Funky Green Voyager makes sustainable travel in Rotorua easy. We're big on recycling and proud of our eco credentials – plus we have a big backyard full of lovely lush grass. Head out there with a beer and fire up the barbecue on sunny days. In the winter, we make a roaring log fire in the lounge, so there's always somewhere cosy to hang out and make new friends. Our friendly staff are always up for a chat and they've got tons of tips like where to find the best yoga studios or craft breweries.

We're on the edge of the Victoria neighbourhood, just south of the centre of Rotorua. Hop on the number 10 bus from Rotorua Airport and you'll be with us in 35 minutes – we have luggage storage, so if you arrive early you can drop your bag and get exploring straightaway. We're a 15-minute walk from the centre of Rotorua and 18 minutes from the Rotorua Museum. Road-tripping around the North Island? You can park outside for free.

Rooms and Dorms

Our brightly coloured linen adds to the funky feel of our sleeping areas, which include private rooms – great for couples and small groups – and mixed dorms for those who prefer to mingle. Our beds all have 200cm-long inner-spring mattresses, so they're extra-comfortable. Some of our rooms have en-suite bathrooms, too, so you don't have far to go in the middle of the night.

Extras and activities

We've got a growing foodie scene in Rotorua, but if you don't feel like eating out (or want to save some dollars for adventure tours), you can easily make dinner in our well-equipped kitchen or grill something tasty on our barbecue. With free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel, look up some new recipes to impress your mates! The next day, take your travel buddies along to reception and we'll help you book days out – from rafting the Kaituna River to mountain biking the redwood forests.

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed!! The staff is amazing, they offer very good advice, and think about asking them for discounts on local attractions, they have lots of deals. The atmosphere is awesome, it really feels like home and there's a logfire in the common room. Great facilities too with the fully equipped kitchen. Our room was a little cold though, and it's too bad the towels are not included but otherwise don't change anything (except maybe the toilet paper brand, too thin)!

The hostel was incredibly cozy, you can literally feel as if you're at home. The staff are so kind and friendly, make sure you check up with them about all the discounts they offer for literally any destination in the area, they are really helpful! My only recommendation is to secure the bunk beds a little bit more, I felt a bit scared not to fall off from it because there wasn't any protection. Other than that, I fell in love with the hostel, definitely want to come back!

A cute, cozy, social place with a helpful and friendly staff. It's very close to a shopping centre and the town centre so very convinient location.

Nice place with friendly staff and comfortable beds. Facilities are a little dated compared to other places I’ve stayed in New Zealand (definitely got a 60s vibe from the place) but that’s not too much of a problem really. Couldn’t see any lockers in dorm areas, though I had a private room so this wasn’t an issue for me. Was a little quiet due to being off season and, while everyone was friendly, lots of common spaces spread over the hostel tended to divide people up, making mixing harder.

    Very Good

Staff were very nice and helpful. Facilities were mostly nice but the room felt slightly damp and only had a very small heater in it. And there were ants in the kitchen.

We stayed in a twin room which was outside of the main building so we had to go outside to use the bathroom. This was very inconvenient, especially during the night. Our room was freezing despite ‘heating’ being listed in the included facilities online. We had an electric heater in the room which did not contribute any heat to the room. Our room had glass, patio doors on one wall which made it very cold. Very dated decor. Staff were friendly and helpful.
