A word on HI Wilderness Hostels

Get back to nature with HI's network of wilderness hostels. They're a varied bunch! Some have lights powered by propane, some have rustic wood-burning saunas, at some you'll get electricity, and at others you'll get to pump your own water. But whatever you're after, these hostels with their simple comforts immerse you in the natural splendour of the Rockies.

You'll be able to savour true silence, night skies bursting with stars and the knowledge that some of the world's most magnificent outdoors is, really, just out the door. Dotted along the Icefields Parkway, ad throughout the Parks, these hostels are set into pockets of trees, alongside creeks, or at the base of thousand-foot-high rock faces. Whether you get there by car, bike or on food, your efforts are rewarded with some of the finer, simpler things in life - a warm fire, cozy lounges, and the chance to share food with new friends while you relive the day's adventures.

We really loved the cozy fireplace and the perfect location! Thanks to Jamie, we had the perfect route to beat the crowd and admire the beautiful trails and lakes at our own pace. It was really warm at our beds too! Thank you & we will definitely come back!

The location was great for people who want to be around the Johnston Canyon but if you want to be in Banff, I would not really suggest it. I only gave this hostel a 4* rating for security simply because they never lock the doors. Staying in that area is extremely unlikely to have robberies but I would have simply prefer some locking situation. People who stay there are very nice & have a smile on their face. It was worth the money, it was pretty clean also.

Stayed there just for one night. Nice little hostel in the forest. Lars was very friendly and gave a lot of tips. The hostel was clean, has a very nice common aerea with chimney fire and a big kitchen. The showers and toilets are bit small but they work and are clean and thats important. It is a quiet and relaxed place. I had a car, so i do not know how easy it is to get around there without a car.

Shauna was a great host! We actually had a power cut the first night I stayed here (outside of the hostels control as a tree had downed a power line in the area). We were still able to cook our dinner on the bbq however due to Shaunas quick thinking. Great location away from the bustle of Banff. Right across the road from the Rockbound Lake trail also!
