This was probably my favorite place I stayed at during my time in Japan. I couldn't necessarily afford to stay at a ryokan by myself so but this place made me feel like I was. The room and each pod had tatami mats and it really gave you that ryokan feel. It is also in a great location, a short walk from a few of the most popular streets and shrines in Kyoto. Also short walks to a few bus stops. I would recommend it to anyone coming to Kyoto and looking to stay in the Gion area.

Loved the place! I stayed in the 10 room bed mixed dorm, and it was pretty private, as compared to other dorms I’ve stayed in. Decent location, but the walk to the train stations are a bit far.

Amazing location for exploring. Not really much chatting amongst fellow travellers and the dorm room was very loud with people talking at times and answering phone calls

Had a comfortable stay here. Helpful reception staff. It felt like there was a constant stream of people coming through the hostel. But they provide ample shower rooms and toilets, and somehow there's no crowding during the times i used the dining/kitchen area. There's also a common space on the 3rd level with a beautiful view of a garden if you bother to check it out! If you're in the upper bunk, there is enough space on the landing to lie a carry-on luggage flat, which is convenient.

The location is hard to beat but found the single futon mattress a bit hard for a longer stay. The showers are a push button type and don’t stay on for very long which gets a bit annoying. Otherwise the facilities are clean and adequate.

Cute Ryokan in the heart of the Gion/Higashiyama district of Kyoto. A little off the beaten path, so nice and quite; but not too far away from the main attractions. You really get the sense that this was a traditional home that had been converted into a hostel. Take advantage of the private bath and the lounge on the 3rd floor that hardly anyone used during my stay. But I didn't like that all the communal showers were on the first floor by the kitchen and that there weren't private lockers.

The staff here were great. Very helpful for getting around Kyoto and had good recommendations for things to see. The building itself is quite beautiful and is in a scenic ally not too far from the bus stop and subway station. My one complaint was that the shower had some issues. The water was either scalding hot or freezing cold and the water pressure was quite weak.

    Very Good

    15 Oct 2019
The staff was very friendly and inviting! I loved the historic charm of it. However, I did not like the shower as it was hard to get a good medium temperature and it would always shut off. You had to consistently press the button for water to come out. Also, I hated the bed and barely slept as it was to thin. However, this was still a good stay. I would stay again but only for a day or so.
