Property Description

Are you looking for an interesting stay in Amsterdam? The Hans Brinker Hostel is your place to go. We are famous for what we don’t offer, instead for what we do. We have no bellboys, no swimming pool, no sauna, no minibars, no room service, no televisions, no airco. No luxury. So why would you come to us? Because we offer a great atmosphere, cheap beds, basic accommodation, free breakfast and lots of fun in the centre of Amsterdam!

You can find us at the Kerkstraat, a cozy street in Amsterdam just around the corner of the lively Leidseplein (the hotspot of Amsterdam’s nightlife). We’re also located at a five-minute walk from the Museumplein (where many musea are situated) and the Vondelpark (best place to relax in summer). You can find many bars, restaurants and clubs around our hostel, so you’ll never have to walk far or catch a taxi!

But you don’t need to get out of the Hans Brinker Hostel to have a good time. We have a big, funky-designed bar with a happy hour from 5-6pm and a restaurant that serves fresh but cheap meals (around €6,-). In both areas you can use our free Wifi. After spending a fun evening at our bar, you can go downstairs to our underground club, which stays open till 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning.

About the rooms: we have private rooms as well as dorms. The beds in the dorms differ from 4 up to 8 beds in one room. Our rooms are basic but provide the necessary. There are lockers for each person to stuff your personal belongings; for valuables we rent safes downstairs. Each bedroom has its own bathroom including toilet and shower. The quality of the showers are questionable, but they do work.

A stay with us includes free breakfast, a (small) towel, linen and free wifi. There are smoking areas inside and outside the hostel; smoking isn’t allowed in the rooms. Our reception is open 24hours a day.

To make the most out of your stay in Amsterdam, we provide tickets for many activities & attractions, like the Heineken Experience, a free walking tour, boat tours and a pub crawl. We also provide practical tickets: you can get your public transport tickets with us and hop right on a tram. Tram stops are at three-minute walking distance from the hostel and the trams lead you straight to the Central Station. Coming from the Central Station take tram line 2, 11 or 12 to the hostel; hop off after approximately 10 minutes, at tram stop Keizersgracht.

In short: we’re a good money-for-value hostel. If you want to have a fun time in Amsterdam and only use your bed to have a (short) night sleep and meet many people, this is the place for you! If you want to sleep a lot, maybe not so much.

Please read our Things To Note below before booking. For dorms, there's a maximum age of 35. Children under 15 are not allowed. For New Year's we have a different policy.

Check-in time during week days: 1 pm.
Check-in time during weekends: 2 pm.

Taxes not included - city tax 7.00 % per person per night. City Tax is to be paid upon check-in.
From 01/01/ 2020: 7% of the net overnight rate per night plus €3,00 per person per night and should be paid upon arrival. View House Rules

Overview

Introducing the hostel with the biggest personality in Amsterdam (probably): the Hans Brinker. We’re centrally located, super social and budget-friendly. Speaking of which, we’re all about the freebies – breakfast is free, as are linen and towels. Make the most of our restaurant, where big portions only cost 6 euros. Get chatting to travellers from other countries in the common room or over a happy hour beer in our ultra-cool bar. Keep the party going at our underground club; we’re open until 3 or 4am. We’re also just 7 minutes from Leidseplein, with its world-class nightclubs and bars.

Location

You’ll find us on Kerkstraat in the sophisticated Grachtengordel neighbourhood, well known for its photogenic canals. Walk 9 minutes to find the Museumplein area, which is full of – you guessed it – museums, such as the arts and history Rijksmuseum. The closest tram stop is Keizersgracht, a 3-minute walk from the hostel, but most places are walkable (or easy to cycle). It only takes 30 minutes to get here from Schiphol airport – jump off the metro at Vijzelgracht and walk 8 minutes to find us.

Rooms and Dorms

Amsterdam might be too much fun to spend much time sleeping, but our rooms are perfect for collapsing in when it's finally time to hit the sack. Choose between twin private rooms (perfect for spreading out your stuff), or mixed or female-only dorms (if you fancy meeting travel buddies). All have bathrooms with toilets and showers. There are lockers for your stuff – but if you have valuables, you can leave them in our reception safe.

Extras and activities

Need some recommendations? Just ask the friendly staff at our 24-hour reception (and while you’re at it, grab the code for the free Wi-Fi). On your way out go via reception to get tickets for your free walking tour or Heineken experience. Oh and grab a free coffee before you go!

A hostel to remember and if you are looking of more of a party, look no further. Granted the place was not bouncing off the walls, but the hostel had a young crowd, a great happy hour, and was the best bang for your buck I have stayed in. The rooms were small and live-able, but we did not stay there to sleep in the rooms to say the least. Overall, great location, young, fun, and would stay there again.

Good hostel with a very social bar, I would definitely stay again, just a few things, no laundry service which is annoying, also I was put in a room all by myself for 4 days really felt quite lonely and isolated, still great hostel with great food at the bar

The location of the hostel is great. Very clean and the staff is very friendly. The beds were comfy and were made every day. The washrooms were a bit cramped up but overall good value for money. Due to the current pandemic situation, the atmosphere was a bit dull. But rest assured, it is a great place to stay.

+Very convenient location +Staff were helpful in answering questions and giving suggestions on what to do in the city -No fridge available for guests. This would be very nice to have as we had edible gifts that needed to stay cooled. -Very noisy at night with people in the hallways. Room seemed to get all the noise from outside. +Breakfast was a great value and made our stay much more enjoyable

Nice workers, but room/bathroom were dirty and the WiFi did not work on my floor. On the bright side, they do provide a towel. Good place if you need a cheaper option to lay your head at night near the center

Mu experience is based on a weekebd visit, so maybe during the weekdays the ambient is different. The place hosts a lot of people, therefore the ambien is totally impersonal and withoit any kind of decoration. The corridors, entrance or the bar are noisy. The only common area in which you can chill or eat is a beer bar with music and wood tables and benches (not cosy warm or quiet). The rooms are simple, without lamps for reading, and a bathroom that stinked a bit of moist and humidity.

Would not recommend, horrible case of bed bugs. Rooms are very basic not even a ladder to climb up to the second bunk or any railings, dangerous really. We got bitten by bed bugs, it was getting worse every night when we told the staff they didn't seem worried. They moved us next door but continue to rent the beds we got bitten in.They refused to give us a refund for the nights we had to stay in the infested beds telling us we had to speak to the manager who wasn't available untill after we left
