Property Description

Freehand Miami is the hotel for today’s traveler — combining convenience (a 5-minute walk from Miami Beach, and less than 1 mile from the nightlife of South Beach) with modern comforts, like an outdoor terrace with a pool, two craft cocktail bars and a seasonal restaurant. It’s both an escape from the bustle of the strip and an ideal access point to the best of the city.

Choose from either community-style or standard guest rooms, all of which include a private bathroom, lockers, and a desk (plus cable TV in standard rooms).

The property is close to many excellent Miami bars and clubs, and our tour desk will happily curate restaurant, bar, beach, and sightseeing recommendations for you. But there are also plenty of ways of enjoy yourself at the hotel itself — from the Broken Shaker, an award-winning specialty cocktail bar with an eclectic menu that utilizes spices and fresh-pressed produce, to 27, a market-driven, globally inspired restaurant serving shrimp dumplings with chile oil, and lamb ribs slicked with tangy pomegranate molasses. Programmed events are also offered in our tropical backyard terrace. Free WiFi is available property wide.

The property is 3 minutes’ drive from the Miami Beach Convention Center and 5 minutes’ drive from Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Lincoln Road Mall is 2 miles away.

Freehand Miami is a modern hostel with awesome extras – come take a dip in our outdoor pool, or sip on a cold drink from our cocktail bar. With our designer décor, including bespoke art by Miami-based creatives, we have a cutting-edge vibe. Spend your mornings filling up on free breakfast, afternoons under the courtyard's trees scattered with fairy lights, and nights dining in our restaurant, which uses veggies grown in our own garden. Our multilingual staff will get you up to speed on all our activities, including the pop-up events and shops.

We're a 5-minute stroll from the beach and a 30 to 45-minute ride on bus 150 from Miami International Airport. It'll take you from the airport station to the corner of 27th Street and Indian Creek Drive: a block from the hostel. To check out the old-school Art Deco district, you can walk for half an hour along the boardwalk. We also have a weekly shuttle to Little Havana so you can try some authentic Cuban food in this vibrant multicultural neighbourhood.

Rooms and Dorms

Whether you want a private room or a shared dorm, we've got accommodation to suit. You'll have towels and bedding for free, plus a locker for your bags. Dorms are mixed or female-only, and they all have en-suites so you can roll out of bed and into the shower. Reading lamps come with every bunk, so you won't need to fumble around in the dark when the main light's off.

Extras and activities

Pour yourself a free iced coffee in the lobby or make a meal in the kitchen, then sit down to use the free Wi-Fi in one of our common areas to plan your day in Miami. Outside, you'll find ping-pong tables for practising your swing while enjoying the Florida sunshine (just head inside to cool off in the air con if it gets too hot). In the morning, you can greet the dawn at our sunrise yoga class.

Always loved the Freehand. Note no free breakfast anymore. Better rooms. Office was very accommodating. Cool people. Close to the beach. Great pool and patio and Broken shaker bar.

This place is truly amazing. The Staff went above and beyond to make sure that our group of four were in the same room. They actually upgraded us...on NYE!!! It was a great stay. I met so many interesting people and would definitely stay again. If most of your activities are south beach and you want to be right in the action of it, I wouldn't stay here unless you want to walk/uber a lot.

Had a wonderful week here at Freehand Miami. Like the outdoor area with an amazing pool and the guest kitchen allowing us to cook. The only inconvenience was that the washing machines were broken so we had to travel a bit far to do the laundry. But overall it’s a great stay for vacation.

    Very Good

My stay was very good! I just got the impression that the cleaning staff was not always very good at keeping guests' belongings organized. I found that sometimes the hotel would take a long time to provide towels to my room when I requested them. The rooms are clean overall. The environment is very nice and friendly. The workers were respectful to the clients. I am overall very pleased with my stay!

They have a very high quality cocktail bar in a cool pool area. However, it’s very expensive for a bed in a shared dorm, the lockers are small, the walls are thin making it hard to sleep with the people talking outside the rooms, and the beds didn’t have full privacy curtains.

PLEASE READ Do not go here, it's all the money not worth it! I stayed in a lot of hostels, but Freehand Miami is definitely too expensive for their service. The staff is nice, but no one is a native English speaker, which makes it pretty difficult to communicate. The really nice outdoor area doesn't bring you anything if you don't want to buy something. You're not allowed to sit anywhere. That sucks! The kitchen is catastrophic, the breakfast consists of cereal, toast, milk, jam and butter. Ther

There was so much awful about my stay here so I guess I’ll just do a list of pros and cons; CONS Awful and grumpy staff Not welcoming No directions given for property (eg. where the kitchen is or where the laundry is) Missing things from my room (medication I had sitting at the sink) Washing machine broken for over 2 weeks Whole place stinks of musty mold Kitchen is VERY small (2 hot plates and 2 microwaves also do not give access to most kitchen utensils to cook your own food)
