the host was so so lovely and the place was homely and clean! just keep in mind that the place turns into a cafe during the day so you can’t access your rooms between 11:00-16:00. was not an issue for my case at all! thee’s plenty to do in takayama to fill that time

Clean and cosy place within walking distance from the train station and the morning market. The best part of this place however are the hosts - very warm and helpful. I highly recommend this place!

Fantastic stay at Guesthouse Daruma. The staff were extremely friendly and happy to give recommendations. A really cosy atmosphere, we wanted to stay on longer but only had one night! They also allowed us to keep our bags for the day after checking out. Would definitely recommend.

Brilliant hostel with a brilliant host! So helpful and recommending places and enjoyed meeting a few people here briefly on my travels! It's a small but homely hostel with all the things you could need. Comfy futon beds were the best ☺️

Yes, you have to be out of the facility from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and that can be a little bit of a hassle, but it's well worth it for such a nice place to stay. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Not a lot of interaction between guests, but the owners are very nice.

Small, family-owned hostel. The hostel is actually a residential home that has been subdivided to create a guest space. During the day, it turns into a taco rice restaurant, so you can't go in for a few hours, but that was fine with me! The family is lovely and very welcoming to guests. I would definitely stay here again. FYI, if you check in late and the door is shut, there is a very small doorbell on the right side of the front door frame.

Friendly host. Not a bad spot considering Takayama is less touristy (therefore less good hostel options). They dont let you access the hostel between 11am-4pm which can be frustrating.

I almost never give bad reviews, but I really didn't like staying at this hostel. The building is freezing. The kitchen can't even fit 2 people in it. They kick you out all day long to run a taco shop. The "living room" is a TINY little taco shop. The chance to meet travelers is non-existent, and the feeling of staying there really was like staying w a small family that didn't really want you there. I want all people to be successful, but I really wish I stayed somewhere else when I was in Takay
