Property Description

HI Athabasca Falls is the perfect hostel for outdoor group activities. It is the largest of the four wilderness hostels in Jasper National Park. Located next to the powerful Falls of the same name, the location promises awesome views, spectacular hiking and a wonderful off-the-beaten path experience.

The Fryatt Valley and Athabasca Pass are easily accessed from the hostel offering cross-country skiing, hiking and mountain biking opportunities.

This is a wilderness hostel with limited creature comforts - no running water, no showers, and no flush toilets. We do have purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, stoves and solar-powered lights.

We supply all bed linen - sheets, blankets, pillows and pillow cases - so you can leave your sleeping bag at home! (no charge for linen)

**NOTE - Due to the wilderness location, accessibility for the physically disabled is challenging (call for further details) Credit Card needed when making reservations. Due to lack of direct/reliable communication with the Wilderness Hostels the Central Reservation Office is not able to make same day arrival reservations - walk in basis only. 48 hours individual cancellation - at all wilderness hostels. Book ahead to avoid any disappointment. As these smaller hostels are very popular both winter and summer.

*This hostel is closed during the day!
CHECK OUT - prior to 10am

A word on HI-Wilderness Hostels

Get back to nature with HI's network of wilderness hostels. They're a varied bunch! Some have lights powered by propane, some have rustic wood-burning saunas, at some you'll get electricity, and at others you'll get to pump your own water. But whatever you're after, these hostels with their simple comforts immerse you in the natural splendour of the Rockies.

You'll be able to savour true silence, night skies bursting with stars and the knowledge that some of the world's most magnificent outdoors is, really, just out the door. Dotted along the Icefields Parkway, and throughout the Parks, these hostels are set into pockets of trees, alongside creeks, or at the base of thousand-foot-high rock faces. Whether you get there by car, bike or on food, your efforts are rewarded with some of the finer, simpler things in life - a warm fire, cozy lounges, and the chance to share food with new friends while you relive the day's adventures.

HI Athabasca is part of HI Canada, a not-for-profit organization on a mission to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures.

It's a great place to stay albeit we had an entire cabin to ourselves and got really good weather for the night we stayed. Location is amazing and the Athabasca Falls is only a few minutes walk away. There is electricity in the main area and the rooms as well.

Best: It was a mix between hostel and refuge. And I have to say, it was awesome! The first comment from the manager was, be careful with the forest close by, there are bears which sometimes come =D Apart of that, kitchen complete, good coffee (free, with small donation) and good atmosphere. You sleep in a cabin close to the main room. The personnel recommend us some hike to do.. Worst: We arrived after 3 days in the Transcanadian and we would have LOVED a shower. This does not have :(

Good hostel overall, make sure you don’t leave any food in your car as mice somehow got inside and ate all our food!

The employee working does not belong in customer service. He made us feel unwelcome for not being part of a larger tour. He has no interest in accommodating guests and treats them like a nusseunce. Requests are met with "I don't give a s#%t." He follows around micro-managing his guests including waking everyone out of their beds at 830 when check out is 10 to looking over your shoulder while you do dishes to critique your technique.
