Property Description

We are a clean, safe, affordable hostel with both private and dorm-style accommodations. Our historic hotel was completely renovated in 2009, retaining an old-world feel while adding modern amenities.

Located in Seattle's International District, we are only steps from light rail, bus tunnels, trains, ferries, bike rentals and more. Getting here, and getting around, is as easy as leaving your plane, getting on light rail, and stepping off thirty minutes later to walk half a block to the hostel. Later, you can travel all over from the same station.

Seattle offers a metropolitan experience in a beautiful, natural setting. It's home to nearly four million people who enjoy beautiful scenery, food, music, history and much more! Ride a ferry, wander through museums, hear live music, go shopping, hike mountain trails, and visit unique neighborhoods. Hungry? There are thousands of restaurants serving delicious food just waiting for you.

Uwajimaya Asian Grocery Store is one block away so guests can bring their own food back to the American Hotel. Or guests may eat at the many inexpensive restaurants in the area, including a bakery, noodle restaurant, creperie, the sandwich shop in our very own building--and much more! View House Rules

Overview

Welcome to HI Seattle at the American Hotel! Our building dates back to 1926 but is very much grounded in the modern day with lightning-fast Wi-Fi throughout. You'll get a free breakfast and free Wi-Fi, plus there are tea and coffee making facilities for a caffeine fix before you head out for a long day of wandering. You can flop down on our soft couches when you get back or cook a meal in our communal kitchen. Once your food's ready, head to our dining area to eat while you play a board game.

Location

We're in Seattle's International District, one of the most connected parts of the city. Within steps of our front door you'll find plenty of ways to get around, including trams, buses, trains, ferries and bike rentals. The International District/Chinatown light rail and bus station is less than 5 minutes' walk away. If you're flying in, it only takes half an hour to reach us from Seattle Tacoma International Airport – just hop on the light rail and walk half a block. We're also a 5-minute walk from King Street train station.

Rooms and Dorms

Book a bunk in one of our male or female-only dorms and get to know your new roommates. If you and your travel buddies want your own space, you can check into one of our private rooms – some of them have en-suite bathrooms. We'll provide the linen, and you can hire a towel if you need to.

Extras and activities

Our housekeeping team keeps the hostel spick and span, and we have a self-service laundry room so your clothes can be kept fresh too. We have late checkout in case you want to sleep in on your departure day and free baggage storage so you can make the most of every minute in Seattle. When you're not out exploring, you can kick back at the hostel – whether that means reading something interesting from our book exchange or playing a game of table football.

I am always delighted with this location. Breakfast is always rewarding with international travelers and US travelers mingling and sharing about there travels and experiences. I was especially impressed by the desk clerks when I arrived on my bicycle off the late walk-on ferry from Victoria. They worked hard to find me a lower bunk. lock my bicycle in the basement and generally settle this old man after a very long day.

I really enjoyed my stay here at HI Seattle. The location is great, just south of downtown, although the neighborhood (near S. Jackson Street) can get a little sketchy at night, mainly due to the prevalent homelessness in Seattle. I loved the fact that they serve breakfast, which included toast, english muffins, bagels, fruit, and oatmeal. I must say the beds are not the most comfortable (I found my bed very hard) but overall I really enjoyed my stay here and did not want to leave!

Ideal location. I arrived at the train station, checked in and was at the Triple Door at 7:15 for a 7:30 show. Nice bunk with lamp and fan. Good breakfast. Ran out to the bakery down the street for take-out duck webs. Easy check-out.

I had an average stay. Wasn't in my room much. Didn't talk with the staff much because I didn't have a need to. Breakfast wasn't the best, but that's okay. The 3E bathroom was a mess most of my stay. Overall, good stay. Planning on staying here again.

    Very Good

This was my first stay in a shared room. One guy snored loudly. Sea gulls hollering loudly right outside window at 3 am was very irritating. Very warm in the room as we had to shut the window with screaming bird. Lots of homeless in this neighborhood and sketchy after dark especially. Felt safe in the hostel though.

    Very Good

Ok hostel. Thin walls. Carpet in private rooms. And wood lockers and furniture. No shelves near bed. No usb outlets. I honestly couldn’t believe there was carpet in the room. One bed had a bedbug cover the other didn’t. The bed wobbled when there was somebody on the top bunk. Small shared bathroom. A few basic fixes would make a huge difference. Wouldn’t stay again.
