Property Description

Welcome to the Flutterby House - your jungle beach “home” while you're exploring our beautiful slice of this planet. We are proud to be a sustainable, truly eco-friendly hostel, bar, and restaurant, located just a five-minute walk from the beautiful beaches of the Marino Ballena National Park on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast. We can help you book local tours and activities including: whale watching, snorkeling/scuba diving, whitewater rafting, surfing lessons, waterfall tours, kayaking, ziplining and more! If you’d rather explore the surrounding area on your own, we rent surfboards, boogie boards, bicycles and snorkeling gear for your convenience. Because we are proud, devoted advocates for our planet, we do not sell or provide any single-use plastic products, including bottles, straws or bags. We recycle, compost, keep chickens, grow produce, and use a biodigestor. We host educational “green tours” every Thursday, to offer our guests and community a learning opportunity for these systems. Come in for a night, a week, a drink, a meal, a surfboard, or even a hug. We look forward to welcoming you “home” to the Flutterby House.

We are located in Uvita, one of the best beaches of Costa Rica. We are just a few minutes away from the beach that is part of Marino Ballena National Park. Furthermore, there are several restaurants near to our facilities in which you can enjoy the best of the cuisine of Costa Rica.

Choose from our wide variety of accommodations to fit your lifestyle and budget. We offer comfortable and clean open-air studio apartments, cabins, tree houses and dorm beds, spread over an acre on a beautiful mango plantation. Camping and hammock space is also available. Enjoy waking up to the sounds of the waves and howler monkeys and watch the toucans, iguanas and scarlet macaws in the surrounding trees. We offer a full communal kitchen, yoga deck, bouldering wall, free Wi-Fi, full bar with daily happy hours and activities, and a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, smoothies and snacks. We also provide lockers, secure parking and a night guard for your security.

A really thoughtful and authentic hostel experience within nature. Great vibes, amazing location that is close to the beach. I rented a surf board almost every day and that worked out great. The hostel restaurant food was very good, coffee very fresh and tasty. Kitchen also well maintained!

Really enjoyed my time here so much I extended my stay twice! Good for both solo travelers and families. Right down the road from the beach/national park. Good kitchen, bathrooms/showers in the middle but cleaned and maintained constantly. Fun events at the hostel couple nights a week. Good food served there. Far from town so expect some hot/dry walks to anywhere you want to visit. Check out the local farmers market too! Staff was awesome there too! Will be back again.

Great place! Amazing atmosphere! Slept in one of the private huts with my mate. Great value for the money. BUT remember to buy groceries directly when you get of the bus-stop, or by the highway/main road when driving. Its a long walk to buy it later, so you´'ll end up spending lots of money on the (very delicious though) restaurant at the hostel, instead of using the common kitchen.

Great atmosphere! Very environmentally friendly! Not often you can sleep in a treehouse. Can be a bit noisy if you aren’t used to the jungle but to us that was part of the highlight. Food is really good, but service can be slow. Kitchen is fully stocked and there was always lots of space in the fridges. Short walk to a great beach. One of the best sunsets we saw in Costa Rica!

Loved the common area set up, food, and social atmosphere. Stayed in the loft. Wasn't a fan of not having a door on the room, and didn't realize when booking that the shared bathroom was all dorm rooms and down the ladder and across the common area.

Not bad at all, good atmosphere. Within walking distance to the beach ..can get lively at night which is nice and shops close by....I think this is one of the very few hostels in the area....but either way good value for money

They have a small locker for valuables, but all treehouse rooms are accessible to the public, as it is a popular location for travellers and locals. The staff are amazing, and very knowledgeable on the area. I would recommended renting a bike if you want to explore the town / don’t have a car, as it is hot! No A/C so prepare to sweat! Super close to the beach! They take cash and credit! Good food - try fish tacos! Make sure you have bug spray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flutterby acts like a California-style spa in Palm Springs--with a full functioning Bar & Restaurant, as well as yoga studio--more than a traditional Euro-style backpackers hostel. This became immediately apparent in the flavor of personalities you encounter w/ staff, in addition to "10 Ways to Improve The Planet" posters hanging near toilets. Despite recommendations to "go green", electricity failures were routine/frequent. Dorm security is weak, cabins need padlocks. BUYER BEWARE. SHOP AROUND!
