Great facilities, plenty of cookware in the kitchen. Central location and 5 mins to the bus stop. Friendly helpful staff. Free local phone to use if you need.

The staff were accommodating, friendly, and respectful with the hostel being right next to the waterfront for travelers. Authentic pubs such as Henry's House Pub and Bearly's are within a few meters where one could experience some of the best live blues on the east coast along with the Celtic influence through Nova Scotia. The hostel is also situated downtown near the Argyle strip for a vibrant nightlife with the convention centre nearby for any business agendas. I had a great visit!

Good place, good location. I was there during low season so it was hard to say what the atmosphere is like, but the facilities were well set-up for a good time. Only downsides are the beds are not very comfortable.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The room was nice and the bathroom was what I would want. Apparently there was a mouse roaming around in our room? But that kind of comes with old houses. Do recommend the hostel!

Room 114, female dorm downstairs smells really musty and is really damp. Possible water damaged? and mould issues? Kitchen is well equipped and facilities are good. Good common area.

    Very Good

While it was good to see pensioners and scout groups out enjoying budget travel it didn’t make good in the way of socializing as a young solo traveler. Beds were comfy enough, WiFi was decent. Kitchen was good. Bathrooms were decent, but the top level is a little squashed. Lockers were a nice size. If you’re just looking for a place to sleep HI Halifax is for you.

All the old people staying there kind of killed the hostel’s vibe. Location is not bad, but in the outskirts of the action. Lots of reviews noting the mouse traps in the kitchen.. hostel should use spray foam to seal around hot water pipes, baseboard cracks, etc and fix the mouse issue properly. Would be good if hostel staff was a bit more engaged with guests. Halifax seems like a cool place but ideally come on the weekend.

Stairs leading downstairs are very dangerous going up and down.....metal strips used on carpeted stairs is not good..tripping hazard both up and down...lucky nobody has hurt themselves....plugging things in beside the socket on the bed area was so bad I had to open prongs of lamp and my charger... I have stayed in other hostels mostly in BC or Australia or New Zealand...very happy with them but not so much with Halifax location....
