Property Description

New hostel, FOCUS KURAMAE was born in Kuramae in Oct, 2018.
Kuramae is called “Tokyo’s Brooklyn” and still has an atmosphere of old downtown.
This hidden area next to Asakusa, is known for its handicraft and coffee culture.
There are unique leatherworking and handicraft shops that are run by talented artisans,
and also trendy coffee stands and cafes. Perfect place to stay if you would like to travel like a local.

In this district, where good old handcrafter’s legacy still thrives,
FOCUS KURAMAE once used to be a factory for parts of cameras.
We wanted to tell the story and carry the history.
That’s why our name is “FOCUS” and our concept is photography.

Our cozy common lounge is open for 24 hrs and equipped with wifi and outlets.
Shared kitchens with basic condiments and seasonings, cafe & bar on the 1st floor to get social with other guests, there is everything you need.

Our staffs are in love with this neighborhood, so feel free to ask our staffs for recommendations around Asakusa and Kuramae.
We look forward to welcoming you soon. View House Rules

I'm a very picky person, just what people like, and I can always pick out some shortcomings. And here, I think the only downside is... Perfect! In many countries and cities, I worry about many things, such as safety and hygiene. This is very important for the experience of a city. And it did it perfectly! You can stay here with entirely trusted, including your personal belongings. The staff from Focus are very friendly, they can give you a good advice and help, so do not embarrass them.Lo

Small rooms but that has to be expected for Tokyo. Good location for access to Asakusa, Ueno & Akhihabara.

Very clean, friendly staff and also have a bar/restaurant where you get "home" made food! 10 minute walk from Asakusabashi JR station.

the location is ok - it depends where you want to go in Tokyo. If you like to go to shibuya and shinjuku, you need more than 30min to go there, however if you want to go to skytree or asakusa (senjoji temple), this is quite close. Akihabara is also not too far away. they have a nice lounge downstairs where you can sit, eat and simply hang out. the hostel was quite clean, however a big downside is that they only had one shower at each floor, so usually we had to wait until the shower is free.

Was good value for money and location. Only problem was the walls are very thin and someone decided to have a coughing fit in the bathroom at 3am.

Very beautiful and clean hostel. Although it’s a bit away from all the action in Tokyo, it’s a 1 minute walk to the station and 1 train stop away from Asakusa. The showers, room and lobby were very clean and impressive. The only critique I can give is that there lacked social space as the social space was a restaurant, but it was great otherwise.

Super clean but the single private room is tiny - if I put my suitcase on the floor in there, I could just about stand next to the bed without my feet going outside the door. There wasn't much going on at the hostel, and no-one around to socialize with. The area is dead at night and I spent a lot of time commuting from other areas. It wasn't a bad place but I didn't stay there when I returned to Tokyo.

    Very Good

The staff confessed to us once we got there that the location was not good- outside of Asakusa most everything will be a train ride away. Some staff were more helpful than others. One in particular bent the rules and gave us some towels for free- but that free towels were the exception seemed silly. The dormitory was rather quiet and respectful, and the bathrooms and shower on our floor were kept rather tidy.

Ok hostel. Dorms have reasonable privacy. Though there is a gap in the top so if you are on the top bunk other guests can see you. This is particularly annoying if someone leaves their light on. Staff were nice and made me a good curry. Just be aware that this hostel charges for everything. They even charge 200 jpy for luggage storage.
