Property Description

Set in rugged scenery at the foot of the Cuillin Ridge, Glenbrittle Youth Hostel is just over a mile from the beach and close to the magical fairy pools and the famous Talisker Distillery. Eagles can often be spotted in the skies above.

This homely hostel has a long tradition as a base for walkers and climbers, offering guests a variety of rooms, all with USB charging points and individual bed lights. Many have mountain views and all are available to book as private rooms. Although none of the rooms are en-suite, there are ample shower and washroom facilities.

Opt for continental breakfast served in the dining room or take advantage of the modern, well-equipped self-catering kitchen. The hostel is licensed and guests can relax with a local craft beer or glass of wine in the comfortable mountain-facing lounge after a hard day on the hills.

Other facilities include a laundry, large drying room, public phone and secure bike storage for up to 10 bikes. Basic provisions, including frozen ready meals, confectionery and soft drinks are available to purchase at reception. Limited off-road parking is available in front of the hostel.

The hostel is also available for exclusive private rental. View House Rules

Our stay in Glenbrittle was pure magic, and the hostel was a big part of that. The setting is breathtaking, with several great hikes nearby. Hervé (the manager) was knowledgeable, professional, helpful, and kind, always going above and beyond for everyone. Facilities were perfect for us - non-fussy, clean, spacious, and hearty and tasty meals available if needed. It was wonderful to stay in a historical building in which my father stayed as a young man fifty years ago. See? Magic.

This hostel is perfectly located for getting off the grid for a few days and exploring the beautiful landscape. It has ample cooking space for several groups at once and comfortable common areas, but the best thing is definitely the location and how knowledgeable the staff was about the hikes around.

Hands down the best place I've stayed at. its remote, yes but for a very good reason. something the hostel doesn't advertise is 5 mins away is a beach. and its the most peaceful place to end your day. i will definitely be visiting again!

Haven't been in many hostels but if all were kept up to this condition then it'd be great. Friendly staff, nice people staying at the same time and the whole place was kept clean by everyone while there. Great facilities and enough for a few groups at the same time to use.

The staff are helpful and hard-working, keeping this old facility very clean. The bathrooms are updated and good. The facility design encourages interaction among the guests, however, that leads to the one negative--noise. The rooms have paper thin walls, and guests who ignore the quiet hours provide an upsetting amount of echoing noise shared by everyone in all the rooms. Ear plugs are a poor solution. Guests should be strongly reminded of the need for quiet. Also, keep the hostel open all day.

For people hiking the nearby mountains this is a great location. Otherwise it is off the beaten track for anything else. The waterfall across from the hostel was pretty. The facilities were clean and bedroom was comfy. I would definitely recommend staying here. It had a nice mountain cabin feel to it.

I’ll start with the positives, the place was clean. However, after a long day of hiking, I showed up, told I’d have to make my own bed, which I’ve never experienced in a hostel and the bed was horribly uncomfortable. I could feel every spring. I couldn’t sleep due to that and was outta there to finish my sleep in my car. I wish I’d have saved my $30 and just slept in my car.
