Overview

Looking for a friendly, fun and fantastic hostel? Come and stay at HI NYC Hostel! We're not only set within a spectacular historic castle-like building, but we've also got a huge common room, a billiards room and even a theatre! We're located within easy reach of Times Square and Central Park, so you'll have the city on your doorstep. Cook up a storm in our 36-burner kitchen or catch an improv or comedy show in the theatre – there's something on most nights. We've also got the biggest private outdoor patio in Manhattan.

Location

Nestled in the leafy streets of the Upper West Side, our hostel is a snug, affordable base. There’s a ton of culture up here, thanks to the American Museum of Natural History and the Lincoln Center. Catch a show on Broadway (seven stops on subway line one) or spend a sunny afternoon with the locals in Central Park. When you’re ready to head out, take the subway at 103 St Station (a seven-minute walk away) for the A, B and C lines to Midtown and Tribeca.

Rooms and Dorms

All our rooms are either mixed or single-sex dorms that have been recently renovated, so they're cosy and comfy. They’re heated or air conditioned depending on the season, with free linen and towels on each bed (ideal if you’re travelling light). You can secure your valuables and luggage in our handy lockers – just remember to bring your own lock.

Extras and activities

Our reception's open 24/7, so you can stay out as late as you want in the city that never sleeps. And we love to socialise too! As well as free activities every night, you can join our regular festivities – we'll celebrate everything from July 4th to NYE. First time in New York? We'll take you out on a pub crawl around the city. If you love to dance, we go clubbing on Friday and Saturday nights. If you're here for a while we've got public computers for staying in touch and a laundry service.

The two ladies who were working the front desk need a big raise! They were the most helpful people from making a list of restaurants that I should try to helping me order food while I waited to get a room. The place was super clean and had a great location. I would highly recommend more people check this place out.

Best Hostel we have ever stayed at. Loved the kitchen, Cafe, and laundry facilities. Will stay there in the future. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Only improvements I could offer is that they provide dishtowels for wiping dishes, measuring cups and measuring spoons, and free coffee in kitchens.

I always enjoy my stay at HiNYC. THE staff and the facilities are great - and I love the upper West side location - it is right near a Subway station and a bus stop for downtown. AND, the cafeteria is great and open all day, up to eleven at night. GREAT.

    Fabulous

I had a great experience here! It was my first time in NYC. This hostel was walking distance to Central Park and a 3 minute walk to the subway. Location was GREAT! I loved the curtains on the beds. That’s a huge bonus when I stay in hostels. The rooms were clean. One thing, I would have liked the staff to be more involved with my stay and activities. The best hostels I have stayed at are the ones that staff are welcoming. The staff were awesome, don’t get me wrong but that’s my only criticism.

I was in a big room and I shouldn't have shared it with anyone, it was too difficult to sleep because the room heater sounded too harsh every 15 minutes, that noise was unbearable and it never ended, they need to improve the heating system in the room is bad and noisy, I was only able to stay one night, the service is amazing and the social areas very good

I was supposed to go stay at The Local NYC but decided on HI instead. Like a dummy. I'll never do that again...room was so goddamned cold and being sick the way I was, they could've at least offered to help me move my stuff to a different room, which they couldn't do. So I was stuck in a freezing cold room while sick because I barely had the strength to move even my body. Got not a single goddamned hour of sleep, which left me feeling worse, of course. Looks like I'll never stay there again.

Had to cancel our trip due to covid the hostel refused to refund the cost of the stay. even tho It state that you can Pay on arrival at the venue I payed my deposit then the whole cost of the stay was taken from my account. I think this is discusting as the US & UK government have. Put a ban on international travel. Emailed multiple times only to get a OH well tough luck response!! From The venue
