Overview

Welcome to Portland’s hip and lively Nob Hill district, home to our HI Portland hostel. We're set in an elegant, clapboard building that's about as all-American as you can get, with the buzz of downtown Portland is a brief stroll away. Check in at our 24-hour reception, stow your stuff in the luggage store and head straight to the leafy gardens with their courtyard and BBQ – fill up on burgers and beers. Cook up a meal in the kitchen or grab a brew in our café, then kick back with a movie in our sociable common rooms.

Location

No more puzzling over transport maps – our hostel is just 15 minutes’ walk from the nearest Greyhound station and 16 minutes from the Amtrak station. From the airport, hop on the red line MAX train to Providence Park Station, then walk five blocks north on 18th Avenue to the hostel. The Nob Hill district is an Instagrammer’s dream, with its picture-perfect streets, artisan cafés and affordable craft-brew bars. Stretch your legs with a wilderness hike in the sprawling Forest Park.

HI hostels have not disappointed me so far. The Portland hostel is conveniently located - walking distance to most of the interesting places (Powell, waterfront, voodoo donuts etc.). My stay in the 4-bed dorm was quite comfortable and the bathrooms were very clean.

This was a terrific hostel. Staff were great and the location was amazing. My only issue was that the walls were thin, so I was awakened throughout the night by people going to the bathroom or leaving early in the morning.

No AC = HOT and STUFFY room. A “clip on” desk fan is not enough. Everything else was excellent.

Overall the stay was wonderful and will definitely be staying here again my next stay in Portland. Cafe had great food, staff, and kombucha on tap. They have activities planned throughout the week and plenty of common areas to mingle with fellow travelers. The only gripe I had was when checking in (The staff wasn’t very inviting/talkative) and the condition my bunk was in when checking in (The manager fixed this right away though, and was a pleasure to work with!) Otherwise this was a great trip

I’m hard pressed to recommend this hostel. They refuse to let you check in early. There is three different buildings, and I’m not sure about the others but the one I was in has only little desk fans to keep the room cool. It did not. The window barely opens and the room easily gets 20 degrees warmer than the outside temperature. The beds are uncomfortable. And for breakfast you are only offered a bagel, when I asked if there were other options they told me to buy something if I didn’t like it.
