Overview

Set downtown, HI Montréal will give you a warm, traditional Canadian welcome. Think free pancakes for breakfast, reserved hockey tickets and pub crawls. We host free daily activities so you can get involved without breaking your budget. Head out for an urban walk with other backpackers, join a bike tour or get involved with a Poutine tasting session (it's our country's speciality!). If that's got your appetite going, make straight for the communal kitchen. Want to avoid the washing up? Join the international crowd for cheap dinners, drinks and a natter in the café-bar instead.

Location

We're in the city centre, under a 10-minute walk from the Museum of the Fine Arts and the Bell Centre – where you can catch an adrenaline-packed hockey game. We're surrounded by trendy bars and upbeat restaurants. You'll be just one block from the Lucien-Allier metro station: jump on a direct train to head straight to Old Town Montréal, where 17th-century streets line the St Lawrence River. From Montréal-Trudeau Airport, take the Express Shuttle 747, and you'll be dropped off steps from the hostel.

Choose a private double or twin, or make new friends in our shared dorms – there are mixed and male- or female-only. All beds have fresh linen, reading lights and power outlets. Every room is en-suite, with free towels. No need to worry about your belongings either – there are lockers for each bunk.

With free Wi-Fi throughout, planning tomorrow's sightseeing is easy. Our friendly staff are also happy to pass on their tips about the city's hidden gems. Absolutely amazing stay. The room and facilities were great, especially considering these uncertain times, and the staff were nothing short of amazing. Their welcoming attention made me feel immediately at home and my only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. Will certainly book again next time I'm in town.

Best stay ever! Everything was squeaky clean, staff was super friendly. Hands down its my best hostel experience ever, NO KIDDING! I ended up having the whole dorm to myself because of the covid situation and honestly I couldn’t be happier about it. Will come back again, 100%!

I was there for less than 12 hours but had a good stay. Great location near downtown and restaurant. I didn’t check out the bar in the hostel but it looked like it had a good vibe. Lots of great amenities that I didn’t end up using. The room was clean comfortable. Would highly recommend.

Great place, perfectly located in downtown Montreal. Room was confortable and secure. Everything clean. Staff is super helpful. Well worth the money payed. Will stay again whenever I'm in the city, and I strongly recommend the place to anyone on a quick visit to Montreal. A shame that, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the bar was closed.

HI Montreal says

I like to think we specialize in helping travellers get the full Montréal experience. To do so, Gab organizes free daily activities to take people off the beaten path: bike ride, urban walks, pub crawls, comedy nights and so on. They are fun and informal ways of seeing the city, plus they are perfect socializing opportunities! We also try to partner up with many local events and places we love as to encourage people to discover the best Montreal has to offer. And finally, our ultimate secret ingredient is our staff! They're great, funny, creative and helpful. We love them and you should too!
We're right downtown, close to pubs, clubs, museums and the crazy shopping street of Ste-Catherine. However, I do recommend that everyone ventures out a bit further to discover what the Plateau, the Mile-End and the Petite-Italie have to offer!
I'd say the hostel is suitable for anyone between 7 and 77, just like these good old board games! However, we tend to have a higher concentration of travellers between 18 and 35 years of age. Generally, these are backpackers, students moving to Montréal, people on working holiday visas or groups of friends from nearby places, such as Toronto or New York, coming to spend the weekend in the city.
