I had a great stay in Grafton Backpackers. I was working in one of the universities so wasn't looking to party during the week and though this hostel was perfect as the 'party area' was super far from the rooms. Had everything I needed, even Netflix 😊 would recommend

    Very Good

There was no staff to assist me or other guests when arriving early for about 10 minutes. The building is a bit cramped but has all of the facilities one would need - good WiFi, multiple showers and bathroom, key and door code from the outside. I expected a bit more from this place when I had a very tight, congested feeling with everyone in the living room to everyone in the common space on our floor. The elevator is in dire need of repair as well and I don’t think anyone was be working on it.

Really nice staff, amazing people as well. It’s very easy to make friends and they have an atm and food and drink machines which is nice. They do have AC but the last few days I think it stopped working or they turn it off.. the windows do not open so the room was horrid when I came home after night shifts. The ONLY thing I had a problem with was that. But I understand for a hostel to be cheaper it won’t be like other ones I stay at. I would still recommend but prepare yourself x good wifi too

Excellent staff. Unfortunately too many bunks crammed into tiny rooms. Many people are here long term so have a lot of things: this meant the rooms were chaotic and had no space to even put your backpack down. I couldn’t see the floor under everything. And as a result there was no definition between peoples things; I caught the same guy rummaging through my things and using them several times. I think this hostel needs to invest in some storage units for the rooms

First night was in a 8 bed room (108). I got there after 24 hrs of travel on 3 hrs of sleep and still couldn't sleep. It was stuffy, smelly, and loud. I upgraded to a 6 bed room and it was substantially better, room had a window, beds weren't as squeaky. The place is dingy but clean. People seemed to clean up after themselves in the kitchen, which I really appreciated. One staff member was friendly and helpful. The other seemed grumpy. Biggest downside is the long walk to the grocery store.

This place is one of the worst hostels that I have stayed in. There were roaches all over the common areas. In addition, the pictures are not accurate. We had an 8 person mixed dorm with no ac for days. When we asked about paying more for a new room or when the ac would be up and working, the receptionist yelled at us. In addition, the bunks are very old and the room was very small. Every time someone moved in their sleep, the bunks would shake and were noisy.

Not the best location but comfortable nights stay. Wouldn’t stay for much longer than that. Seemed to be a large amount of long-term workers.

Not one to leave bad reviews but my whole experience with this hostel was abysmal. Needed somewhere to stay for one night in Auckland, arrived and sat on the bed and the mattress fell through the bed frame. Receptionist's attitude wasn't great, tried to speak to a manager but was no use. Just told "we can't move you and we don't really do refunds". Was promised a resolution from manager the next day, noone arrived. Was promised a follow up via phone/email, heard nothing and now they don't reply.
