About

Welcome to the heart of downtown Austin! Firehouse Hostel is tucked just around the corner from historic 6th Street—right in the middle of the city’s music, nightlife, bars, and restaurants, but slightly removed from the noise. With an onsite cocktail lounge and a hidden speakeasy, it’s an ideal home base for exploring Austin.

Located in Austin’s oldest standing fire station (built in 1885), Firehouse Hostel is locally owned and run by travelers, for travelers. After a full renovation, we opened in 2013 and are now the largest hostel in Texas, combining historic charm with modern comfort . We’re close to major bus routes, and the airport is an easy 30-minute ride on CapMetro Route 20 for just $1.25.

We offer both private and shared rooms. Dorms feature sturdy custom bunks with lockers, outlets, and reading lights. Every stay includes two pillows per bed, free linens and towels, and fast, free Wi-Fi.

Reservations during SXSW and the month of October require a three-night minimum stay. Payment will be charged to the credit card on file two weeks prior to the event start date. No refunds will be given once payment is taken, including but not limited to cancellation of the event itself. Guests will be reminded via email before their credit card is charged. If payment is declined, the guest will be notified immediately and will have two days to contact the hostel before their reservation is automatically canceled. Reservations will be held for 24 hours after arrival date, if not checked in at that point, the reservation will be canceled without refund; no-shows will be charged a $100 fine.

Taxes not included (additional 17%), Service Fee not included (additional 3.99%). Guests must be 18 and up unless traveling with an adult. The Firehouse Lounge is limited to guests 21 and up only. Please visit our website for more detailed room descriptions.

Originally my friend and I booked a mixed dorm. We had some issues with another roommate who was particularly troublesome and sometimes aggressive. After talking to the hostel staff, they kindly moved us to our own private room free of charge. They were so understanding and helpful and i genuinely couldn’t thank them enough. The hostel itself is really nice, comfy beds, clean and decorated really funky. The location is right on 6th street, and the atmosphere is amazing if your here for partying.

For a hostel, this place was great and so close to the fun streets. The staff was super friendly and the room was clean. It's in an old building which comes with it's own quirks, like the 4th floor is up very narrow metal stairs and the ac doesn't quite reach up there like it should.
