Everything was great!! Good location as well, many buses nearby to go everywhere relevant in kyoto and walking distance to the train station.

I enjoyed my stay at GATE80 and had a. Not so good: a bit of dust in the room at check-in and an improvised "kitchen" without a sink (but a bucket where one would separate the food from liquid before trashing). Sleeping on tatami was good for my back but my husband was not so pleased with it. Also our room did not have a window but as we learned in our trip around Japan, this is somehow common. Overall nice location with train station, castle, delicious ramen restaurants and supermarket nearby

The staff was very nice with us, specially when we rented bikes and asked if we could return them a bit later than usual so we could go out drinking. Really the only two complaints you can make are the lack of a kitchen, but there are fridges and a microwave; and that the location is not very centrical, specially if you wanna go drinking at night. Besides that it's all good.

Thanks for having us! We originally booked for 1 night but stayed longer. There’s a massive alcohol store next door with awesome selection, plus easy access to Lawsons convenience stores and public transport. Close to the train and bus stop right outside the door. Was difficult at times to converse with the receptionist as they didn’t know much English hahaha, but didn’t make our stay any less great.

Me gustó mucho. La gente muy amigable y dispuesta a ayudar. Pero queda un poco lejos de las atracciones turísticas.

Overall the hostel was comfortable and well located. Security was lacking a little bit as the back door onto the street was left open directly into the dormitory as a form of air con - but, it says a lot about Japanese safety when nothing happens! Also, free bread, teas, coffees and jams which is a massive perk on a travelling budget!

A little far from the market and Gion area but somewhat central for other sites. I had some little dead bugs in my bed but otherwise clean. Big hostel with lots of areas to hang out.

Cheapest place in town, despite daily changing prices. Book when you need a cheap place to stay, but remember you're going to spend extra on transportation to anywhere! Also, you might get unlucky and get a dorm bed on the other side of the wall with the cheap metal lockers. 24-hour banging guaranteed! Kitchen is only a microwave, kettle and toaster.

It is not very central but it was about a 15 minute walk to Kyoto Castle so there are some nearby attractions. The staff were mostly polite but not very proactive in assisting with sightseeing suggestions. They just refer you to a table with information booklets about attractions so no helpful local knowledge available. I was very disappointed to find out it was a capsule especially when the price was significantly higher than any other hostel I stayed at in Japan including Tokyo. No Breakfast.
