked in by someone who didn't know what she was doing, did not give me a tour, nor mention breakfast, and told me she would bring towels but she never did...) But overall not bad and will come back.

Lovely, welcoming staff. The hostel itself is very congested with old furniture. When I was there, there were many old people who seemed to be in their 50s but there were some young people too which made me feel a bit comfortable.

I looked at reviews before picking this hostel and people had such nice things to say about it. I was quite disappointed. I was in a mixed dorm (which I suppose I did not realize meant boys and girls and that’s my vault). I don’t really like this situation but some people might. Just make note! The A/C was broken in the top floor and in my room the 2nd night. Woke up in a pool of Sweat. There are no locks to the bedroom doors. The door just kinda stays cracked which felt kinda Unsafe.

1.) the security worked a little too well. The door had to be opened by a staff member and often they weren’t there to open the door. 2.) as a young woman, it made me uncomfortable to find that most of my roommates were older men. I was harassed by one of these men and felt uncomfortable going to the room at night 3.) facilities were lacking. The AC broke in 95 degree heat, and when the AC was working, the vents were dripping on my bed. I told a staff member, but nothing was done

They take forever to come and assist you when you first arrive. Yes, they make everyone take their shoes off but in turn it makes the buildings smell like feet. It’s an old building so all the facilities are old. During my stay the electricity went out and we didn’t have lights or air conditioning. Definitely the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. There was no breakfast being made because the manager was trying to figure out the electricity problem.

Duo Housing DC says

I think what really makes us special is our extras, particularly the comprehensive map tour given by one of our friendly, multi-lingual, knowledgeable resident assistants. They give a lot of great suggestions for things like their favourite Smithsonian Museums, their favourite places to eat inexpensively or where to get the most beautiful photos of the skyline. We also give each guest a house tour to acquaint them with our property in an effort to make them feel comfortable and welcome.
We strive to make this each guest's home-away-from-home and endeavour to make guests feel at home, as if they're staying with friends rather than in an impersonal environment.
The National Mall, where all of the Smithsonian Museums and national monuments are located, is about a 20-minute walk from our property. Personally I recommend that all of our guests make sure to stop by Georgetown Cupcake-they won a national cupcake contest!
We have activities planned for almost every day of the week, like Movie Night, American Football Night, Bingo Night, etc. Our staff have also compiled a list of fun things to do and fun places to visit that we've arranged by neighbourhood. Plus there's an announcement board with a daily-updated list of fun things going on in town. This always includes something cultural, something for food and drinks and something just for fun.
