Property Description

Located in a historic 1880’s building in the center of the downtown Gaslamp Quarter, our hostel makes a statement with its double staircase and sunny, open atrium with a Victorian style that’s a nod to the Wild West days. We'll tell you all about our building's infamous past as well as the ghost stories! It’s just a step outside our door to the festive atmosphere of outdoor dining. And, every Thursday through Sunday the entire block becomes a walking avenue as well.

With our great weather year-round, San Diego is a great escape any time of year. We’re minutes away from a great stroll to the waterfront or a ferry to Coronado Island's expansive white beach. The Padres stadium is a 10 minute walk and many other attractions are very nearby including the San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village, Midway Naval Musuem and Seaworld. Explore nearby neighborhoods and hiking trails or take tour of our myriad of microbreweries! We're also a short drive or bus ride from other beaches. You can rent scooters and bikes at a nearby stand and get out and explore the city!

The staff and facilities at Gaslamp could not have been better. The location, while central, was a bit disconcerting when arriving at 10 pm on a Friday night. Streets below are a pretty crazy party scene which was a bit dicey traveling with a teenager. We just learned and made sure to get back to the hostel a bit earlier the next 2 nights. Great vibe, live music in the lounge, staff super friendly and helpful.... loved this place and would return!

My first hostel experience during COVID times, I’m fully vaccinated so peace of mind. First off the hostel is difficult to find the first time but the second time it will be easier. All of the staff wore mask and the whole area was clean, mask required in common area. Bed was decent and the pillow is pretty comfy. It’s gonna be loud outside BUT I did not hear a thing in my room and the AC was perfect so i slept soundly. Lockers were big and a electric socket by your bed. Great Stay!

Great location right on the main drag of Gaslamp. This street is the main party strip of San Diego, so if you don't like noise, maybe check out somewhere else. The dorms, showers and bathrooms were very clean and the staff was friendly. The price was a bit above the average for a bunk in the rest of the city, but the location can't be beat for getting around downtown. Was about a 25 min walk to Balboa Park and 15 min walk to Broadway Pier to catch the ferry to Coronado.

Location is right on 5th which is a very convenient location for partying and clubbing but bad for walk to local train transit (approx. 0.8 mile) and the nighttime noise is horrible so you'll have a hard time sleeping. The room I was assigned on the second floor had NO ventilation or a/c and the window was locked sealed so you couldn't open it. Occasionally left the door cracked. Had to leave the fan running all night. I woke up drenched in sweat. Kitchen is very small, for light cooking only.

I showed up on a friday night, the streets were so packed/blocked off it was hard to find. I drove around for an hour trying to find parking. I resorted to a parking garage where I paid $48 to park overnight. Once I got to my room I was exhausted and frustrated, ready to get some sleep. Not only were the streets roaring with drunk people screaming/loud music, someone was playing the saxophone until 4 am. My room mate was also coughing sick all night. I cancelled the rest of my stay and vacation.
