Overview

Get ready to make new friends at HI Toronto! We're part of HI Canada, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to build a community of conscious travellers. Mingle with like-minded people from all over the world – and snap selfies with the skyline (to be posted via our free Wi-Fi) – on our rooftop terrace. You can plan out your day over free breakfast in the morning: it's menu-style so you can order whatever takes your fancy. We also host dinners for an extra charge, so you'll have every chance to get to know your fellow travellers.

Location

Our location on Church Street is on the colourful fringes of the downtown centre. There are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop nearby. If you want to check out the big sights like the harbour front or the CN Tower, you can walk or hop on the metro. We're a 4-minute stroll from King subway station and seven minutes from Queen. Coming in from Toronto Pearson International Airport is easy, too – if you're using public transport it only takes 40 minutes.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got shared dorms (male-only, female-only and mixed) and private rooms, so you can pick a space to suit your travel style. All of our rooms come with free sheets and towels, and we make the beds for you every day for a little extra luxury. If you head off on a night out on trendy King or Queen West, keep your stuff safe in our in-room electronic safes and return at any time – reception's open 24 hours.

Extras and activities

We host lots of free city events and tours to make sure your trip's packed full of fun! Join us for cosy board game and trivia nights in, or join one of our walking tours or visits to the beach. Plus every night you'll get free entry to our on-site bar, the Cavern Bar, for drinks and live music.

The 7 categories above I'll easily give a 5 rating. However, I suggest the mattress in 404-B should be replaced. Moreover, HI breakfast may do well to consider a breakfast with more breath which includes guests that are vegan.

24 hour reception, free tasty breakfast. Only complaint is how the bathroom in the room is broken into 3 sections, each very tiny. I used the common bathrooms instead which provided some more space. Great staff and location, would stay again!

    Fabulous

The best part about the hostel is the location - I got there from the airport and onto a train without issues. The breakfast is pretty decent for being free. Communal spaces are clean and comfortable. Safe provided in my 4-female dorm. The Niagara Falls tour was arranged easily. But the sightseeing bus is NOT part of the HI membership, which is annoying bc it's written in chalk and I was tempted to erase it myself. And I didn't like the bathrooms - they're gross and need a renovation.

Stayed in a private room for last night of my trip. Felt a little overpriced (but private hostel rooms generally are), though it seemed slightly in need of some touch ups. Security and location were decent though. And overall was fine for what I needed.

Needs more privacy regarding bed situation, should install curtains around bunks. Improvements to toilet needed too. Decent hostel all in all, good location and free breakfast is a bonus

The toilets and showers we're not clean during our stay. In addition the parking that was supposed to cost 13$ according to the staff ended up costing 28$.

This hostel would have been fine, but I had a major problem with the age of the other guests. I stayed in a dorm room, and while most hostels have an age limit on individuals that can stay in the dorm rooms, this hostel does not. My dorm room had at least two individuals who were over the age of 70. While using the common bathroom facilities I saw multiple individuals over 45. I found this super odd and wouldn't stay here again because of the weird dynamic.
