Gardiner House is in a beautiful historic building in the heart of Dublin – a 200-year-old convent, complete with Victorian chapel, that we've converted into a warm, welcoming hostel. You'll get a free breakfast, and there's a kitchen with everything you need to cook your own meals and a garden where you can have a drink in the fresh air. We're partnered with several tour groups, so we can offer you free or budget options to explore Dublin and the rest of Ireland.

Our hostel is on Upper Gardiner Street, next to Mountjoy Square Park, and only a few minutes' walk from O'Connell Street, Dublin's main shopping street. Temple Bar and Trinity College are only about 20 minutes away by bus, and Croke Park, the city's legendary stadium, is 10 minutes by foot. To reach us from Dublin Airport, hop on the 700 bus, which takes 30 minutes and stops just round the corner. We're also only a 10-minute walk from Busáras central bus station and Connolly train station.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got mixed and female-only dorms, as well as a mix of private rooms. All beds come with power and USB sockets, under-bed lockers and free linen – and yes, we'll even make your bed for you! If you want to make your stay with us even more special, go for our Chapel Experience: you'll sleep in the stunning surroundings of the building's original chapel, but with all the comfort of the other dorms, of course.

Extras and activities

Our welcoming staff know the best things to do in and around Dublin – they can offer advice and share their own go-to spots. If you feel like a night in instead, split your time between the comfortable TV room and the living room, where you can play pool, table football and board games, listen to music, use the free Wi-Fi or have a few drinks with your fellow travellers.

Receptionists were very friendly. Breakfast was simple (cereal, milk, bread, peanut butter, jam, and fruit). Location is about a 20-30 min. walk from the city. Monitored entrance into the hostel building made it feel safe. There is no age cap, so expect people of all ages.

Really impressive. The hostel is located in a huge, old institutional building which has been completely refitted in a really appealing and modern style. It's clear that a lot of planning, care and hard work has been put into it. As well as being pleasant, comfortable and spacious, the dorm, bathrooms and kitchen were spotlessly clean and well equipped. Added to that, the staff were extremely helpful, warm and friendly.

Wow! Did this hostel exceed my expectations or what?! It is a converted church type building/convent, maintains the stained glass windows and all, there is plenty of space, has nearly every facility you could require (I'm not sure about washing machines, I never asked) AND it is probably only one of the only hostels with a proper private smoking area.. I only hadn't booked it sooner cos it is a wee stretch further from the city centre centre than most of the others. But Wow! So impressed.

Woah this place is really nice.. One of the few hostels in Dublin to have its own private smoking area.. Really worth going the extra bit further out than staying closer to the centre of town, except for the Times Hostel on Camden Pl, this is one of the best hostels I've stayed in in Dublin

I found my bed quite uncomfortable as the springs poked into my back. Other than that though, I couldn’t fault the place. It was extremely clean and the facilities (bathrooms, kitchen, dining) were modern. Breakfast was great and at very accommodating times. Location was about a 20 min walk into the city, but this made it quiet. This isn’t a party hostel but the other guests were friendly so I’m sure one could be social if that’s what you were looking for. A great stay overall
