HI Austin staff was super friendly and helpful as this was my first time in the area. They have a kitchen where you can store and make food, the bathrooms and bedrooms are clean, and you can follow the bike trail until you hit the downtown area. There are also stores nearby in case you need anything for the hostel.

At first glance I thought the hostel was quite far away from downtown but actually it’s in a really nice location at the lakeside. The common area is comfortable and nicely decorated, the free breakfast is good. The staff are helpful and friendly! My only issue was that the bathrooms don’t seem to get cleaned every day - I showered one evening, and the following evening the same bathmat was still on the floor (I recognised it because of the stains). An improvement would be lamps next to each bed

Hostel felt safe and clean, lots of windows so very open and a nice place to sit/be. Really close to some good food and water sports but a little far from Downtown. Bathrooms not great but didn’t take away from the great experience

I personally loved the location away from the center. It's so lovely to take a city bike located just outside the hostel and cycle the river trail to the downtown

Staff was very friendly and always ready to help. They even helped find my lost towel and gave it back with a sweet little note, which shows they take each of their guests seriously and their needs. That was very sweet of them - I wouldn’t expect less from HI. I do wish it was cleaner though and I saw that they clean everyday but the floors stayed sticky and dirty. There’s a strong musty smell throughout the building. I saw for myself they were cleaning everyday though. Location is lovely !🌿

Cute facility; great kitchen; wonderful location near the water! Only complaint is the staff were not very professional and were gossiping about tenants, coworkers, their personal lives loudly at front desk and in common spaces. I love the calendar of events at this location!

    Very Good

The experience was stressful, You don’t think about the comforts you have of a hotel room or at home until you don’t have them. For example I sleep very hot so I keep my environment at night below 70 degrees, that’s not really something you get to control in a hostel. I was constantly concerned about bed bugs, bothering others in the room as it’s easy to make noise, and the lockers are metal and loud, as are the beds, very squeaky, I didn’t sleep much. Communal living just isn’t my thing!

Solo traveller: Not many activities or events organized through the hostel. The best thing is that it’s next to the river where you can go and kayak or paddle. You would need a car if you want to go to the downtown area a lot. Definitely not very clean. I would try new place next time.

The bathroom is pretty dirty. Found hair (that's not mine) in my bedding.

The only option that was available for the weekend that I visited Austin was a private bedroom, which was going to be $90 a night. It was a little steep since I could easily find an Airbnb that was cheaper, but my boyfriend insisted because he went to the location in Chicago and loved it. This location, the Austin location, was definitely not worth the money. The room was very compact and not the best quality. The other private room spent over an hour in the bathroom, which was frustrating.
