HI - Portimao Youth Hostel is one of the most popular among young people who want to experience not only the beautiful beaches of the Algarve, bathed by a calm and warm sea, but also the lively and long lasting Algarves nightlife. To savour the spirit of Portimo, there is nothing better than to sit in the shade of the trees in the gardens Manuel Bvar and forget about time, to watch the fishing boats and to walk through streets and squares that exude the ambience of an active, hard-working town which has succeeded in keeping pace with progress.

Praia da Rocha, which is one of the most popular resorts in southern Portugal, is the reference point for beaches. Located by the mouth of the Arade river, this beach extends over a huge area of sand with some 3 kilometres long irregularly broken up by odd rock formations that the sea has been carving out throughout tens of thousands of years. This is also the right spot for nightlife lovers, with lots of places offering you a sparkling and exciting atmosphere!

A hostel with a swimming pool, close to the large shopping mall. Good breakfast with a terrible coffee. Overall, good value for money.

Good hostel but far away from downtown and not really charismatic, just a simple place to sleep and have a breakfast.

The Hostel itself was okay and close to a mall (but not the beach) Perfect if you just need a place to sleep, but if you plan to spend time in the hostel during the day then I would recommend another hostel. The bathroom lights work on a sensor system which often means that after the first 5 minutes, you are showering in the dark. My light didnt work in my room for the duration of the trip. There was only one plus socket in a dorm containing 4 bunks. Customer service wasnt always great either.

Everything was great. The only complaint - the internet was out for 5 full days and nothing was done to correct the problem. I needed internet, so I was forced to pack my things everyday and walk 20 minutes to a decent wifi point to do my work. It was very inconvenient. The review would have been perfect - as all the other staff were friendly but had no authority - BUT IF the male manager had called the internet company on the first day. It would have been great.

More negatives than positives with this place. The rooms are stifling. There is ONE PLUG per room. Yup. For 4 people! Go figure. Also only ONE washing machine & dryer for the WHOLE BUILDING and it was broken during the entire stay. The kitchen is ill-equipped and dirty. There's also no kettle so you have to microwave your water. In the one microwave. Location is up a hill far from town, and very dodgy to walk alone to after dark. Wifi patchy, but staff helpful where possible. Avoid if you can.
