Get to know the winding streets of Bruges from your friendly base at HI Europa Brugge. You’ll find us within our own peaceful grounds, but still steps from the pubs and chocolate shops the city is famous for. Check in and grab a drink in our cosy bar, grab a power nap in the living room or get some air on the terrace or in the garden. Log onto the free Wi-Fi to drop a message home before starting your tour (after helping yourself to a free buffet breakfast, of course!).

We’re easy to find, just a 7-minute bus ride (take the number 2 to Assebroek Wantestraat and you’re 260 metres from our door) or a 15-minute walk from the train station. See the city on foot, by bike or a canal trip – we’re right in the middle of it all. Climb to the top of the Belfry of Bruges, see the relics at the Basilica of the Holy Blood or indulge in a waffle at the main square – the Markt – all within a 25-minute stroll from our door. After a Belgian beer pit-stop, check out Old St John’s hospital for its architecture and art.

Rooms and Dorms

Our male and female-only dorms are split between two wings within our grounds. Your stay gets you free linen and towels can be rented. Bring a locker padlock to shut your backpack away while you’re out. We also have private quad rooms with en-suite bathrooms that are great if you’re travelling with your mates.

Extras and activities

Rent a bike from reception and cycle around the main sights to leave you more time for bar-hopping. Tired from your ride or walking tour? We have a book exchange where you can pick up a new read. If you’re travelling solo, our lounge is a great place to meet other visitors. Show them how it’s done on the pool table or find a board game from our collection.

A bit outside the city centre but you can still easily walk there as Bruges isn't that big. The receptionist was super nice and helpful. He even offered us leftover bread for free when we arrived (and then put it in the oven to refresh so it was actually as good as new) The walls / ceilings are quite thin so you have to hope for quiet neighbors and there were only two power outlets in our six bed dormitory which would have been a problem had there been more guests. Otherwise everything was fine

Really nice place, especially for the price. I recommend staying here if you don't mind a little walk into city centre (it's a really beautiful walk).

Good location and atmosphere, excellent staff. No lockers and only 2 power outlets in each dorm is a bit of a let down though

Really nice and cozy place. Good for short visit but on Saturday there was some party people so I didn't get to sleep that well.

The location is good, but not great. You should try to arrive at the main station in the day hours, otherwise, you will have to walk around 45 minutes. The common areas are big and you can buy drinks and snacks at the bar. The toilets are generally clean. The rooms, however, had very strong b.o. and I don't think they are often cleaned.

The room and bed aren't that comfortable, you have to keep pressing a button every 5 seconds for the shower to work (one shower room for the entire hostel, male and female) and it's very easy for someone to enter the hostel and go to the rooms. It's ok for one or two nights at the most, but I found it a bit expensive for this type of facilities.

The staff are really nice and helpful. Atmosphere is nice. But in rooms, there are only two sockets and there are no lockers. Breakfast is nice. There isn’t any soap in bathroom on our floor for 2 days. On beds there is no light so sometimes it can be problem turning on the light of whole room.

The hostel is fine, but the bathrooms and the showers are closed everyday for 4 hours to be “cleaned”, yet it isn’t very clean at all. Ridiculous that you cannot shower between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM. Only two power sockets in a room of 6 people, which is very inconvenient.

Almost spent the night outside because reception shuts at 10:30 and I was only sent an email saying this at 10:25! It was a stroke of luck that I got in having scaled a large spiked fence and waited for a guest to by chance walk by the window and got him to let me in. Would have been a cold night and staff didn’t seem to care at all. Also showers smelt like pee but room was warm but only had 2 powerpoints between 6 people and breakfast was good but no toaster.
