Welcome to the heart of Austin, where you'll find the friendly Firehouse Hostel. There's a story behind our name: our building was the longest-standing fire station in Austin, originally built in 1885. Cool right? Even cooler, since opening in 2013, we've become the largest hostel in the whole of Texas. Our attached Firehouse Lounge is a great place to meet people, sip on handcrafted cocktails or locally brewed beers, and enjoy live music. And the morning after, we'll make sure you're treated to a wholesome free breakfast.

Coming here from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport? Get MetroAirport bus 20 for just over a dollar. After about 40 minutes, you'll need to get off at Lavaca and 8th Street, and then we're an 8-minute walk from there. Easy! Once you're here, you'll be within walking distance of Austin's lively centre. We're just around the corner from historic 6th Street, known for its nightlife and music scene. If you're here for sightseeing, it'll take you just over 10 minutes to walk to the Texas State Capitol building or the Colorado River.

Rooms and Dorms

There's plenty to choose from: go for a mixed or female-only economy dorm or upgrade to a deluxe or a private room for some alone-time. The deluxe dorms have custom-made bunks with built-in lockers, and each bed has power outlets and a reading light. Whatever you choose, towels and bed linen are free, plus we'll give you not one but two pillows! All our rooms have air con and are accessible via elevator.

Extras and activities

If you haven't made any evening plans, withdraw some cash from our on-site ATM, then head through the hidden bookshelf in our lobby to discover our speakeasy-style cocktail bar. Alternatively, pop into our common room to make some new friends... then head to our kitchen areas to impress them with your cooking skills. Swing by reception – our staff are there 24/7 – to get friendly Texan-style tips on the best of Austin, and pick up a free map.

I stayed from a Thursday to Sunday in July & loved it! The staff is so helpful in giving ideas on what to do & they’re fun to hangout with, too! Shoutout to Ashley & Lili 😉 everything you need is close by or within walking/scooter distance. Yes, it gets loud at night when people go out but then quiet once they leave. I mean it’s right on 6th st so it’s expected. Don’t be afraid to strike up a convo with people in the kitchen! One regret is not checking out the bar downstairs... next time though!

Very nice, comfortable, and clean hostel in the best possible spot in austin - all the best bars and music venues are literally 20 seconds away - it was pretty quiet when I was there but that just depends on who's staying

Very good stay at the Firehouse. The location cannot be beat. Close enough to the action that you can walk there, but just off the main strip so, that you aren't disturbed by it. Advice from the owner on bars and coffee shops was greatly appreciated. He hit the nose on every one of them. If staying in a hostel again in Houston, I would definitely come back here.

Lovely little hostel in a great location - a stones throw from party-central 6th street. The atmosphere was amazing - myself and my partner made some great friends in our three days there. The only negative was maybe the shower pressure BUT the pros far outway the cons.

    Very Good

The hostel itself is in a great location downtown. However, it was very loud until 2am evem though the quiet hours posted are 12-8am. It was impossible to rest since the walls were vibrating with the sounds of the music.

**Bed bugs** I was unfortunate enough to get them and extremely badly with over 50 vicious swollen bites in room 301, including on my face, hands, feet, all across my arms and on my back. I booked a 3night stay and only stayed 2, then booked a hotel. No compensation, I was just refunded in full for my stay and they said they had moved everyone out and into private rooms and would fumigate. They do not have a bed bug zapper so spend till 3am cleaning my clothes. Everything else was fine.

It’s right on sixth street , which means in constantly noisy and there are homeless and drunk people everywhere when you walk outside. Some of the staff was friendly, others where not. It was an okay hostel if you want to party down town.

I was forced to leave the hostel early as i woke up covered in bed bug bites and finding a bed bug on my pillow in the hostel. The number of bites (around 40 in one night) suggests the infestation was significant.
