I have zero complaints about this place. This is my second stay here, first since they added the new building. It’s one of my favorite hostels…safe, clean, nice staff. They have quiet hours starting at 10, which seems early especially on weekends but that didn’t effect me or my stay much. The free breakfast is a bagel and coffee or juice. They have a vegan and gf option. I’ll be back!

This is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in the world! I enjoyed staying here so much that I fell in love with Portland and moved here. If you love great coffee, Sterling coffee is walking distance along with an excellent restaurant called Top Burmese. There are a multitude of other yummy eateries in this area, even the Hostel cafe is pretty darn yummy. They do free bagels before 11a if you are in a budget. If you like privacy like me, the single rooms are stellar, I slept like a log!

I stayed here for the Portland Half Marathon and would highly recommend this to anyone on the fence. The cafe is a great place to grab some food, work on your laptop, or read a book. Clean, friendly staff, and charming.

Relaxed hostel with excellent food from the hostel Cafe and social events. It would be nice for the cafe to be open throughout the week, but a closed hostel Cafe only presents opportunities for trying other restaurants nearby. You basically will always have a restaurant nearby. Would only dock points for things that the hostel can't control. Had a shower and restroom for the room. One roommate missed the toilet consistently and 5/6 of the lockers in the room were mysteriously taken...

Love this place! My only complaint this time was that the cafe wasn’t open on Tuesday or Wednesday and I had no idea why…? So no coffee or breakfast those days…. But other than that, great atmosphere, great staff, great location! Love it :)

Could not recommend this place more! Between the helpful, friendly staff and location, HI Portland does not disappoint. The Hostel Cafe is a great place to grab a coffee or beer with lunch. Walkable to great restaurants, Trader Joe’s and Washington Park/Rose Garden!

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I appreciated that they limited the number of guests to each room for enhanced social distancing and covid safety measures. The addition of a free towel and padlock was also greatly appreciated. The rooms were quite cold, but staff kindly provided more blankets upon request.

I just want to say thank you for accommodating me during my stay in Portland. I absolutely enjoyed being able to stay at a place that has what I need after being out and about all day. I would recommend this hostel to those who seek something affordable, casual, & different. It’s cool to sleep in a place that has so much history, too.
