Best hostel I’ve stayed in so far in Japan. The staff were extremely friendly and was allowed to leave my bag there. Incredibly cheap with lovely bedding and perfect location! Less than a minute walk to the famous market and right by the Main Street to get a bus. I stayed in a female only dorm which I normally don’t choose bet met some lovely people and the separate women’s bathrooms was like receiving special treatment. They also have baths with the showers if you fancy a hot soak in private!

The hostel was clean and the staff was very friendly and able to give a recommendation when we asked for a nearby breakfast place. There were umbrellas available for guests to borrow for free, which was a thoughtful touch. The location is great, only a five minute walk away from some major shopping streets and there are many food options in the area.

I enjoyed staying and Grand Rem a lot. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was a nice atmosphere and the location is great for exploring Kyoto. However, the temperature inside the sleeping pods was insane, no airflow with the curtain shut, and if you left the curtain open it was impossible to sleep due to the light in the main part of the bedroom being on constantly. Additionally the WiFi was almost unusable past 5pm. Adding a small fan in each pod would make the world of difference.

Great hostel which was close to station. Clean pods which are completely dark at night.

Very nice Hostel and very nice people staying there. The kitchen is really small but it got all what it needs for simple meals. The location is perfect right in the center and there are many markets, bars and restaurants around.

Great place to stay and in a pretty good location. There was one/ two members of staff that seemed unsure or didn’t understand what you were asking but I must say that all the other staff were great. The bed room was very warm and in the capsules were roasting... maybe a little fan inside the capsules to help with the temperature.

Friendly staff, great location right next to nishiki market with lots of food options. Beds were not very practical and top bunks with very small steps and not easily accessible. Main issue I had was that we were not allowed to touch most light switches and lights were always on 24/7, including the dormitory lights! Very annoying at night and very wasteful! Definitely not an eco friendly place.

    Very Good

Grand-Rem was a simple stay while in Kyoto. Not quite as nice as other hostels I stayed at in Japan, but perfectly adequate. Staff were friendly, nice common space with activities. The room was a bit tight and had a slightly musty smell (probably from everyone's wet towels), but otherwise was fine. Beds were hole-in-the-wall capsule style. Lockers under beds. Bathroom situation was difficult with one toilet and one shower on the second floor, more on 3rd, but busy when hostel is. Overall fine st
