Overview

Get to know the winding streets of Bruges from your friendly base at HI Europa Brugge. You’ll find us within our own peaceful grounds, but still steps from the pubs and chocolate shops the city is famous for. Check in and grab a drink in our cosy bar, grab a power nap in the living room or get some air on the terrace or in the garden. Log onto the free Wi-Fi to drop a message home before starting your tour (after helping yourself to a free buffet breakfast, of course!).

Location

We’re easy to find, just a 7-minute bus ride (take the number 2 to Assebroek Wantestraat and you’re 260 metres from our door) or a 15-minute walk from the train station. See the city on foot, by bike or a canal trip – we’re right in the middle of it all. Climb to the top of the Belfry of Bruges, see the relics at the Basilica of the Holy Blood or indulge in a waffle at the main square – the Markt – all within a 25-minute stroll from our door. After a Belgian beer pit-stop, check out Old St John’s hospital for its architecture and art.

Rooms and Dorms

Our male and female-only dorms are split between two wings within our grounds. Your stay gets you free linen and towels can be rented. Bring a locker padlock to shut your backpack away while you’re out. We also have private quad rooms with en-suite bathrooms that are great if you’re travelling with your mates.

Extras and activities

Rent a bike from reception and cycle around the main sights to leave you more time for bar-hopping. Tired from your ride or walking tour? We have a book exchange where you can pick up a new read. If you’re travelling solo, our lounge is a great place to meet other visitors. Show them how it’s done on the pool table or find a board game from our collection.

Great place! Friendly staff, clean rooms and common areas; really nice and large common areas. Walking distance to the heart of the city was more than I would have liked, but not terrible. On the other hand, we were near an Aldi discount grocery store!! Dorm room was spacious enough that we weren't stumbling over each other.

The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The hostel is well organized and has nice facilities. Definitely set up for a younger crowd, but there were plenty of older people there.

    Very Good

Overall not a bad experience staying here. Place smelled a little funny, and the showers were terrible (low water pressure, push-button for 20 seconds of hot water, smelled bad). Reception staff was friendly and helpful, included breakfast was fine. A little far from the city center, but still within walking distance.

Showers weren't working, staff unapologetic. We'd ridden 80km that day and just wanted to shower and go for dinner, had to settle for a cold shower. Only 2 power sockets per room so couldn't charge phone. Complimentary breakfast was nice but could have a savoury vegan option. Rooms were very hot, made worse by the rubber beds.

Close to the train station and the centre of Bruges. My biggest concern though was the lack of security, as the door would not shut automatically when someone left the room. In addition anyone could easily walk through the main door and into any of the rooms if they weren’t locked. This was very concerning to me. There also wasn’t any curtains on the beds which means you didn’t have much privacy. The staff were really friendly and the showers were clean along with the toilets.

The hostel is at 1.6 km of the city centre, the breakfast is good. The attention is normal, however, if a roommate close the door from the inside or your key didn't function, you don't have a green number to call or a person in the reception to solve the problem.

The hostel's too far away from the central. The bedrooms only have two plugs for six beds and the showers seemed dirty. The staff is friendly and the free breakfast is a nice detail. .

I’ve been traveling around Europe for over a month and have stayed at many hostels. This has been the worst. There was minimum effort done to bring to hostel up to par with modern expectations. The rooms lack power outlets, lockers and any form of cover on the beds for privacy. There was minimum effort done to clean the sheets and there were very visible marks and tears on them which made you wonder what they have been through. The only lockers supplied are in the lobby area and are small.
