This was my second hostel ever. Experience here was great. Clean and friendly environment. Plenty of space for both work and fun. I became a member after my visit here. Will try to make most of my trips with the HI organization from now on. Highly recommend. Thanks for the stay :).

Staff was extremely helpful and flexible with our arrival time. Has a really great hang out area. Its the perfect place to crash. Just be mindful that people turn on the lights randomly throughout the night. (Hang up a sheet or something to block it out).

Overall stay was comfortable. Chill vibe, right on the river with easy access to B-cycles. The second evening I came in the front door to find a heated argument, more like a yelling match, between one of the staff (girl with brown curly hair) and one of the guests. I turned around and walked right back out the door and took a walk by the river. I have no idea what led up to it, and it was over when I got back, but I've never seen a hostel staff member lose their cool like that.

A hostel with a magnificent location, and a very friendly and welcoming team. Never really had any major issues. Some growth areas are the cleanliness (had a strong scent of dampness in the room) and a somewhat strong policy against alcohol inside the house. Probably due to some unfortunate events in the past. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a hostel in Austin.

Definitely not a party hostel or even really a very social one, but good quality nonetheless. The rooms were a little quiet and I wish they’d put in overhead fans or a sound machine or something. The showers are great which is always nice. Alison is the best and does a great job working hard to keep the place clean and hospitable with a great attitude. Thank you!!

    Very Good

    13 Feb 2020
HI Hostel is conveniently located in South Austin, an easy drive away to Downtown and East Austin. Breakfast was provided each morning (toast, fruit, cereal, and coffee/tea). Linens and towels are also no additional cost. The bathrooms were nice! Large vanity area and nice showers too. The rooms themselves however, were quite small and the beds were not comfortable at all. Be prepared for sore backs! Overall, it is great for convenience, especially if you're out and about all day!

HI Austin is a very okay place to spend some time. My spouse and I booked a private room which had dust balls, bobby pins, and tiny scraps of paper strewn everywhere— it wasn't really clean. The first few nights we were there, the shower curtain liner was super moldy, but at some point, it was swapped out for a new one. The reception desk was noisy all night long and the rooms were super hot, resulting in poor sleep. The breakfast is bread, oatmeal, and cereal. Overall, very mediocre.
