Property Description

Generator Amsterdam is a design hotel-hostel located in the heart of the city, overlooking Oosterpark. Guests can choose from shared dorms to private rooms, offering something for everyone. Housed in the former zoological university, Generator Amsterdam has transformed the original space creating an auditorium bar, library and basement nightclub. Complete with 24-hour reception, free wifi, cafe and bikes available for hire, Generator is a fun and affordable choice in Amsterdam.

The Generator Amsterdam Reception is open 24 hours a day with a duty manager always around and happy to help. It has flexible and spacious social areas, filled with creative design touches like glass-fronted elevators, a raised cafe and an outdoor terrace. We have turned the former lecture hall into an impressive chill-out lounge and bar, while the old library is now a relaxation and private events room and the basement and cafe are now dining destinations.
Stay connected with free Wi-Fi and share those holiday snaps. In need of some clean clothes? The laundry is open 24 hours for washing, drying and ironing. A secure luggage room gives you more freedom to explore Amsterdam bag-free! The best way to explore Amsterdam is definitely by bike. Luckily for you, our hostel provides Vanmoof bikes for rental. Come to our travel shop for city tour tickets and more. You forgot your toothbrush or want a travel journal to keep track of your experiences? Visit our GenStore for exclusive Generator products. Let us help you make the most of your stay! Our hostel staff are incredibly friendly, multilingual and know the city inside out. They are on hand to help you with whatever info you need, just ask.

Ride your bicycle along cafe-lined waterways, visit the most creative shops around De Pijp or just kick back by the canal and try a few cold Dutch beers. It is pretty hard to get stressed in Amsterdam, but having a good time is easy.

Great location and excellent shared spaces. Need more working washing machines and dryers (2 only!) Please stop playing techno mixes throughout the property at 8 AM. Nobody should start dancing then. Towels should not be 5 Euro. I can buy one at a store for less. If the washer and dryer require coins, have coins at the desk please.

Overall it’s pretty good for the money - as amsterdam is quite expensive in terms of accommodation. I stayed in a 4 bed mix dorm, rooms were very small but bed was quite comfy and the air con worked well.

We enjoyed our stay, the staff was very helpful and the rooms were nice and clean. We really liked the quiet area where the hostel is located, but it is a bit far from the main attractions.

Great place to stay as a solo traveler! Felt safe and comfortable. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is you have to pay for everything like locks to store luggage, towels, water, etc. Pretty pricey!

So expensive but I guess it was a weekend. Rooms and beds were nice and comfy. The cafe downstairs is also quite expensive so we got food and coffee elsewhere. About 30-40min walk into city centre which we didn’t mind as it’s a nice walk.

Booked last minute to stay in a 4-bed mixed dorm - room really was too small for 4 beds (especially compared to other places I’ve stayed in Europe), bed structure was great with individual light, shelf, power sockets (including USB sockets) but the plastic bed cover was uncomfortable and felt weirdly damp? The dorm was also too warm, probably due to being quite small. The hostel as a whole had no real atmosphere - it’s too large (over 500 beds) and there is no nice chill out area away from the cafe (cafe st

Some how, it was the worth hostel that I have ever been, they just want to make money from everything, instead of making good feelings for their guests. The dorms and the 3 floors beds are not comfortable. Also the staff just wanted to be kind, but they were not responsible or helpful. Check-in platform did not work. The price was so high compare to their service. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone.
