Property Description

HI Athabasca Falls is the perfect hostel for outdoor group activities. It is the largest of the four wilderness hostels in Jasper National Park. Located next to the powerful Falls of the same name, the location promises awesome views, spectacular hiking and a wonderful off-the-beaten path experience.

The Fryatt Valley and Athabasca Pass are easily accessed from the hostel offering cross-country skiing, hiking and mountain biking opportunities.

This is a wilderness hostel with limited creature comforts - no running water, no showers, and no flush toilets. We do have purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, stoves and solar-powered lights.

Please bring your own linens (Sleeping bags, sheets, pillow, towels, etc)

**NOTE - Due to the wilderness location, accessibility for the physically disabled is challenging (call for further details) Credit Card needed when making reservations. Due to lack of direct/reliable communication with the Wilderness Hostels the Central Reservation Office is not able to make same day arrival reservations - walk in basis only. 48 hours individual cancellation - at all wilderness hostels. Book ahead to avoid any disappointment. As these smaller hostels are very popular both winter and summer.

A word on HI Wilderness Hostels

Get back to nature with HI's network of wilderness hostels. They're a varied bunch! Some have lights powered by propane, some have rustic wood-burning saunas, at some you'll get electricity, and at others you'll get to pump your own water. But whatever you're after, these hostels with their simple comforts immerse you in the natural splendour of the Rockies.

You'll be able to savour true silence, night skies bursting with stars and the knowledge that some of the world's most magnificent outdoors is, really, just out the door. Dotted along the Icefields Parkway, and throughout the Parks, these hostels are set into pockets of trees, alongside creeks, or at the base of thousand-foot-high rock faces. Whether you get there by car, bike or on food, your efforts are rewarded with some of the finer, simpler things in life - a warm fire, cozy lounges, and the chance to share food with new friends while you relive the day's adventures.

HI Athabasca is part of HI Canada, a not-for-profit organization on a mission to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures.

Had an Amazing stay at this hostel! Jeff (the hostel manager) was very friendly and welcoming. He provided us with a hostel tour to start and showed us where our room was. The hostel itself was very clean (even the outhouses were super clean!). Hostel dorm was large and sectioned into three making it private. Location was prime (20 mins to Jasper on Icefields parkway). Also there was a campfire at night which added great atmosphere to the place. Overall we wish we could have stayed longer!

The place was absolutely spotless. Not much of an atmosphere due to covid-19 but it is in a beautiful location and close to all the attractions.

    Very Good

My first time in a hostel. Jeff was amazing and the place was spotless and tidy all the time. It was a fun “camping” experience, but I wished there was a bathroom and shower - not just an outhouse. However the outhouse was the best one I’ve ever been in 😊

We arrived late, but the owner got very passive-aggressive with us. Take this review with a grain of salt if you come on time. It's just difficult for me to review otherwise as he wasn't quite nice to us the next morning as well. I will personally not go back.
