Painted Turtle, nice and clean place place at the centre of the downtown. Staff here is accommodating and friendly. You can get some tips from them on what to do in Nanaimo and around this beautiful island. I'll visit here again someday soon.

By far the comfiest blankets and pillows of any hostel I have ever stayed in. Super clean and cute building, the rooms are a good size too! You can’t beat the location. The only this I would recommend is adding lamps to the bunks. Fantastic place 👌🏻

Great hostel even in those time of Covid! Great kitchen with free coffee and enough utilities to clean/sanitize and make delicious food! Rooms are splendid and bathrooms are great! Location is definitely making this a 8/10!

    Fabulous

The staff was super friendly and helpful. It’s nice to have a towel supplied. Another review mentioned this: the halls had kind of a weird smell that was little like pee. The room smelled fine, but something about the hall and common area was a little stinky. I hate to say it because the rest of the place is great, but it is there.

Good stay there and friendly staff. The location is perfect. Shared Bathrooms are not so clean unfortunately. Atmosphere is not the best with the covid time but it still ok. I will come back there on a future visit in Nanaimo

    Fabulous

Guy at the counter was pretty annoyed that I checked in at 10:30pm even though their confirmation email stated check-in times between 3:30pm and 11:30pm and made them aware of my arrival... Maybe he had a bad day! Kitchen water was hot only, no cold water to fill up my bottles. Location and rooms were great, but I realized Nanaimo is not that great to visit to begin with! Looks like just a pit stop to get to Tofino / Ucluelet / Pacific Rim!

    Very Good

I felt safe and comfortable during my stay. The manager were helpful and efficient. For the cost, I would have preferred a private ensuite bathroom but the shared bathroom down the hall was clean and available. The kitchen was tidy, spacious and well-appointed. My room was in a quiet corner so my sleep was uninterrupted. Would I stay again? Yes!

***We we’re staying here after Labor Day Long weekend (aka beginning of slow season) AND COVID-19.*** There were no vibez or life in this hostel, but this is understandable given the current pandemic situation. That being said, we had a lovely visit in Nanaimo and the hostel location is great! Everything is very close by: waterfront, old Nanaimo, bars/ restaurants, grocery, parking etc. Our bed was very comfy in the private room, and the hostel genuinely felt clean (which can be rare!!!).

    Good

The hostel itself is good for a short stay. It is located on a very busy street and while the adjacent nightclubs were closed due to the pandemic, the street noise was unbelievable. There are motorcycles and cars without proper mufflers that roar down that street and being so close it amplifies the sound. Bathrooms were ok except for about 3 days a couple of the bathrooms had no toilet paper or paper to wipe hands, which is an issue when the other bathrooms are taken.

Staff and guest were not wearing masks in common areas. The place was dirty estpecially the kitchen. The bedroom smelt like urine. The floor of the bedroom was uneven and the bed rather uncomfortable. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom. No recylcing cans in bedrooms but a sign asking us to recycle... The staff was friendly enough, but I had to wait a good 40 minutes before checking in while the staff was arguing with two other customers. I missed on dinner :(
