A word on HI Wilderness Hostels:

Get back to nature with HI's network of wilderness hostels. They're a varied bunch! Some have lights powered by propane, some have rustic wood-burning saunas, at some you'll get electricity, and at others you'll get to pump your own water. But whatever you're after, these hostels with their simple comforts immerse you in the natural splendour of the Rockies.

You'll be able to savour true silence, night skies bursting with stars and the knowledge that some of the world's most magnificent outdoors is, really, just out the door. Dotted along the Icefields Parkway, and throughout the Parks, these hostels are set into pockets of trees, alongside creeks, or at the base of thousand-foot-high rock faces. Whether you get there by car, bike or on food, your efforts are rewarded with some of the finer, simpler things in life - a warm fire, cosy lounges, and the chance to share food with new friends while you relive the day's adventures.

The German man who runs this hostel was absolutely lovely. He sat with the guests at the campfire and told many stories that put us all in awe of the area and his contributions to Parks Canada. One of the very best stays at a hostel for me.

Fun little rustic cabin to stay in! Very close to Maligne Canyon and just a short drive to the lake. The rooms did have heat and a light (which was perfect since it got down to 32 deg F). Rooms are clean! Close to town, but far enough wheat you can see tons of stars. A little creek runs right behind the hostel also.

I didn’t realize it was a wilderness hostel! But it was actually quite refreshing and quiet little spot. I liked the strict bear safety rules. Luckily I had brought my sleeping bag etc for bedding. I would stay again for sure.

I loved this place so much. I was attracted to the fact it is a wilderness hostel, and that there was no internet... it was a wonderful 4 days in the woods, relaxing, really meeting some great people and getting back in touch with the world. It is really designed for people that are driving around Canada, so if you don't have a car prepare to hitchhike from the hostel to get some places (but I did this as a solo female traveller and survived!).

Staff member on site was knowledgeable, and provided me with all I needed. This is an excellent location, right near the entrance to the Maligne Canyon. Some electrical outlets for charging electronics. Very basic, as it is a wilderness hostel. Clean and reasonably priced.

Great location but very rustic facilities (as was advertised). The dorm rooms are quite cramped but the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms were a bit smelly and small.
