Hostelworld says

Hostelworld guests have had high praise for Duo Housing DC, saying 'the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere fosters a welcoming community'. This hostel has a very home-like atmosphere, with free Wi-Fi and internet, a study area, free towels and even a guest phone. We like their no-shoes policy, contributing to a clean, secure, friendly house.

Property Description

Everything is all brand-new - we've got new bathrooms and a new media room!

We also have the cleanest rooms in DC because we have a policy of no shoes in the house and no food/eating in the guest rooms.

Check out what makes Duo Housing the #1 choice for students, travellers, and interns!

Interning or moving to Washington DC? Just exploring the United States Capitol? We're convenient to public transportation. This is the perfect housing alternative for international students and interns in any of the cities we service!

We're located just 15 minutes to the US Capitol and just five minutes to Chinatown and are surrounded by cafés, stores, shopping, and nightlife.

There's also free coffee and tea as well as free kitchen utensils if you want to cook for yourself.

Room rates include free bed linen, free bath towels, free maid service and a free lockable locker - bring your own lock!

There's also free Wi-Fi, free Internet, free computer usage, free use of our Nintendo Wii and free house events!

...and, of course, free meeting new friends. :) The big city is intimidating to new guests, but you can plan on making some great new friends. Many of our guests end up becoming friends and getting apartments together!

Duo Housing is designed to encourage interaction among our guests as much as possible. Our rooms are shared, as are the bathroom facilities, kitchens, and living rooms. The living room (or social room) has a huge 42' flat-screen TV, all the premium cable TV channels, DVD player, and a phone to call anywhere in the continental US.

Need some down time? There's a separate quiet study area, too.

What makes us different? The biggest difference is our hostels were started by people just like you and are run by people with needs just like yours. So instead of coming home from school or your internship to an impersonal warehouse of beds, you feel like you're coming home - you're staying with people who fast become your friends; you cook with people from all over the world; you get to learn and experience the city first-hand with friends.

Our friendly staff are on duty 24 hours a day to help you with anything you might need, whether it's directions or restaurant suggestions. This also means there's no lockout, you can check in anytime and there's security on the property 24/7.

Please note that we do not accept guests under the age of 18. All guests in a party must be over the age of 18.

Duo Housing and all affiliates are not responsible for any actions of the guests and their parties during their stay.

Hands down best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Felt more like a shared home than a hostel. Very welcoming and pancakes were great. 8 minutes walk from nearest train station.

This was a lovely hostel to stay in! The staff and fellow travellers were very friendly, there is a daily breakfast and bar/pub trip in the evening. Facilities are good. It's a short walk to the metro or bus stop.

    Fabulous

Appreciated the great price and pancakes in the morning. The room was windowless with no fan and little ventilation, so my roommates opened the door at night to get some air in. Lights on in the hallway and could hear people in other parts of the hostel, but it was the only way for the room not to be stuffy. No outlet for my top bunk. Staff was nice and I really liked the rooftop lounge. Would consider staying here again, but would also look at other hostels in DC.

    Very Good

My stay at the hostel was a pleasant experience. I didn't stay in the main building, which was not as equipped. I would recommend making both buildings the same, because the other building is lacking a lot. the staff was friendly, and the main building was very chill. The location was great, because I was a female solo traveler and i didn't want to deal with walking long distances at night. there was also a supermarket close to the hostel.

    Good

Paid extra for a room in the separate building. The room was extremely small room with almost no room to move around, facing the streets (which got really loud at night). The bathroom was very small too (only one on each floor shared with min. of 8 people). If you stay on the top of the bunk, your charger wouldn't be able to reach any of the outlets and no extension cords were provided. You have to remove your bed sheets and pillow case yourself at checkout. The mattress was old with stains.

Duo Housing DC says

I think what really makes us special is our extras, particularly the comprehensive map tour given by one of our friendly, multi-lingual, knowledgeable resident assistants. They give a lot of great suggestions for things like their favourite Smithsonian Museums, their favourite places to eat inexpensively or where to get the most beautiful photos of the skyline. We also give each guest a house tour to acquaint them with our property in an effort to make them feel comfortable and welcome.
We strive to make this each guest's home-away-from-home and endeavour to make guests feel at home, as if they're staying with friends rather than in an impersonal environment.
The National Mall, where all of the Smithsonian Museums and national monuments are located, is about a 20-minute walk from our property. Personally I recommend that all of our guests make sure to stop by Georgetown Cupcake-they won a national cupcake contest!
We have activities planned for almost every day of the week, like Movie Night, American Football Night, Bingo Night, etc. Our staff have also compiled a list of fun things to do and fun places to visit that we've arranged by neighbourhood. Plus there's an announcement board with a daily-updated list of fun things going on in town. This always includes something cultural, something for food and drinks and something just for fun.
