Property Description

COVID 19 Policy Update.
In response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), additional safety and sanitation measures are currently in effect at this property, including in-house disinfection.

Do you want to hang out in one of the most famous hostel bars, including an indoor smoking area with pillow stage?
The Flying Pig Downtown is the place to be, located right next to Amsterdam Central Station.

We have dorms where every bed has a reading light, as well as private rooms with a little fridge and TV. Rates include free linen. There are single and queen-size bunk beds as well as a shower and toilet in most of the rooms. There are also free individual lockers in the rooms; bring your own padlock or buy one at reception for just €3,50.

The Flying Pig Downtown provides free use of the guest kitchen, luggage storage, free Wi-Fi, a book exchange and a lively hostel bar with DJ nights and the cheapest beer in town. There is also a buffet style continental breakfast available everyday for only €5.

Meeting people is very easy at this hostel while chilling on lounge pillows in the smoking area, drinking and playing pool in the bar, dancing to the music of local DJs and cooking meals in the guest kitchen.

We're open 24hrs with keycard access to the hostel and there's no curfew or lock-out. You can use the safe behind reception to store small valuables. Our reception offers tours and tickets to Amsterdam's attractions as well as Piggy merchandise.

We offer a free walking tour that picks guests up from the hostel everyday, a daily updated Amsterdam agenda, and a free detailed map of Amsterdam and discounts on several things to do in the city.

Leaving the Central Station, it is just a five-minute walk to the hostel and during this walk you'll already see the many restaurants, pubs, red lights of the famous Red Light District and shops. That's the party area where you'll most likely be spending your nights.

The hostel entrance is in Amsterdam's busiest shopping street and it is a perfect place to kick-start your night of club-, pub- and coffeeshop-hopping. Besides everything the hostel offers you, our international Piggy staff can provide you with all the information you need to get the most out of the Amsterdam experience.

Close to our hostel you will find the Red Light District with its famous windows. It's very safe to walk around here and a good place to hang out when the night falls. There's also Anne Frank House which brings you back to the time of the Second World War. In this house Anne Frank and her family hid away for years, before being deported to a concentration camp. The Royal Palace is very admirable too with its spectacular 16th-century halls and rooms, and Dam Square with its musical groups, performers and other entertainers.

Please note that we do not accommodate guests under the age of 18 and a form of Photo Identification is required upon check in.
Accepted forms are a valid passport or national ID card - driving licences are NOT accepted. View House Rules

This was my first time solo-traveling to Europe and I couldn’t have been any more happy with my stay! The only thing is if it’s your first time to amsterdam it’s a little tricky getting here but just make sure you read the street names. It’s in the middle of everything so location was perfect! The bar downstairs was perfect to chill and meet people. Definitely recommend this hostel! This is my place to stay every time I visit amsterdam.

This hostel is so welcoming and clean. I loved the beds and the smoking area was nice, always had cool music playing. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I did get my AirPods stolen from my bed so friendly reminder to lock up. Anyway, great hostel highly recommend.

The bed is super comfortable and the bar area was always lively. Only criticism would be the rooms are cramped. I stayed in a 6 person dorm and there wasn’t much room to move about. Location is great

    Fabulous

The bar and smoking room were great places to meet people and I appreciated the security: key card is required to open the door, to get through an extra gate, then to get into your room. It’s in a great location right in city center with easy access to everything. My only complaint is that the rooms are very cramped and the locker under the bed becomes inaccessible because of that if you’re trying to be quiet. I also wish there were more activities organized, but that’s mostly covids fault!

    Very Good

Good hostel, centrally located, nice bar and smoking area to chill in the evening (bar open only until 12) Not the most friendly staff I ever met, no activity organized and almost no recreational facilities (only a pool table). Tv area with PS3 was closed. Some little changes would make the hostel amazing: table football, board games in smoking room, organized activities at the bar like free shots or etc. There was nothing of all this. Do not recommend for solo travelers

Hostel has great location, everything is walking distance. They have nice social area and bar with happy hours. Just, my room wasnt so clean (little bit stinky, sink was dirty) and kitchen is actually closed during the morning opening at 1pm just because they have organized breakfast, so you don't have choice to make smth your own.

Awesome location. Fun atmosphere with a busy bar and laid back smoking room. Made it pretty easy to meet people as a solo traveller, and I also appreciated that the bar was only for hostel members so it felt like more of a community (despite the huge size of the hostel). But our bathroom smelled like a port-a-potty. Truly. I had to hold my breath in it, and almost felt too grossed out to shower. There's a nice kitchen, but heads up they don't let you use it until 1 pm...

    Good

    11 Nov 2021
Great location but with very basic rooms, toilets and showers. Biggest downside: no way to get fresh air into the rooms as the windows were blocked and no AC or fan available. In times of COVID, no one wearing masks and no one checking a green pass felt unsafe and we didn't had a good sleep in a smelly and hot 12 bed room. Considering the high price compared to other hostels and even hotels I'd not recommend this one
