We loved our stay at the Fig and Gecko. The staff are so lovely, helping us book certain activities and just there to have a chat about anything we needed. We got to sleep outside on camp-style beds which was such a fun experience. Anuradhapura was such an amazing place, and going to Minihtale (only a short bus journey away) was one of the best experiences of our trip so far. Well worth a visit.

Close to the ruins, the bike provided was very helpful. The staff was nice and helped group people with similar intentions to save money on tours. A suggestion would be to put a couch in the dining room (because Anuradhapura is hot and there are good fans in the dining room) and that could be a good hang out spot.

Owners and staff were just lovely. Such a nice, peaceful place to spend a few days! Not a ton of guests during my stay, but there are some good communal areas to use for meeting people. Also the included breakfast was a good bonus. Hope to be back again!

I was here all alone so there wasn’t much of an atmosphere but the staff is amazing. They are super helpful and really kind. They upgraded me to a private room because I was the only guest which I appreciated and gave me great advice on what to do and see as well as book tours for me. Great stay.

    Very Good

Not that well located as the hostel is on the edge of town. You will need to get tuk tuks to get around the town itself. The property itself is large and peaceful and there are plenty of communal areas to relax in but I didn't find much of a backpacker vibe here. Dorms were clean and the bathrooms were too with piping hot water for the showers. There is also a travel agency in the hostel to arrange excursions and a good breakfast is served here. Staff were friendly.

    Very Good

The post-colonial building housing the hostel has its quaint charm. The place is very clean. Hot water available only on some nights. When not there, the water pressure would also be very low, which would make washing quite hard. The cheapest 'dorm' on offer is, in fact, a cot set out on the terrace, with no roof provided whatsoever. If you go for it and it rains overnight, you will have a problem. The hostel administration did not see any issues about such having such offer.

Breakfast is quit simple, fruit is not fresh, only one egg,one banana and tpast,if u wanna anything more u gonna have to pay extra. Location is far away from the city, there is not much around this hostel,if u wanna go somewhere ,u gonna have to take yuk yuk,not bike for renting. Staff / when I was there ,the manager was not around most of time, these is only one lady always there!and she doesn’t speak any English. Room / very very creepy, old house, roof made by woods, super hot in the room,no AC!
